I have had this book on my radar since it was published. 2014 era booktube loved doing interviews with Pierce Brown
I think you'll love it! Yeah he was doing a lot of interviews back then wasn't he!
Totally recommend doing this, especially for longer books like Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings and action packed works with great narrators like Black Library titles by Jonathan Keeble, Toby Longworth, and Helen Keeley, and similar works like Joe Abercrombie’s books narrated by voice actor Steven Pacey.
Also, took a while to find the best audio speed player which enabled completely variable speed options - my favourite is aptly called Music Speed Changer on iPhone.
Now I want to read Red Rising (which has been on my tbr list for years!)
I love Toby Longworth and Jonathan Keeble's narrations that I've listened to. Perhaps a different narrator that wasn't so slow might work best for me, I tend to enjoy narrators that are just reading the book rather than putting on much of a performance, if that makes sense.
I will have to check out the Music Speed Changer, all my audio books are on Audble, I didn't even consider trying a different app.
(You should totally read it! It's an easy read and really really good)
My favorite series of all time! Ya gotta get all caught up before book 7 comes out! I hope to see reviews of the rest of the series...the writing gets progressively better with each book, especially when you get to the second set of books in the saga (Iron Gold, Dark Age and Light Bringer). Ya got a new sub here!
Book 7 is due next year right? I'll be caught up well before then! Golden Son review coming up in about a week ;)
I also find myself struggle with immersion reading. I either have to be physically reading and words or listening to the narration, once I do them together I’m thrown off.
Red Rising is fantastic! I really need to do a reread soon.
Great video Benjamin!
Thanks mate!
Yeah I like the concept, but it just didn't work for me.
Great review. 😊I tend to listen to everything in 2x speed during my drive to work or when I'm exercising/ a walk around the neighbourhood. I tend to listen to the long epic fantasies like that where there is a lot of atmospheric description. I find that I can read the shorter 500 page books with a lot of action better in e-Book form or physical book form. ☺
Thanks so much! I agree, sometimes its easier to read the big long books as audio, not seeing that giant tome waiting on my bedside table helps a lot I think :D
Not sure when I'll get to Red Rising but I'm definitely intrigued to give it a go!
Keeping on top of the TBR pile is so hard! A struggle I am constantly failing haha.
I just can’t see immersion reading for the same reasons. Red Rising is super fun. I’d argue it’s not as close to hunger games as most people say. But I get where the comparison came from because it sells.
I’m reading Golden Son on vacation soon.
So far Golden Son is fantastic, Can't wait to see what you think of it! I think I will have my review up soon!
It's interesting to hear your experience of trying to keep audio book at your reading speed. I have the same trouble when I'm watching a YT channel and they put up the text of something and read it. I always stop the video, read the text, and jump to the end of their reading session. It's too annoying for me to see the words and keep down to somebody's speaking speed.
I often pause a video if there's a huge block of text on screen, out of anxiety that it will disappear before I finish reading it :D Then sit there in silence for the next 45 seconds as the video gives the viewer time to read haha.
