Army/navy surplus was a go-to for us kids that grew up in the 60s. Army gas mask bags and combat boots and navy peacoats were everywhere in my working class Philadelphia neighborhood. A trip to the surplus store was always a treat.
Grew up with a WWII MK VII gas mask bag. Dad removed the inner separation and was my school bag from K-12. Also pressed into service as my Beaver, Cubs, and Scout day bag. Epic kit.
Hey Chris, well, I carried one of those for close to 20 years. It was my small “Jump Bag”. It is basically a small Army Combat Medic bag. It was for the bare essentials for medical emergencies ( ie. Breaks, GSW’s, wounds, etc. ) I carried a larger M-5 bag but the majority of the time I carried a special bag that one of the parachute riggers sewed up for me. I drew up the diagram of what I wanted and he sewed it up for me! Kind of looked like a medium Alice pack but it opened up at the sides and front. Gave me full access to all my equipment at once for Major trauma without having to dig thru a ruck pack! Looked a lot like what the “Mystery Ranch” packs look like now. I used that bag because a “Red Cross” on a white field is a BULLET MAGNET! Was medically retired February 1,1990 with 20 years.
I got mine in the mail yesterday. Packed it up with all my food items, my food kit, small fire tin. Kabar fishing kaster with braided line and essentials, as well as sewing items inside of it. A tarp with some guy lines and stakes. Solar power bank. Water, gloves, and a seat pad. Will be tweaking it up of course. 2 day Everglades trip this Monday for me. I LOVE it and it’s a new addition to my other Hidden Woodsmen gear. Amazing company Much love from Miami and awesome video my friend!! 🇺🇸🙏🏽
Excellent Haversack from The Hidden Woodsman. You turned me onto Malcom years ago. I've had a Haversack and backpack of his, and they've been around the planet with me. I just added a Pathfinder water bottle kit onto the side molle of the backpack since the bag goes everywhere I travel by truck or SUV. It's become more than a travel pack now, it's my get home bag/travel pack and I can put the separate canteen kits on my motorcycles. anyway, Malcom makes outstandingly great gear. Loved your humor with the US emblem.
Pretty cool design, but that's a lot of weight to carry on one shoulder through the woods. I think with that much storage space I'd want to go with a backpack. I carried a Hidden Woodsmen haversack for years after I saw your video back in 2015 or something, but I get neck and back issues from it. I just gave up on sidebags.
52yr old here. When I carry a haversack, I have a tendency to carry two. Or I'll sling a 2qt canteen for counterweight. I do the same in my back pockets. Left pocket is a tri fold leather wallet. Right pocket is a cotton bandana, polyester buff, clr plastic emergency poncho, and a SOL ex-lg emergency blanket. Makes sitting for a while easier.
I’ve got the Haversack as well, quality stuff. Costs a lot when you live in Europe. Wirth every cent. I use my Haversack for work, dayhikes and such. Perfect bag. I’ve purchased the M55 because of the molle and D rings. That’ll make it fit perfectly to my motorcycle rack. Just to show you how versatile Malcolms designs are
I got a Model 23 backpack from The Hidden Woodsman and it cannot be understated just how insanely high quality the stuff he makes is. It's tougher and more well built than Goruck, TAD, Mystery Ranch. The money is worth it because I have no doubt the bag is going to outlast me.
I have a med kit bag very similar to this. It works really well for separation of items. Keep adding to it. Looks like a good bag for lots of applications. Been following you for a very long time. Hope your channel is going to stay strong. Good lick to you.
It's a remake of the Navy Corpsman Unit 1 medical bag. They were rubberized material during the Vietnam War. Mine in the 80's with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines Weapons Company was made of a nylon material. I would shorten the strap and wear it on my waist with the bag resting on my Butt Pack. Corpsman today no longer use them.
Thanks for the in-depth video. I saw this pack on the hidden woodsman site, & just didn’t know how it worked. Now I get it lol I’m still scratching my head over the placement of the molly, tho.
This looks like the Combat Lifesaver bag I carried in the Army with a couple of IV bags and extra medical supplies in the Army in the early 90s. They gave us a week long advanced First Aid course, which culminated in giving each other an IV. Idiot I was paired with had to stick me 7 times to make it...
Hello Chris, hadn't seen ya for a bit, keep up the good work and vids... Hope all's well with everyone/thing! Hey, I'd always hoped that I could find Ms. Right, I just hope her first name isn't "Always"!😊 Hope ya got a giggle from that... Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊
I have a GI bag that seems to be exactly the same pattern as what's shown in the video, but the material is thin nylon. If there was ever a central clasp, it's long gone leaving only a metal loop; I suspect there was a cloth tab that worked like a 'hook & loop' fastener. I've used it for a 1st aid kit for a long while; could mine be the medical bag you describe? EDIT - yes, that's what mine is. Just found a pic of it.
"honey, it's for US!"
brilliant!
Thank you Chris! Glad you are enjoying the New Haversack . Its my Take on the Old Vintage era M3 satchel.
You're the goat, man. My Model 23 is the best bag I have ever had.
I’m 100% all for a follow up video. I LOVE the old school PM101 kit videos.

A lot cooler than the 80's Fannie Pack I wear to look tough
Very nice. You and Will got me into the hidden woodsmen years ago!
Amazing!!

It looks like the Helikon Organizer Insert will fit on the velcro panel and be an awesome addition.
That is a mighty fine looking bag. I like the three-pocket organization. Can't wait for the kit video!

Much love from Miami and awesome video my friend!! 🇺🇸🙏🏽
The design like the M3 medical bag. I like the compartments for organization, keeps from having to use several pouches to organize gear

A man has got to be balanced other wise you’re going to tilt Walk in circles or fall over

I had a military issue medic tri-fold bag like that from the Vietnam era that was rubberized. It was called an instrument bag if I remember correctly.

These are pretty awesome looking Haversack designs 👌 .Definitely some potential on your daily carry or gear load 🤔
Once again, an awesome product review by Chris👍
Très bien pensé cet Haversack M55, it's very cool! Merci à toi pour la découverte, see you soon!
Wasn’t expecting it to look like that under the front flap… cool design
It’s a cool copy of a Navy Corpsman M3 bag used by 8404 in service to the USMC

Exactly I used on durning Desert Storm 1/25 4th MarDiv

I really love this pack. I see all kinds of possibilities. 🤘🤘🤘
I'm thinking two, as saddle bags on a bike. Or, maybe, on the handle bars.
Wondered where you went , turned out I was unsubscribed not of my doing , thanks for your videos.
Very nice little kit bag.

It looks like a good way to carry a water bottle would be transversely between the compartment sections and tighten the strap to cinch it in !
One of us, one of us, gooble gobble one of us!😂
FREAKS!
Great job on the video Chris, reference the knife would you send to the UK or is it only the US cheers
It’d dangle, but you could use a carabiner and clip it onto the strap D ring
I bought mil surp ones cuz I liked them so much lol but this one looks way better. Less floppy and less likely to snag and rip.
love mine!
Another winner from Malcom!
He should add a red bag as i think it would make a great medical bag.
I second that

This is a haversack I really like.
Great vid chris!
It would be good for a gas mask?
😮 wow awesome bag!
Nice bag, but can’t afford this one. Can only afford the Polish Bread Bag 😊
Just found the channel…may just have to subscribe
May it serve US well
Will he make one that says ME? 😂
Cool bag design, kind of like a tool roll and haversack had a baby bag.
"This is for us" ...romantic!
That thing is pretty damn sweet.
Okay, it reminds me of the tri fold medical bag that I have, but bigger. And its WAY out of my price range.

It’s not a purse… It’s a satchel!🐺
Would like to see the shoulder strap twice as wide. Otherwise nice haversack!
That’s cool, if you lose 8 fire starters, the ninth one is still there for the emergency.
Tha “US” only goes so far until she takes it for herself 😂
Real nice
There are AT LEAST 17 of us sooo....
Don't forget the flashlight , duct tape & food....
155$ .. to expensive for me
cheaper than similar bags out there. if you need a bag, you buy a bag. if you don't need a bag. you buy the bag anyway :D
it's a Murse = Male Purse
That is an exact copy of the US Army's M3 Aid Bag but that $165 price tag is way too high.
