Love it tons! Personally, I would have tried to leave a spot where the elemental could fully stand on the lava. It looked odd to me with some parts just bridging between the gaps. Love the idea of doing all of the elementals! When you do the earth elemental would you be able to try and make it a sandier version of an earth elemental? Need some inspiration for my D&D campaign but I don't think that they're a thing! Love the videos and glad I've found you! 👍
Yeah I totally agree with the base, this was my first time doing lava and I should have done a more "it coming out of the ground". I might actually re-do it. Would that make an interesting video? The Earth elemental does look quite rocky, but it gave me another idea that I might try! Thanks for the love and for the sub! Happy you like it!! :D
Another cracking video. Great to see you are slowly getting through your pile on minis :) Any chance you could maybe do a showcase of all the ones you have completed so far? I think this would help encourage others who are tackling the same sort of mound of minis.
Cheers Adeptus! Yeah I am not really a fan of clear fire unless one would use light or something. So with this one I went opaque! That being said, I did repaint this one in the next video! 👍🤣
@@DevsDice oddly enough, I am watching it now, lol. I like your second base much better, however, I like the original paint job. Again thanks for what you do, it gives me a good starting point on my minis.
One of my first minis was a fire elemental that I added fire details to in order to make it look like a fire elemental. Painting it is so much fun as it is easy and was a great way to introduce myself to various simple techniques like drybrushing and the like.
Yeah they are simple to get to a tabletop quality and a good starting miniature! I wish I could figure out how to highlight it more. Think I need to study some concept art or something! :) Thanks for the comments!
It looks sweet! The over brush yellow on the base* looks like it’s being cast from the fire elemental itself. Do you ever paint any of those with translucent paints and if so what do you use?
I haven't painted any transparent ones but I would do it and wanted to retain the transparent nature, then I would have used inks or potentially contrast paints. Both are very good at tinting without covering the miniature! Thanks for the comment!
@@Dr._Potato if you paint with citadel shades, you'll need loooots of layers. vallejo inks don't need that many layers. it's important to give it a gloss varnish in the end because this adds even more transluc...inity? don't know the word lol
@@lutsurugi I still like how it turned out, And yes I added gloss varnish to make it S H I N Y EDIT: I didn't just use shades, I used base paints as well
@@DevsDice what made you decide to repaint this particular mini? And were you happy with it at the first time painting it in the past? I only ask because I was painting a rather large elemental side by side with you and I didn't prime mine but I also couldn't bring out that rich color I was looking for and have achieved when tackling nightmares.
The reasoning behind me repainting this one was really that I wasn't that happy with the result and I wanted to challenge myself. When it comes to the saturation of acrylic paints I generally want to think about the undercoating, so if you want something bright yellow then undercoat with white. One aspect is also trying inks e.g. Vallejo Inks, they are super saturated but transparent so you would still need an undercoating of white in this case. Did that help? 🤔👍
@@DevsDice yes! That must be where I went wrong. I went straight in with a velejo yellow ink and no undercoat so my colors were sub-par. Thank you! I will do that next time :)
Haha! Thank you for your opinion Aerius Astrum! The reason why I covered it up with a primer was because I wanted saturated colors and also in my opinion fire isn't really transparent-looking. But again, thanks for sharing your view on things! 👍😀
Not gonna lie, this felt abit lazy. Not "highlighting" the elemental, nor making it feel more ember like in it's coat when I'd like to see some dots or some attention to detail. The base as well, with it just being cork, no rocks and the cork shooting up in a 90 degree angle instead of being cut so that it's mor like actual rock or hardened lava, cork is probably the wrong material as you'd like it to look like melting ice-cream, where it has a smooth surface but where it is cracked, it looks more like the cork or rock you used, however this is probably the least of my concern as it is just the base, tsukuyomiful down below in the comments have it right, where the mini is standing awkwardly on the stone. Not intended to bash, but more as to how this felt for a viewer, it really felt like this took under an hour to make, which it never should if you are paying attention to details in the mini and really figuring out how it should convey the fire, the lava and the rock in the most realistic way.
Fair enough! Not sure how I should have highlighted the mini but yeah it was a quick job but you know what? I might actually go back and redo some parts cause I was not happy with the base and yeah I am sure that the paint job can be better. I just need to figure out how! :) And don't fret, criticism with some solid feedback is good. If you would have stopped at "lazy" I wouldn't have listened to you but you now gave me some solid pointers so THANK YOU! :) I might do a re-paint on this actually! ;)
@@DevsDice I mean highlighting as in making the red/orange highlighted, as in go in with the brush to give it that edge, just drybrushing isn't enough in my opinion, but it is a good base. I saw some paintjobs using sot at the top, like a black and gray border to simulate a smoke. Then highlighting the depth with a white yellow to make the fire more prominent and bright. no need to redo, we all make mistakes. Have that as a reminder and give good attention to the next! We all like your videos so just keep it up Leif, great work so far and I just love listening to you.
Thanks but I wasn’t very happy with the base and you raise good points. Like I said in another comment: the important thing is that I am reasonably happy with the mini and on further thought I am not happy. I want to develop and not just pump out minis so yeah will be looking into it this weekend! :)
Very straightforward and helpful. Thanks D&D

Wow! Once I have sorted some sort of a structure in my miniature storage that might be a thing! :D Thanks for the idea though!
at the start I was thinking why did you prime before the yellow ink, it's clear for a reason, but looking at the final result and it looks awesome
