We watched the classic Disney movie Tangled last night with the kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it. It's just crazy how far Disney has fallen with their animated movies. Great job firing Lassiter Disney. You couldn't pay me to watch their movies now.
Agreed, the rot runs deep. Board member changes, CEO changes, or even Middle management changes will not fix the problem there. They need to slide even deeper into the financial abyss before massive layoffs ensues, so they can finally clean out the mouse house and get fresh qualified talent once again!

Their is no way anybody with a rational thought in their head could possibly believe that having this DEI mandate would make for a better more entertaining product. Thats why it has to come down to agenda above all. It's a cult, plan and simple. So frustrating.
DEI mandates are boring and sad!😠 When you make movies just to be socially conscious first, and entertaining second, and you do not make your characters or artistic environments stand out in a unique way, you have no passion or interest for making movies. To me, it becomes a clear sign of either burnout or the fatigue of being assigned to make corporate products and soulless movies you do not actually want to make. Movies that _were_ made just to make money, but are not even successful at doing that because they would rather chase pointless ESG scores that _might_ bail them out.
Trying to change people's opinions before the zeitgeist changes it for them is a useless endeavor. All the same I'll get it off my chest. This kind of merit based hiring results in a system that works and is profitable, but favours Whites and Asians for basic biological reasons I can't say out loud without being censored. The more desegregated and flat the playing field is, the worse the disparity gets. The longer it goes on, the worse the disparity because of generational wealth and connections. You can either have a civilization or make all groups outcomes the same, but not both.
My question with this is how long will it take before the white male feminists finally realize they went wrong with where they decided to pledge allegiance...will they starve to death due to being out of work before they change sides or will they literally let it be the end of them? Tribalism is a very normal and biological thing. These lefties are just whackadoodles that drank the kool-aid and hopefully they figure out they picked the wrong side before they completely doom themselves.
@@tednolan frozen 2 was cowardice. Frozen 2 should have been a movie about the rest of Europe waging war to kill the witches which was the obvious next plot point. Which is why Arendele was the bad guys because they could not discuss any other country in context because of cowardice.
It's a legacy. CalArts is where many of the most beloved animated film directors and animators graduated from... a few decades ago. Now as I understand it you go to CalArrs because of the nepotism. People from CalArts prioritize graduates also from CalArts. If you aren't from CalArts, good luck getting a foot in the door of a larger company.
The real problem is that she's only one of many in the management structure like that. As we've learned over the last few years, it's really Iger as a root problem and especially when he started treating the entire company as his personal play thing. She was hired to do exactly what they wanted her to do. Problem is that what they wanted to do was entirely incompetent and in every sense a fiscal as well as reputation death sentence. They did pick the right tool for the job though. She has pushed exactly the values Iger and cronies wanted of her just like she wanted. A match made in Hell as it were.
The shocker was grandparents (yes, GRANDPARENTS) who took their grandkids to see a movie they hoped to sleep through who suddenly were jolted awake by Disney groomers on full display. After Lightyear, and all the hints about Frozen, and the outing of the "not so secret aganda," it is little surprise that you can't even look at Pooh's Piglet anymore without suspecting some subversive gay subtext.
Sterling Holloway (voice of Pooh) was gay (adopted his lover which was the practice at the time to allow inheritance). John Fiedler (voice of Piglet) was also never married, but by all writings, was just dedicated to acting until his death by cancer.
It would take a heart of stone not to laugh....Still, as a kid who grew up on Disney films, it also makes me cry. Now those older films (the 90's and before) look all the better by comparison.
If you've ever dealt with a three year old, you've no doubt experienced the phenomenon where they will demand to listen to the same song or watch the same video of read the same book like twelve times in a row, every single day. So it might not be her fault (but then again, you shouldn't let a toddler have that much screen time)
If you go to Disney's TH-cam page, and watch some of their videos (an iron stomach is recommended), there was one interview with a very stunning, very brave woman of colour who literally used "child-free" as a descriptor for herself. Instead of talking about something she had, or earned, she focused in on something she AVOIDED. If that isn't the sign of being a judgmental narcissist, I don't know what is. But there is something to be said about a company that A: Glorifies people who treat children like alcoholism/cancer, by proudly stating they're "child-free", like having children is some kind of disease... and B: Catering to and bolstering anti-family activists who are, effectively, the exact OPPOSITE of your core demographic. Disney deserves at least two more decades of financial strife, just so that they can lay off more of these creeps, the same way a snake sheds dead skin.
I would never advertise it - but I don't want to bring kids into this fucked up world. Certainly not participating in miscegenation, since I abandoned western women after finding time and again they are anti man. My reason is likely different than this cow, but still. No kids for me tyvm.
Encanto being a holdover makes sense. I thought that was pretty good, and it fit what they said they wanted to see more of. Similar to Moana and others it gave a different cultures view as opposed to cramming diversity into anything seen as "too white and too male".
I actually think this "honor" goes to Wish. Disney "celebrated" its 100th anniversary with a film that completely abandons everything that made them last that long. Quality 2D animation, innovative storytelling, beloved characters, Broadway-level music, and upholding moral values such as responsibility, or good conquering evil. Wish was a mockery of all of that, and more.
Nah...Wish was just the last bullet of all the bulletstorm that Disney technically started in 2019, when the prog thing started to be pretty evident. But it was 2022 with things like Strange Worlds and the Florida battle where ppl, even people who was never on this Culture War said "ENOUGH"a
@@andresanguianozuniga6798 True, but nobody was interested in Strange World anyway, not even Disney. Folks had much higher expectations of Wish. They hoped Disney would come back for its 100th anniversary, but played more like a mockery of those 100 years.
@@365ral Yeah... specially with Wish. That film it's pure Misery. Ironically it's about a failed Utopia destroyed more quickly for the narcissism of young ppl.
@@365ral Now, about Strange World...they dropped the Ball...hard. It had the potential of being a solid Sci-Fi movie...and they fucced up. And the Quality didn't have somemthing to do about Ethan being Black and gay.
@@andresanguianozuniga6798 Wish also went against many values that Walt Disney upheld: responsibility, delayed gratification, selflessness, and, most of all, being anti-Communist.
Along with all of the other hacks and failures including Iger, the way I see it, as long as he in charge or has any influence over the company, nothing will change, what Disney needs is a CEO who isn't scared of a small group of people on twitter/X, one who can make the tough decisions and not use language like "Oh, they are just moving on!!" instead they say said person is fired and list the reasons for their firing!!
I don't think she needs to be fired...but she needs to get off the DAS boss job NOa, because i feel calling her "The KK of Disney Animation" its kinds extreme. Why? Easy....Jeniffer kinda has talent, just tried to play the activist game and failed miserably...Kathleen Kennedy looks to being working not only just by activism, but by actual RESSENTMENT to StarWars, George Lucas and Luke Skywalker...and probably Steven Speilberg, and probably Indiana Jones. Jeniffer works as a writter and creative, KK its just a prog contamination reactor without talent.
The problem was never Lee... it was the person who hired and enabled her. Since Bob Iger has endorsed this behaviour in SO many people, clearly this goes all the way to the top. As an additional complication, however, I hear that political hiring initiatives and a takeover of HR means it's NOT just the top, but literally every level of the company in every department. The only way you're going to 'cure' Disney is to fire everyone everywhere. Better to just let it all burn to the ground.
2022 ? I didn't even know this movie existed until now ! And I've seen every Lasseter ever made. This movie bombed so hard it escaped mainstream consciousness. That has to be some kind of record.
They were so hyper focused on meeting a diversity quota that they brought in activists who had no intention or learning animation or storytelling, and the end result created Strange World and their first major flop in a long time.
I have seen some amazing advancements in animation in my lifetime, and suddenly, I everything I watched took a nosedive in animation and cgi quality. Gotta be less experienced animators.
They've been doing this in ALL the colleges in the United States, since at least the early 90s. And it was VERY OBVIOUS!! Nobody said or did ANYTHING about it.
The change between Wreck it Ralph and the sequel, the Incredibles and the sequel and cars and cars 3 really made it clear they wanted to take everything they made for boys and destroy it
I wish that were true but broadway has been selling gay for years. The problem comes from when they try to sell gay to a non-gay audience. The numbers and costs cause a difference in metrics for success due to costs. Better to say that gay will never have a mass appeal.
@@elskeletor3566no, dumbass, it's statistics. What percentage of the population is gay ? Unless it's more than 50% they won't bring more money than heteros. And if there was this many gays, we wouldn't be 8 billion on this planet. You sound stupid enough you could work at Disney.
Paranorman had an openly gay character. It was subtle, hilarious, and the movie was a big hit. (And stuff for adults like The Birdcage, Will & Grace and To Wong Foo were also successful.) Strange World could have worked with a gay lead, but what made it different from Paranorman is that they didn't focus on a fun adventure, they preached and whined about social issues instead.
Wreckit Ralph 2 was the end for me. I believed the first was a masterpiece of an arc that had Ralph find happiness in being who he was. Everyone told him if he went down his path he would literally destroy the lives of everyone around him. In the end he found happiness in his place and grew to see who he was and the people that would care for him. In 2, the story completely flip-flops. His best friend decides her place isn't good enough and HE is the growing monster for not excepting it. I assume the same rules still apply, but they magically don't. Back then I didn't know what woke was, but like other things, you just know it when you see it.
I was wondering if she would appear. I’d like to see Dreamfinder/Mayor of Imaginationland confront Jennifer Lee in South Park if they make another special. Especially since Disney lacks imagination these days with sequels. Matt Stone and Trey Parker need to make “Imaginationland The Sequel Trilogy The Movie The Industry Strikes Back!” They could have a field day with all the sequel fatigue joke material. Imaginationland would also actually work as a sequel.
I think that up till now Jennifer Lee has mostly escaped scrutiny because 1) She has Frozen to her credit, which people loved and was a major hit; 2) Unlike Kennedy, she isn't out in the open so she hasn't given people reason to notice her.
Imagine thinking a university was the only way to learn animation. Nobody cares about your degree. Same as in video games. Bring them a quality demo of something you made and they'll be more impressed than your toilet paper degree.
Viacom is pretty woke too. The Loud House has numerous gay couples and the creators of Avatar are as woke you can get. One of them said people who didn’t like the out of no were gay couple in the sequel series to Avatar were wearing and I quote” Hetero lenses”
The creators Of Avatar are economically illiterate millenials who refuse to understand that toys and merchandising in general is what keeps an IP relevant even for decades.
Strange world was banned at my kids school…that’s how gross parents thought it was for their children. Disney has fallen so much and is an embarrassment 🤢🤮
I know the black cauldron(I really enjoyed that movie.) almost ended disney. But, it's far better than strange world and wish. The black cauldron(it's scary like puss in boots the last wish.) deserves a re-release in theaters.
The blanket idea that "no villain bad" is flawed. I think that concept needs a bit more of a nuanced discussion. Some of my favorite classic movies don't have a villain and the vast majority of movies over the past 4 decades have had mediocre villains and it's boring now. Disney is doing the no villain idea poorly but it certainly does not have to be that way.
Strange is a synonym of queer. Make no mistake. This movie was supposed to be queer world. They knew they couldn’t get away with that so called it strange world.
@@confusedzentradi Or maybe it's just not as clear a synonym as you think, at least not in this context. Or are we supposed to believe that "Doctor Strange" was originally created as some kind secret icon for alternate sexualities?
@@SpaceJawa No, I’m pretty sure the solution is for you to read more. Try a thesaurus. As for your comment about Doctor Strange, context matters. For example the content in both movies shows different meanings for strange. Nice try though. I’ll give a C for effort.
I had forgotten this was a thing, or if i ever knew it existed. I don't think I saw ads or anything about it. I think I was confusing it with the movie about two kids in a fantasy unvierse that want their father back or something like that.
I found the information you gave in the first five minutes interesting, but since these are some bold claims, are there any reliable sources for this? I mean outside of other TH-cam videos?
There's no issue with diversity. There's issue with boring movies. I've seen the movie multiple times (beeing a father and all) and I still barely remember a thing from it. Same goes for Raya. Worse, I'm pretty sure my daughter forgot the movie exists as well. The only recent movie from Disney that I really, really liked was Encanto. I can watch Encanto forever.
I used to teach a class of preschoolers. They were mostly boys with a couple of girls and ALL of them love Frozen and Moana. But when I showed them Raya...barely anyone was interested even with all the action. These kids are too young to know about Western wokeness but Disney messed up something in Raya.
As a Southeast Asian I was apprehensive when they announced Raya for the first time, they said in their press releases here it was a story inspired by Southeast Asia, unfortunately there is nothing in the movie that says Southeast Asian. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here were disappointed with Raya because it is not a story from any country in Southeast Asia, it is their own DEI fever dream story and used all the material trappings of the region and used it like a skin suit, no different from Ed Gein (yes, I know it's morbid). There is a very long TH-cam video from a group of American born Southeast Asians, the funny thing is they did not discuss the story, they only discussed the food, the clothes and the architecture, etc. that was used in the movie. I haven't seen a Disney animated movie for quite some time, I have no intention to give them my hard earned money until they straighten up and do what is right to their fans. Don't get me wrong I love Disney, but they have strayed way too far. It's drastic but, they need to lose everything in order for them to learn to make their way back into the good graces of parents and audience everywhere.
Choices were deliberately taken, opportunities to head off the problem were either cowardly avoided or put off so someone else could ruin their career by taking the flak. The combination of hubris and ineptitude deserve this outcome.

Just 'allies' who are happy to destroy them at the slightest ideological variation to gain social credit points and put off their own denunciation.
Most of senior animators went away to work in other companies less woke.

Nobody I know who worked with Lassiter had a bad thing to say about him. His problem was that he wanted quality work instead of participation trophy level garbage. Disney got "rid of the problem" and are reaping the rewards of what they've sown, one good enough for government work DOA film at a time.
That and they claim he hugged ppl...that made some kinda uncomfortable.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”

And here is disney today....
The glaring irony is that Walt Disney hated communism.

The cash from Volodomir Zelenski is running out.
Here's NYC, in a money crunch, the DEI city. Why in the world would Disney adopt the very same philosophy as the Soviet Union? How did that work out.
That quote is way too smart to have come out of Thatcher. I suspect it's older than that.
Their is no way anybody with a rational thought in their head could possibly believe that having this DEI mandate would make for a better more entertaining product. Thats why it has to come down to agenda above all. It's a cult, plan and simple. So frustrating.
*There (not "Their") is no way...
Agree.
Don't let it frustrate you - just don't give companies money that push this stuff and you'll know you're doing your part.
Disney only exists to give those people a platform from which to push their agenda.
"positive" discrimination is destroying everything. Put resumes in a pile (purge age and gender), make hiring based on what will be left on the files…
That sounds dangerously close to hiring on merit…
No... you are going to have to proactively screen out the woke for a while... they destroy anything they touch.
@@jadenkorr32it will not work. Because it ignores what is actually going on.

The sewerage system that gave the world "bean mouth"
@@insertnamehere5809 I noticed Pixar picked up that style as well. Turning red and Luca had bean mouths
I have a weird relative who shows her three year old son “strange world” almost daily. She’s weird and a loser.

They are not a family company any more. I live in a pretty conservative area and Disney's not being watched
I doubt Disney still being around after another couple decades of this level of financial strife.
Disney is supposed to be family-centered. Even Walt said that when he founded it!😢🙄

Encanto being a holdover makes sense. I thought that was pretty good, and it fit what they said they wanted to see more of. Similar to Moana and others it gave a different cultures view as opposed to cramming diversity into anything seen as "too white and too male".

This movie gave the immortals a run for it's money. And that movie's main theme was DEI.

Jennifer lee needs to be fired asap
Agreed. I will definitely be watching for her name on products and if it's there I won't be paying for them.

Strange World focused way too much on being political correct and morally acceptable than *FUN*.

Gay don’t pay. Never has , never will.
The Heterophobia is appalling
(And stuff for adults like The Birdcage, Will & Grace and To Wong Foo were also successful.) I am still wondering how Disney can make so many movies despite losing billions of money
The sad thing is that Strange World really would have been a solid sci-fi animated movie if it wasn't for all the stupid crap in the movie had in it.
100% except the entire concept of the film from beginning to end was a propaganda piece.
No, the entire film from its conception was nothing but propaganda.
There is another movie like that, but way better, it’s called Treasure Planet.
Not really, even if it nixed the political messaging it’s still bland for a sci-fi adventure movie and not terribly well written.
Did people think of Jennifer Lee, too or only Kathleen Kennedy when the now legendary South Park episode dropped?
I was wondering if she would appear. I’d like to see Dreamfinder/Mayor of Imaginationland confront Jennifer Lee in South Park if they make another special. Especially since Disney lacks imagination these days with sequels.
