After NF dropped this album, he went on live stream and someone thanked him for Trauma- he seemed relieved- he said he wasn't sure how people would feel about that song. Me, personally, I love it. I cry almost every time I hear it. Beautiful.
This song Nate was nervous to put out a singing only track. He wasn't sure fans would want it. Well he trusted us with his art yet again. How did he not get a Grammy nom for this album?
I've always viewed this song as him talking to his traumas. Whether things he, himself, has done in the past, or things others have done to him. He wishes that they would "love him back" because he holds onto his traumas so tightly as if he "loved" them. And also he holds them proudly because they made him who he is. But he also wishes he could move past them. He wishes his traumas would help him, because he thinks they should be making him better, which they have to an extent, and by making him better he can move on from them. I think he also views himself, currently, and his traumatized self, past, as different people in this song. So long story short. I think it's about himself/traumas he's experienced.
What a graceful way to end an album. The search is by far one of the best albums hand down. NF is full of talent I can't wait to see what else he brings to the table. Whoever needs some soul searching this is the perfect album to listen to. We are all searching. I love you guys thank you so much for doing the whole album ❤️ Thank you
The Chelo, violins, and piano were like someone holding me while being at the edge just about to fall. This song is on my go-to Playlist when I feel sad, dawn, and kinda depressed. And that playlist is literally a collection of songs that help me get through those moments. Some of them make me cry, and others are more like a hug, a light at the end of the tunnel that tells me to keep walking. Trauma, I miss the days and Paralyzed.
I love this as the ending of the album. We all want a happy ending, easy answers and closure but reality is that life’s searches are complicated and convoluted. I think he’s talking to himself in this song
i have recently begun watching all of your NF reactions so I have been waiting for this one. I love Trauma, the piano, the lyrics, his voice, everything is just so beautiful
For me this is the best album of all time. From the first song to the last song, I can relate to each and every single one. I love music and always have. It affects me in many ways and can bring me back in time instantly. As a collective whole, no one has ever touched my life through music or words the way that NF has. I hate to say this because I know it's comments like this that add to Nate's stress, but his music literally saved my life. And it keeps me away from the edge of the cliff that I cheated on for so long
Trama can capture your soul, when you go through stuff specially at a young age, still figuring yourself out, that one line trauma why don't you love me back, says it all. You can get lost in all the bad things that happen , the hurt, thr pain. Why people relate to NF cause you don't feel alone
You guys have no idea! How much I wait for these NF reactions. Now that the search album is over I can’t wait for you guys to dive into his perception album. Know, Destiny, my life, one hundred and motivated (mansion album) are my favorite bangers. Looking forward to more NF reactions 💯
This song with the instrumentals made me cry. It is so beautiful I feel like this is a call back to let you down when he was drowning and older him was watching. He could be speaking to himself here. Esp since in this album in his Nate song he was speaking to his younger self.
His songs truly get better over time. I have been listening to his songs for years now and I am still finding new things to appreciate, lines that connect, and sounds that are layered (no pun intended). Songs like Nate, Let Me Go, 10 Feet Down, Prideful grew on me the more I listened to it.
I love the ambiguity in his music. I think it helps on an array of issues that everyone deals with. This song helped me through the darkest times of my life and I still listen to it to remind me of where I was vs where I am at. It's therapy for him, but I think that he is helping so many people deal with the things they have been through in their lives. The fact that he leaves it open to interpretation, makes his music reach that much farther. I have so much respect for someone who can put themselves in a vulnerable spot but open it up to make people feel comfortable with their own vulnerability
Great job psychos!!! I’ve always felt it’s him talking to his inner self/emotions. “Change” is my favorite on this album, but this one and Let Me Go are almost perfect for that introspective point of view. Can’t wait to see what he has coming next.
Congratulations on your journey. As well as finishing the Search. Looking for to you reacting to the next album you choose to react to. Great job guys.
This song makes me cryyyyy for him :( I know hes an adult, but I feel hes almost like a small child when his songs are like this and I want to adopt him and hug him, like I would do for my own son. This song kills me. Another great reaction!
I feel like NF is talking to his inner self; the innocent child in him that is buried under trauma and hidden by fears and anxieties. This was beautiful Gentlemen. It's been a pleasure going through the whole journey with you both! Looking forward to what's in store next. In the meantime, let's never forget how fortunate we are to have NF in this world, laying out things in verse that most can't even put into words.
I get chills at the very end EVeRy time. I am thrilled for you guys to be able to play The Search start to finish. Erin you are spot on. One of the best full albums! Amazing reactions and I feel so honored we got to follow y’all’s journey. It was epic!!!! This was the album I found NF and to this day the entire album is still my go to.
Strangest thing, I always hear people say “NFs music finds you when you need it” or something like that and I thought, I guess so. Then later I decided to look at all the artists I listen to and I see this song. I’ve had it on my playlist for years but never realized it was one of his (mostly because I didn’t start listening to his other songs till recently). This song was always one that I felt deeply, and honestly cried while listening. It’s crazy but this song made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
I believe it’s freedom he’s saying “grab my hand”to, freeing him from while the “trauma surrounds me”. Nate mentioned “searching” for “the seven letters”. Being able to move and not be swamped by the trauma always surrounding him…I also believe he’s could be talking to other emotions, but he knows “freedom” is the key to his emotional well-being, and be able to get him through his emotional trauma. His faith is like the music, ever moving Nate in his Christian walk, so that he will be able destroy finally sever the crippling fear, giving in to the fresh air of Freedom!
Idk if y’all will read this but I’m posting it here because I THINK I just came to a realization This is Hope, but this is hope having yet to be found. Album is called “The Search”. You can look at this one of two ways- “Searching for the Map to Hope” or “Searching for the seven letters (FREEDOM)” Either way, TRAUMA was on The Search which leads to the into to his next album “HOPE” Quotes in the song “Traumas they surround me” and “why haven’t you found me yet?” As well as “Take my hand I’m drowning” could all indicate Hope is trying to reach NF because he ALMOST found him, but in order to grab hold, he has to deal with the traumas and past demons i.e in HOPE “I spent years carrying g a lot of baggage that I should’ve walked away from-“ It may be a reach, but I have reason to believe TRAUMA is hope calling out to NF but not being heard
Listened to this twice on the way to work. Such powerful music to go with his words. Such an amazing album and one of the few I have heard where I enjoyed every song. I know people always want to get him up there with the best in rap. But I just think he is so well rounded that he might be up there as one of the most complete artists. He just can do so much more than most rappers. I just really enjoy NF and I consider him an artist and not just a rapper.
Nf has stated that they are on the top of his list for collabs. No idea if it’s changed since then but I have hope. He has a new album coming out soon so I guess we’ll see. As they are my two favorite artists I really want them too!
when "the search" album dropped, i played it, in entirety, for the next TWO YEARS on repeat. i RARELY listened to anything else. Every single day, every single song, for two years straight. and this song... still to this day.. effects me so hard.
Album is FLAMEZZZZZZ, and in my all time top albums for sure. Love the channel....now we just need Nate to give us another plateful of music #nfrealmusic
I've listened to this song so many times but while watching this reaction I thought, is it younger Nate talking to older Nate in almost a reprise from the song Nate!? 🤔 This is one of my favourite songs from this album! 💖
I I really hope you guys see this but man you guys touch my heart I don’t know why but you guys give me this vibe that is unexplainable idk if it’s cuz you remind me of me and my brother even tho we don’t have a great relationship I guess you guys remind me of what me and my brother could be but your guys reaction are so good and I loved your guys take on Christianity in one of your other videos you guys have been a bright spot in my day for the past month tysm
The breakfast club shirt fits so well with this track lol but yeah, this one wasn’t that hard to hear. Even with it being about trauma, it was still very like melancholy. It just flowed out of him as if he wasn’t even trying.
for my dance class, i choreographed a dance for this and when i performed it for a showcase i started crying at the end. it wasn’t meant to be part of my routine but this is the song i just can’t listen too bc i it makes me emotional
I think it's really cool how it seems like NF ends an album speaking to himself. Therapy session had Lost in the Moment, The Search has Trauma, Hope has Running, Mansion has Paralyzed, I'll keep on, and can you hold me at the end, I almost expect NF to end an album now by speaking to himself, and in turn all of us.
For me this hits different because this is like, actual sadness, while many others bring the "emotionlessness", the depression. Trauma doesn't feel like "dead inside", it feels more like genuine sadness for me, different from some songs like "Hate Myself", "Lost In The Moment" or "Paralyzed"
So, I had a friend who was a trained musician listen to this album, and I have seen several people since point this out, but 'Trauma' seems to be a mirror to 'Hate Myself' like this is the other part to which he was talking and their POV of the situation. I had it explained to me how the music itself supports this, but I honestly don't remember how they explained it.
The strings are heartbreaking. It feels like your on a sailboat in the middle of the ocean and the instruments are the wind giving you just enough in the sails to keep pushing you forward. I feel like he is talking to the personification of hope. Because the whole point of The search is trying to find the map to hope. But here he is asking/begging for hope to instead find him because he is so surrounded and so lost that he has almost given up... and the instruments, the wind, It's almost like God speaking back to him. Hope is here. It may seem like we are going slow but I promise I am around the corner
Lotta ways to interpret it, which is the joy of NF. So much realness but theres a vagueness too that makes it so relatable for everyone. I'm in the talking to himself camp--the hook makes so much sense being direct at his 'Real'self. Thats the slogan, right Nathan? Thats what he takes pride in. But self-doubt says, what if its really just a mask/smile that he wears for othe people. He talks about holding it tightly and trading off being happy for feeling 'safe.' As an autistic person (which I know NF is not, but the correlation is there for me) this makes so much sense. Masking your true self to make other people happy or to just get by, can start to feel like a traumatic experience itself. You lose a part of yourself when you spend so much time trying to appear 'normal.' Then you're left holding the bag going--I thought this was supposed to help me, to save me? Why has it made it all worse? Then all that's left is the search for your own identity/true self. Who are you after years of that?
Talking to himself, the struggle inside his head be free, to find peace, happiness, hope escape from fear and the insecurities to be okay with himself and not carry the blame for things that was out of his control throughout life and finally love himself.
Thank you guys so much for taking the NF! A new album is coming, can’t wait to hear you guys react to that with the rest of us fan’s! So thanks again!🙌 Yes, to the playlist for NF!
"Trauma" is about how our perception can be distorted when we're in pain. We can view those trying to help us, or even God, as uncaring because we don't understand reality. We can also mistake lies for truths that will protect us, and think that by being afraid it will keep us from doing things that will hurt us.
Nice insight Pamela. I like how Nate doesn't pretend that God has fixed everything which is what I did the first 20 years of my Christian walk. I am now a lot more broken, and sometimes our perception of God is twisted. Probably most of the time. I know God is more loving, more caring, more interested, and more kind than I am and I guess that is why I think He understands.
So I have a theory here: I think in the first verse he is talking to Hope because the entire album is dedicated to him going on that journey and looking for it. He wants hope to find him so he can embrace him and love him back. In the 2nd verse he is probably talking to pride, because of the line when he says "ask for help you call it weakness", and we all know people who are prideful find it difficult to seek help.
When I hear this, I see a person sitting alone on a beach with rain falling as they just stare off into the ocean trying to find something inside them. I don't know if that makes sense, but it's how the song hit me. An absolutely beautiful and emotional song.
I think this is him singing to peace, the search was him searching for hope and peace in his life, and I think this was him singing to peace and hope wanting it to love him and grab him, but for some reason it never came during this time in his life. And it ties so well into Hope now in that it finally closes this chapter.
I feel like he's talking to his trauma. You get stuck in your trauma and it feels safer at times. Just like he talked to his notebook in notebook. Just a thought.
I agree with those that believe he is talking to himself....I took it as it's his young self crying out for adult nate to find him drowning in all of the childhood traumas that are surrounding him. I ugly cried the first time I heard this song because it was like my own inner child speaking to me, it gave her the voice she needed during my current trauma therapy. Loving your NF reactions!
I have loved your journey. I hope you carry on with the songs of his that you haven't heard yet as there are lots of great ones in there. It's funny you mention the song Nate, because I think this song is 6 year old Nate's response to grown up Nate, who "doesn't love him back" and who "still hasn't found him". Often, as adults, the journey of therapy, the search as it were, is to find and accept and begin to love the child in us rather than treat that part of us as we learned to treat ourselves so we could get by, when we were kids!! We have to stop "looking down" on them, as he says he does in Nate and "feel sorry for" them and ourselves!! That's part of the map to hope 🤗 Maybe it's just the therapist in me that sees that but maybe listen again and see what you think.
I really feel like NF is talking to "Hope", "Joy", and "Happiness" in this song. As many of you know Nate's "Trauma" has several causes. "Anger", "Fear", and "Regret" have him locked up in "Pain". Nate is ultimately "Searching" for "Freedom". Which many believe is the "7 Letters". There are 3 keys on the keyring he holds. Those keys will lead to his "Freedom" from "Anger", "Fear", and "Regret". Nf is "Searching" for "Hope" which will lead to "Joy". "Joy" will lead to "Happiness". Those 3 things will lead to his "Freedom". Your journey has been amazing to watch! Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Great reactions! Another good song that you guys should take a look was the single Warm Up, plus has a music video. I didn't saw as part of the journey. Cracks me up every time where Eric drinks his beers.
i don’t know if anyone else caught it but in trauma he says “grab my hand i’m drowning” and in the hope music video it opens with him in the middle of the ocean on a raft, symbolizing that he’s no longer drowning.
I feel NF is much like Linkin Park, an outlet for the artists' emotions, thoughts, and past. Not to whine, but to gain therapy from it and let people know they aren't alone in those emotions, or even experiences. NF is VERY vocal in that his music is a form of therapy for him. I've never heard of anyone in Linkin Park saying that. Except for one interview where Chester said, and I paraphrase, "Touring is the only way to quiet the demons in my brain". Love him or hate him, NF is real and doesn't lie about anything in his tracks. He lays his heart and mind out for all to see. His traumas, his negative thoughts, his negative emotions, but also his hopes and dreams, his battle, and his growing self-love. He is, in my opinion, one of the new gen legends. People may not like him now, but they will in the future. If only because so many people related to him and found solace and support in his words, whether they knew him or not. Like Linkin Park, I think NF has already built a family of fans around himself, which will only grow in as time goes on.
NF Real Music. I think this is definitely a moment where he went all the way to the extent of his search to find himself and it wasn't a happy ending...Like being lost and wants to be found and not found being dead because of the trauma. Best way I understand this track and the whole album
I think he's talking to himself. Like in Leave Me Alone he mentions his self hatred. And in Let Me Go he says "aim in your direction shoot at my reflection". And of course the song Hate Myself. The album is called the search and he says "why haven't you found me yet".
We need another NF week! I have re-watched you guys go through the whole journey. Guess what! I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Rykerroad and NF!
Yes! NF... I feel that he left this song up for interpretation for the listener. Of course, with Nate I am sure there is a much more personal meaning behind it, but I kinda like how he ended the Search album. It definitely leaves his fans wanting more and pondering what this new album will be like. Now when his album comes out you guys can react to that with all the rest of us for the first time. Edit: this song describes my depression and how I feel when I try to explain my feelings to my fiance' or family
I know that it might sound obvious, but I love how the album called "The Search" ends with the line "Why haven't you found me (yet)?"
Yes!!! Nobody ever points this out, and it’s one of my favorite things!
I’m surprised they didn’t catch it lol
Would that be hope asking nate... he's now finding hope. Interesting connection now with the new album coming
It makes you wonder if the song is a preview of his dialogue with Hope.
Yo that would be insane!! Is it hope talking to NF?
After NF dropped this album, he went on live stream and someone thanked him for Trauma- he seemed relieved- he said he wasn't sure how people would feel about that song. Me, personally, I love it. I cry almost every time I hear it. Beautiful.
I’m a firm believer that he is talking to himself in this song. Much like he does in “lost in the moment” on therapy session.
most of his songs he talks to himself
I completely agree!!
"It's my fault I know I'm selfish "
it makes you more sad when you realise he is talking to himself :(
And like 'let me go'.... Fuckin love that song
You’ve come a long way since your very first NF reaction to when I grow up 🥹
Right?! It's hard to believe that was last year.
Kayy thank you so much for getting the guys to react to NF. It's been a great ride.
Tell them to react to "Warm up"! 😁
@@timothyguerin431 they’re going through all of his songs so they’ll get to that one!
@@kayy8429 you are the Kayy that introduced him to the boss NF?
What a graceful way to end an album. The search is by far one of the best albums hand down. NF is full of talent I can't wait to see what else he brings to the table. love that song! I think of it as him singing to "self love". but the lyric "trade my joy for my protection" hits me hard. Love you guys!

trauma is one of his absolute best songs, so glad you reacted to this
This one made me cry when I first heard it! Love what you guys do!!

“I’m searchin’ for the map to hope you seen it?” - The Search

Brilliant song apparently there's an album coming soon 👀
It relates to all sorts of 'trauma' but I feel he was talking to music.
Look at it this way. He is still searching for LOVE and understanding at the time of this album.
Congratulations on your journey. As well as finishing the Search. Looking for to you reacting to the next album you choose to react to. Great job guys.

This is one of my favorite songs of his, it is so beautiful. From the orchestra to the pacing to the lyrics. Like Kyle said, its poetic and pleasing
I feel like NF is talking to his inner self; the innocent child in him that is buried under trauma and hidden by fears and anxieties.

I saw it as him talking to the balloons. Because he says “I hold you so proudly”
While it is sad, So glad to see you finally finish the search, it’s been an amazing journey :))
Like most things of NFs...I believe this is an internal conversation with himself.
I believe it’s freedom he’s saying “grab my hand”to, freeing him from while the “trauma surrounds me”.

Either way, TRAUMA was on The Search which leads to the into to his next album “HOPE”
Quotes in the song “Traumas they surround me” and “why haven’t you found me yet?” As well as “Take my hand I’m drowning” could all indicate Hope is trying to reach NF because he ALMOST found him, but in order to grab hold, he has to deal with the traumas and past demons i.e in HOPE “I spent years carrying g a lot of baggage that I should’ve walked away from-“
It may be a reach, but I have reason to believe TRAUMA is hope calling out to NF but not being heard

I believe this is Hope singing to Nate
This "one of the best albums I've ever heard" (Eric) wasn't even nominated for a Grammy. That's a Joke.
I’ve enjoyed the journey with Nf and Kyle’s hair
Thank you guys so much for taking the NF! A new album is coming, can’t wait to hear you guys react to that with the rest of us fan’s! So thanks again!🙌 Yes, to the playlist for NF!
That violin though.
The one I’ve been waiting for.
So I have a theory here:
I think in the first verse he is talking to Hope because the entire album is dedicated to him going on that journey and looking for it. He wants hope to find him so he can embrace him and love him back.
In the 2nd verse he is probably talking to pride, because of the line when he says "ask for help you call it weakness", and we all know people who are prideful find it difficult to seek help.
One of those nf songs that just takes you on a emotional journey! a fav from the search for me
When I hear this, I see a person sitting alone on a beach with rain falling as they just stare off into the ocean trying to find something inside them.
That's part of the map to hope 🤗
Maybe it's just the therapist in me that sees that but maybe listen again and see what you think.
I started the video thinking "I should put down my peanuts for this" and ended the song in tears while I ate my peanuts 😂
Cheers!
I love throwing this album on and listening from beginning to end no shuffle no skips and it’s beautiful
Thank you! ✌️❤️🔥🎶☕️🤗
When yall get to the end of the Mansion album, you should do through his album before that, his "Moments" album. That has some very good songs.
Great reactions! Another good song that you guys should take a look was the single Warm Up, plus has a music video. I didn't saw as part of the journey. Cracks me up every time where Eric drinks his beers.
Also My Life, One hundred!
Been great traveling with you guys! Appreciate it.
This album and the order of the songs is a masterpiece.
i don’t know if anyone else caught it but in trauma he says “grab my hand i’m drowning” and in the hope music video it opens with him in the middle of the ocean on a raft, symbolizing that he’s no longer drowning.
Perception is 💥💣🔥 hope you guys react to the songs y'all haven't heard yet.
At the end of the search, all that's left is a broken boy.
My take has always been he is finally talking to “HOPE”
Looking for the map to hope, have you seen it? -The Search
I have always thought that this song was little Nate talking back to older Nate in response to the song "Nate".
wow Men ! you are amazing and I thank you for this > discovering the depth of NF ...
NF Real Music. I think this is definitely a moment where he went all the way to the extent of his search to find himself and it wasn't a happy ending...Like being lost and wants to be found and not found being dead because of the trauma. Best way I understand this track and the whole album
Wrote this to my dad after getting in a heated conversation with him about music.
NF is my number one! Always has been!
We need dance Gavin dance in the very near future
Great reaction guys (yet again)!
I agree with other comments, I believe he is talking to himself and his traumas...good song though!
Now an we. Do breathe byNF
Yes!
I've always thought he was talking between trauma and hope in this song.
they're gonna conclude this post with them hitting play on "01 The Search", right? right?!
Love you guys!!
I think he is searching for the map to hope and tweeted an H so I wonder if the new album won’t be Hope
Idk why but this song gives me Twilight vibes. And not in a bad way, just seems like it'd be on the soundtrack.
Please finish up Ice Nine kills and Motionless in White’s albums. Your channel is the best I’ve seen in a really long time ❤️🔥
You guys still have some NF jams 3AM is awesome Dreams
Love y’all’s reaction my guys … would love to see y’all do a full album of twenty one pilots
