Mattel needs to just make these dolls and let everyone buy them. It is so frustrating that you can't get the dolls you want at the retail price. It makes you wonder if Mattel is the scalpers themselves to force a higher price.
I bought a membership just to get the jump on new dolls coming out and YES they can sell out when selling to members only... whatever is left is open to the public after the member's sale. However, Mattel typically says one doll per customer but that's not always been the case. Maybe get a couple friends to buy the doll, too... you can always sell an extra doll and then you can choose the better face... cuz, even with several people shopping the same doll none of you may end up scoring a doll. Good luck!!
I have a club 59 membership, and my experience is that it is worthwhile if you want access to more limited dolls, however the shipping is SUPER slow regardless of membership or not :(((
I'm hoping her doll popularity falls in line with Tina Turner or Mariah Carey, where both dolls at some point were easy to find for the retail price, Tina after she first dropped and Mariah after the hype died down.

From personal experience, Amazon might send you your collector doll in a SHIPPING ENVELOPE or throw your doll in a box that’s too big with no bubble wrap! I just got a Rainbow High Sunny Madison Winter Break doll that I paid $39.99 for and the shipping box was too big. Sunny’s package was ripped and dented on the front and the sides, so it’s not even good to display! Target & Walmart often use ill-fitting boxes when they ship products too! When I buy collector dolls from MGA (or once in a blue moon, Mattel), the dolls at least come protected in individual shipper boxes instead of smashed up!
Yes extra hype dolls can be sold out during the membership period but with her being available on Amazon you stand a better chance (and better price when factoring in shipping). I got the membership for getting the jump on clothing packs and the dolls of the Signature Looks line (especially the "special" edition), sales, and access to dolly forums. For a sense of security, I can see getting a membership but tbh why not find a dolly friend that has a membership but, was not going for the doll intially, to get one for you or be on standby. People do it all the time with Integrity drops.
Gypsie, I understand your FOMO about the Aaliyah doll - I feel it too! 😄 But I do want to say that I joined the Barbie membership about four years ago, and it’s not really “culty,” lol. There are shipping fees, which I don’t love. But you do hear about new dolls first (and have a chance to buy them early), and the regular folks on the member forums have been incredibly positive, funny and helpful. The forums are the best part, IMO. Plus it’s only $10! 🤷🏾♂

The doll will be released on Jan 16th (her bday) but I believe there will be early access for members of Mattel Creations. More details will be announced soon. I helped Aaliyah’s Brother work on this doll, so I’m super excited for everyone to get her, including myself. I hope everyone is able to get her without stress. I’m not much of a Barbie collector, but there was a doll that I wanted to purchase that had special meaning. I went ahead and bought the membership, being a non-membership person like yourself, it irked me, but figured if that’s what I gotta do that’s what I gotta do. It does make it a little easier to be a member so you can just go ahead order the doll have it arrive and be done with it. I’ve never ever had a problem with Mattel, they shipped the doll out when they ship them out and they’re not ever too late, but I have gotten dolls that have been sold out after the Initial members only order period. It’s just a matter of you deciding if it’s worth the $10. As far as being weirded out about being in a “barbie club” it’s not really an issue because I don’t go through all the blogs and stuff like that. It’s not like I need to know all there is to know about every single thing about Barbie stuff, so maybe you wouldn’t think that you’re a member of any club either. It’s just a fee to buy which is a bummer, but that’s how they do it. Enjoy your videos, as an Asperger person I can appreciate your pre-worry about things you really care about. This is my first doll i get to pre-purchase and its already worth it. I CANT WAIT!!!! EDIT: Also the membership is only $10 for a YEAR. Thats less than a dollar a month for early access and voting!
I had the Mattel membership for a couple of years - it paid for itself quickly as the £10 (UK - NOT Dollars) is equivalent to the shipping charge. The disadvantage was that it put dolls into my line of sight that I “wanted” and I had to be super strong willed not to buy just because I’d seen it. The delays in shipping really bug me - but that seems to be more about Mattel securing the sales before they put the dolls into full production. It really bugs me that almost as soon as some dolls are listed for members only, they appear on eBay at inflated prices because someone has paid that membership fee and is now looking to rip off genuine collectors. (From experience the shipping fee is the same if you by more than one doll in the same order (I bought 3 dolls with completely different shipping schedules and was only charged one shipping fee). It would be a lot more fair if Mattel properly limited the sale of “special” dolls to one doll per member - sure there are ways around that but it would cut out a (small) number of scalpers.
I don’t even know what to tell u about this, specifically because this itself is a recollection I am having myself from back in the day. But when I used to be obsessed with Mattel cuz they had been putting out an updated more expensive collector aimed line of updated levels of articulation figures of the He-man toy line they had called ‘Masters of the Universe Classics’ that were only sold on a site Mattel made for selling that line on, which I believe was called Mattycollector (which I don’t think is an active site any more even). But those figures had a site membership ordering option that came out as the line progressed, that I remember having issues with keeping up with cuz they kept taking money out at different times and it messed up my account several times because of. But even with that issue aside, the figures were supposed to be guaranteed to the people with the membership so long as there were enough figures made of which I think there was like a limit of like 4 up to I’m thinking 7 for some reason, even though I can’t remember or have any actual memory for the reason behind why I’m thinking it was 7, but it was all dumb anyways. Excuse the whole point of the meme reshot was supposed to be because it would make them know how many figures they needed to make. And that was because that wave of figures were only made based on if the release of its wave of characters made enough membership sales in order to qualify them to be able to have the batch made based on how many the manufacturing factory costs demanded being met to justify allowing them to be made. They didn’t offer preordering at that time. But then say if sales sometimes this figures would sell out in even less than a minute based on its supposed popularity, if I’m remembering correctly. But I guess I’m just trying to say I don’t know what to think of the current sites sell out timing might be but it’s been an issue across the board with them unfortunately. So I just wish u nothing but the best of experiences with this regardless and🤞from me to u at least till I find out if u got her successfully, or however it goes down for u!!! Mariah Carey's doll was on the Mattel website, the doll sold out. They received more stock on Mattel Creations, and then I started noticing the doll being sold in other stores.
I did the member for Wednesday addams for monster high cuz i didn't want to go through the same thing with Jack and sally and it sold out in mins.... they know what they are doing and it sucks either way. I will never pay double they can rot in storage for all I care lol but the 10 is peace of mind and not having to feel the anxiety at the checkout line. Cuz Amazon isn't guaranteed as well. It all depends with how many they made.. the mattel creation ones seem to be in smaller batches.. the best I can suggest is look up what people went through with Stevie Nicks.
The membership only worked to my advantage when i bought the Swirl. I'm not a fan but she was a beautiful woman and her doll is pretty that's good enough for me. Afraid about her outfit deteriorating over time though.
I just want to say thank you for another great video I don't know to much, about the mattel cult besides the members are not really to happy with it scalpers definitely hover over that site I hope she does not sell out first 15 mins but it could be an possibility for sure I think then she will only increase in price from there in these types of situations it's the earlier you get the doll the better if you can afford it.

The scalpers are in the club tho. So you are not granted. IT has happened to me for both MH and Barbie to be in the club and not get the doll. And I was there the first 3 secs and the dolls got taken out of my cart D; I get for not wanting to deal with mattel and for me you can add customs and international shipping too. No about the member getting all the dolls. How it works is they get lets say 100 dolls for club. When they are out they are out. The next day for the regular drop they have another 100 that they upload.

I don’t think she actually sold out. I checked every website on her original release date and she was never in stock anywhere, and very few people have ever seen her in stores. It was pointed out that there was a mistranslation of the Cherokee wording on her box, and it seems like instead of fixing it they just limited the doll’s release.
If you decide to pay the extra for Mattel to get her or try- do it I buy more dolls from them so I have a membership and I am worried about getting her too. I want to try for 2 just incase and have one for a friend you misses out like I did on a previous doll. Maybe a dolly friend could try through Mattel if they are already a member 🤷♀️ I am hoping scalpers don’t get her or many. 🤞 Also they claim that some are set aside for the general public but members do have priority and they have “sold out” and then released more later so 🤷♀️

I got the membership one year for a Barbie Signature doll and l basically dont see the point of it... l already want the stupid Midge version of the Barbie deluxe style....and totallly forgot about Aaliyah and so now pockets hurt, and a part of me is telling myself l dont ANY of these dolls during these crazy times anyways!! and l am rambling. But l will be trying Amazon for her, instead. Less drama that way. The end😂
I recommend Amazon instead as well. My MH Creeproductions were delayed, but I did eventually get them. I heard people who ordered them from Mattel Creations getting their orders canceled.

I was excited when I've heard about Aaliyah doll release, but then I saw what they've made. And they did her a bit lazy. Aaliayh was so beautiful. And also I hoped for her costume from Queen of the Damned. And we are getting nothing of this. Though if you know a master-repainter, you can ask to improve it after mattel.
I think it’s best to judge the doll in person. I assisted her Brother on this project & there was nothing lazily done on our part. She has a custom sculpt in Aaliyah’s likeness and it’s beautiful! The outfit is a replica of what she wore in her ‘One In A Million’ video & looks great! Timeless and signature Aaliyah. As much as I adore her ‘Queen Of The Damned’ Akasha look, & would love a doll of it, it wouldn’t make sense to release a doll of her wearing that costume, as it’s a character she played, and this doll is a tribute to Aaliyah.
If you're okay with paying the extra $10, then maybe go ahead and get the membership but give them a junk email address so you don't have to deal with all the messages and cult-y nonsense. I don't know--just seems like, if you're really set on getting the doll it might be worth it for the peace of mind. I'm not a member, never have been, so can't comment on what that's like, but it sounds like they do charge the "retail" price. Amazon's faster but may be more expensive/sold out at first?

Tina did sell out fast, though, and her resale price has never dropped (in fact, it’s currently insanely high). 😔

I have a membership. They do take forever to send dolls and you still have to pay shipping. But if you want it badly it might be worth the $10.

If you decide to pay the extra for Mattel to get her or try- do it I buy more dolls from them so I have a membership and I am worried about getting her too. I want to try for 2 just incase and have one for a friend you misses out like I did on a previous doll. Maybe a dolly friend could try through Mattel if they are already a member 🤷♀️ I am hoping scalpers don’t get her or many. 🤞
Also they claim that some are set aside for the general public but members do have priority and they have “sold out” and then released more later so 🤷♀️
I searched Ebay and two had a presale price of over $200.
I know you haven’t reviewed the doll yet, but I wish they had put her in the Try Again outfit. But maybe that was too risqué.

I got the membership one year for a Barbie Signature doll and l basically dont see the point of it... l already want the stupid Midge version of the Barbie deluxe style....and totallly forgot about Aaliyah and so now pockets hurt, and a part of me is telling myself l dont ANY of these dolls during these crazy times anyways!! and l am rambling. But l will be trying Amazon for her, instead. Less drama that way. The end😂
I recommend Amazon instead as well. My MH Creeproductions were delayed, but I did eventually get them. I heard people who ordered them from Mattel Creations getting their orders canceled.

I was excited when I've heard about Aaliyah doll release, but then I saw what they've made. And they did her a bit lazy. Aaliayh was so beautiful. And also I hoped for her costume from Queen of the Damned. And we are getting nothing of this. Though if you know a master-repainter, you can ask to improve it after mattel.
I think it’s best to judge the doll in person. I assisted her Brother on this project & there was nothing lazily done on our part. She has a custom sculpt in Aaliyah’s likeness and it’s beautiful! The outfit is a replica of what she wore in her ‘One In A Million’ video & looks great! Timeless and signature Aaliyah. As much as I adore her ‘Queen Of The Damned’ Akasha look, & would love a doll of it, it wouldn’t make sense to release a doll of her wearing that costume, as it’s a character she played, and this doll is a tribute to Aaliyah.
If you're okay with paying the extra $10, then maybe go ahead and get the membership but give them a junk email address so you don't have to deal with all the messages and cult-y nonsense. I don't know--just seems like, if you're really set on getting the doll it might be worth it for the peace of mind. I'm not a member, never have been, so can't comment on what that's like, but it sounds like they do charge the "retail" price. Amazon's faster but may be more expensive/sold out at first?

The membership is yearly (like $10 for a whole year), and I don't think it renews automatically.
I had the Mattel membership for a couple of years - it paid for itself quickly as the £10 (UK - NOT Dollars) is equivalent to the shipping charge. The disadvantage was that it put dolls into my line of sight that I “wanted” and I had to be super strong willed not to buy just because I’d seen it.
The delays in shipping really bug me - but that seems to be more about Mattel securing the sales before they put the dolls into full production. It really bugs me that almost as soon as some dolls are listed for members only, they appear on eBay at inflated prices because someone has paid that membership fee and is now looking to rip off genuine collectors. (From experience the shipping fee is the same if you by more than one doll in the same order (I bought 3 dolls with completely different shipping schedules and was only charged one shipping fee).
It would be a lot more fair if Mattel properly limited the sale of “special” dolls to one doll per member - sure there are ways around that but it would cut out a (small) number of scalpers.
