A 3 cylinder engine is unbalanced. In fact the one in the Mirage is more balanced than most. This seems normal to me (I have a Mirage too. The engine will give you no problems for ages when in normal use and maintained by the book.
Its a 3 cylinder! its natural to shake like that. It doesn't have an even piston layout. Every 3 cylinder shake a little more than 4 cylinders. Nothing is wrong with it.

@@ned5485 all 3 cylinder engines vibrate more than 4 up cylinder since they has less balance inherited from its design. I as owner of several 3 cylinder engines for decades can assure that. But you rapidly adopt to their characteristics, specially at the gas pump...there's lot of information on this, just look and search around. No pun intended.
I've got a 2017 Mitsubishi mirage, bought it new now have 42k miles on it , love it. I commute almost 100miles a day for work in the highway ac auto transmission cvt. I love my mirage.
Once again, they vibrate "badly" due to it being a 3 cylinder. "Natually Unbalanced". This motor will run for a long time. Mitsubishi has been making 3 cylinders for a long time.
joe b Very true. Mitsubishi makes great 3 cylinder engines and has been for a long time. I just traded my 2015 Mirage ES Hatchback with Navigation on a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE Loaded and love it.

Mazda Mirage?? Mitsubishi. I had an 87 Sprint Turbo, Suzuki 3 cylinder. I drove it 1993 with 107k- 2010 with 193k when I sold it. Great car. The 3 did shake. It is a 3 Cylinder!!
I have a 2015 Mirage ES and so does my co worker. This is normal and every Mirage you look at will do this. It is a 3 cylinder and they are naturally unbalanced and the 2014 models vibrated even worse and in 2015 they changed the motor mounts to absorb more vibration. These are not overly refined vehicles and anyone will tell you that but after a year of ownership and 12,000 miles later I love mine and have not had a single issue. You do feel more vibration from these cars then most but after you have it a while you will really enjoy its quirks.
Kevin McKenzie ....that is definately what I came up with . they are so poorly assembled at the factory ....the quality control is less than the standard ...what i mean ...the actual gap from the hood,to the fender,to the door,and the trunk all have different millimeter readings. . most noticeable was the front hood area...unsatisfactory ....i can see the motor mount and where they actually allowed more play to be allowed and the unbalance motor is about right ....i actually did start the other identical model there ....and there was a very noticeable difference ...me being the professional ..I should have caught that ...however i did drive the 2015 model and did notice it also along with lots of road noise from poor insulated doors/Tire noise ...

Yea when I seen my co workers when she first got her 2015 Mirage ES 2 years ago (she got it November 2014 as a 2015 midel) I was like wow that shakes a lot then I read up and it basically boils down to refinement and saving money. Also any we looked at on the lot done the same thing. Plus as you and I said 3 Cylinder Engines are naturally unbalanced. Hey I just say it adds character. I got mine in July 2015 and 12,000 miles and 16 months later not a single issue and my gas milage is even better now. I did drive a 2017 like yours and they did a lot of tweaks to make it way more refined than mine I can tell ya that lol. For 2017 they revised the CVT, Engine got 4 more horsepower and new balancing cam shaft, upgraded seat material, upgraded interior trim, new audio units, bigger brakes front and rear, revised suspension, LED Tail Lights, and more!!! But I can assure you once you get used to your Mirage you will love it. They are great on gas, durable, fun to drive, feature packed and have been out since 2012 in this style in other countries and have proven to be very reliable! Have you joined the Mirage Forum yet?
You are absolutely right, these cars have their "quirks", (in a good way),, Seems after driving these for awhile, the Car "forces" you NOT to push the Laws of Physics.. More than once trying to Make that "Martinsville Raceway turn* , you are bout up on TWO wheels testing your driving skills..I'm Not quite sure IF WE have reached a level of those Prius Folks though, YET,,, ...Pedal to the Metal, 100 yards, in Da City, 0----> 30mph in about 15 seconds.. Enough time to miss the light in front of you, huge gap in race cars, While the "accordion effect",, behind you, Vehicles in rush hour are, Behind you as Folks are, Waving arms & nice "gestures"... XD XD All in All,, fun car to drive.. GREAT Gas mileage..Just don't expect to go anywhere "FAST"...
i have a 2015 with 113,000 miles i have had it since it had 11 miles on it in 2015. Run Denso plugs, also use royal purple 0w20 it still shakes but no where near like it did when i first got it. I am also using a free flow air filter as well. it runs quite well. P.S. Watch out for pot-holes in this car
I got mine with 30k on it, it now has 113k on it, its always done that. its sorta like a motorcycle. when there are less cylinders in an engine the mirage having only 3, there is less balance in it so its not as smooth as an engine that has more. plus since its an odd number of cylinders its ALOT harder to smooth out the shaking caused by the ignition of the fuel within. Theres nothing wrong with it, its just how it operates. My 2018 mirage has never had any issues, gone up and down Colorado mountains, up and down the state of Texas, been thru ice, rain, and drought. and even mud and sand. never had any issues what so ever. its all still stock too.

My Mirage 2016 does the same, same shaking LOL, it's normal, but the bad thing about this is what if you have any failure in the coils or something, you can't detect them easily because the engine shakes a lot already when is brand new.
@@believe88 I think that because its a 3 cylinder it's a little unbalanced and spinning in one direction will lean the engine that way. Shifting into reverse will spin it the other way and the centrifugal force will throw it in the other direction. It's normal, the engine mounts are designed to move a bit to accommodate this.
@@believe88 if you're getting a small jerk when shifting it's because your car is shifted a little bit on its wheels, the harder you pull up the parking break when parking the less it will do that kathunk thing when shifting. The parking break keeps the wheels and connecting bits from shifting in any direction when you stop, otherwise that little bit of play you get back and forth in park will make it jerk when shifting gears.

Well look who has never had a Metro, Justy, Charade or Triumph motorcycle. It's a three cylinder. They do that. You can't even feel it from inside the car.
I have the same problem. Mine is 2019. The guys at the service checked the plugs and nozzles but all were OK. No need to think about shaking any more. Take it easy. It is the best car in fuel efficiency I used normal petrol with 90 octane before but now I use 95 octane and authentic oil to reduce the shaking and engine sound.

It's normal. Most 3 cyl are like that. I believe Mitsubishi did nothing to balance it out. The Ford 1.0L 3 cyl less shaky. Ford designed the engine structure unbalanced to balance out the shake. Mitsubishi should do that.
I worked in Mitsubishi motors manufacturing plant. This is just normal on the brand new engines of mitsubishi cars. Aside from engine noise there is no problem with your engine bro.
@@bgdtlbrs , actually it’s a valve lifter. As a former Mitsubishi employee back home in the Philippines, those brand new engines being fitted to the brand new cars sounds all the same. Ticking sounds that I also asked before what was that sound ? As a employee, I went to the assembly line & they said to me, “ it’s a brand new engines & it’s normal to Mitsubishi engines sounds.,” my Mitsubishi L200 was the same too, so I don’t bother at all. Valve lifters sound.

3cyl and no balancer shaft does that to an engine. There's a reason why 4cyl even in small 1.2L displacements were the norm until recently when EPA & CAFE began demanding almost hybrid-like demands on manufacturers. If you wanted a smooth running engine, buy a Lexus or Mercedes with a V6.
This is completely normal... i have a mirage with 73,000 miles it shakes the same. That is because its normal for a 3 cylinder to shake that way, they are unbalanced engines. Its a reason for mitsubishi to install those big motor mounts that dampen the vibrations.. this car is very reliable..

It’s a 3 cylinder. They are inherently imbalanced. It’s normal. They are cheap cars. Very efficient but many manufacturers won’t use 3 cylinders because of nhv concerns such as this. Hard to cancel it.

it's normal for a 3 cylinder engine unless you have the geely or volvo. i have mine for 9 years. a reliable day to day car if my aim is just to go from point A to B. A very fuel efficient car that can still get a 3.5 Km/100L on the highway. I use only my Diesel SUV if I'm with the family.
the ford fiesta ecoboost 3 cylinder engine runs smoothly due to advanced motor mounts, optimized crankshaft geometry, eccentric front pulley and flywheel designed to cancel out first order vibrations.
Since you asked what we thought...I think you should realize it's a 3 cylinder and it's what they do. Mine has 75,000 miles on it and all the techs that go to change the oil in the winter when I don't feel like freezing to death, tell me the cars in bad shape. LOL It's how it's always been and the engine noises are LOUD! As is, it's turned out to be one of the most trouble free cars I've ever owned...I even figured out how to flush the CVT transmission, that the dealers and tranny shops say can't be done...this car will last my life time I'm sure

Totally normal. The whole engine shifts like an inch forward when you shift into reverse too

That is 100% normal. My 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage shakes about the same, if not more than yours.

Mine has a rough idle. It vibrates my rear view mirror and the knobs on my sons carseat. I can feel it in the steering wheel as well.

@Jody's Spicy Takes yea. My wife had a mirage. Personally I found it a bit annoying but eh. Definitely wouldn’t not buy a car because of it. Clearly I bought it with her anyways. Although idk if the new ones or the sedans are better. But some people really don’t like the vibration.

it's normal for a 3 cylinder engine unless you have the geely or volvo. i have mine for 9 years. a reliable day to day car if my aim is just to go from point A to B. A very fuel efficient car that can still get a 3.5 Km/100L on the highway. I use only my Diesel SUV if I'm with the family.

Since you asked what we thought...I think you should realize it's a 3 cylinder and it's what they do.
Mine has 75,000 miles on it and all the techs that go to change the oil in the winter when I don't feel like freezing to death, tell me the cars in bad shape. LOL
It's how it's always been and the engine noises are LOUD!
As is, it's turned out to be one of the most trouble free cars I've ever owned...I even figured out how to flush the CVT transmission, that the dealers and tranny shops say can't be done...this car will last my life time I'm sure
