I was listening to FJM one day and a memory popped into my head. I went to see Fleet Foxes back in 2010 or something and met the band after the show. I shit my pants because I remembered I shook this man's hand before he was Father J!
What an incredible session. Josh Tillman is a great songwriter of my generation. Glad he took a step out and went all-in with his new album, Pure Comedy.
They're both absolutely incredible albums, for sure! My favorite song overall by FMJ is probably True Affection. I just really love it when artists take a stab at some of these "big question" themes which are all over the new album. :)
Total Entertainment Forever gave me the fucking chills. Even after I’ve probably heard this song hundreds of times. The way the performed it was absolutely flawless.
Are you a dog as well? Because that sounds like a valuation my dog would give if he could speak. But probably not to this, probably to some food or a female dog I guess.
In May of Misty’s 2017 tour my best friend and I saw him in for the third time in Vancouvers Stanley Park at the Malkin Bowl.We we’re off galavanting around the outlying forests, had a maaajor bathroom emergency- searching for what felt endlessly for a washroom the doom of potentially shitting my pants was becoming reality... just then we found a barbed wire fence and climbed into private property, incredibly there sat a port a potty awaiting in golden light (it was actually abandoned and horrible but the deed was done), feeling we had just overcome a great feat, we ate an edible and came upon a tree, cut like a totem with large initials JT carved at the top... at this moment we heard sound check through the trees. We began running furiously, laughing, climbed and hopped another fence and joined the lineup. Bought a T-shirt. Josh’s performance was incredible of course, humour and gratitude was very much alive in us. Being witness to his beautifully orchestrated set as sunset fell over Vancouver was a form of magic. As his show came to a close, he hopped off stage and walked off to the right addressing fans who monkeyed to the front and grabbed his body and rejoiced him. My friend and I stood where we were, just smiling, I suddenly called out to him among all of the screaming and rush, a clear and friendly “hey Josh!” To my surprise, he turned and acknowledged me. He said hello. And I handed him my water bottle with my Duncan at Trussell Family Hour sticker on it, asking him if he would be a guest of the podcast again. He didn’t hear me fully and clarified asking me if I wanted him to take a drink. I replied.... go ahead! you must be parched. It was a hell of a show! He said, you know what? I am. Took a sip, and thanked me. He answered my question with his usual wit, and after I thanked him again for his performance he shook my hand.
That's disgusting you tricked him into shaking your dirty poopy hands. Also I find it a little bit hard to believe that he was happy to drink a mystery substance you offered and from a mystery bottle.
your session cures my depression, your depression just makes me laugh, cry and get on with it - papa john, I do wonder what goes on in your head . . musicians have a special gift - making the people smile, laugh and just feel good for a while. No other skill/gift/ability in a human can do that - it is what sets humans apart . . I'd bet billy gates has no musical ability whatsoever . . ......

Ayayayayay owowow schweeeeee wooooooooo fuckn whoooo these is such jams, I hope fjm doesn’t disappear like tupac I’ll have to do a terrible impersonation
Has anyone felt that his performances beginning around 2018 aren't quite as emotive or done with finesse? He's also really ducked out of the public eye. Hope he's doing alright...
She looked at me and said "If you wanted something different, you would have different" I hate her. I wish I had never left Jersey. I hope somebody somewhere smiles, sings something beautiful.
the other day I decided to walk to the store. About halfway there a neighbors dog jumps out from behind a bush and onto the sidewalk, blocking my path. Growling and foaming at the mouth. The dog immediately went for my throat. I grabbed the dog a
It's curious, reading the comments here, that Misty's music just doesn't connect with me. I prefer economical lyrics that say just what needs to be said, whereas Misty seems to be trying to teach lessons with his lyrics at the same time he's trying to find the right words. Meh.
I personally love the sophistication of the lyrics. Not everything needs to be served on the plate for it. There's fun in figuring stuff out too if u know what I mean :)
he is pretty economical tbh. He isn't speaking in metaphors or anything complex... I just feels he has a little more to say than the regular rock act, which is consequential judging by his past in folk music. He is just writing poprock-level lyrics, to sophisticated themes. You can understand any lyric just by reading it, there's no hidden meaning behind anything.
you cure my depression with more depression *every time*

Holy shit. You met Josh without knowing it was Josh
What an incredible session. Josh Tillman is a great songwriter of my generation. Glad he took a step out and went all-in with his new album, Pure Comedy.
*the greatest
One of the best albums I've ever heard in the past several years for sure, it never lets up from front to back.
Birdie, tho
Pure Comedy is a great song. I think Honeybear is better though, song for song.
They're both absolutely incredible albums, for sure! My favorite song overall by FMJ is probably True Affection.

I love how after the intro he just said "folk rock" 😂
this man is such a genius, just love him to much
He doesn't have eyebrows, but it doesn't look weird.
Josef David fuck, now I can’t unsee it
I just found this FJM is one of my favorite artists so it's a delight to find intimate concerts like this.
the memo is just gold. wonderful performance
Counting down the days till I get to see him October 💕
could you IMAGINE seeing him in this small of a venue and listening to him crack the most dry wonderful jokes im fucking dying

Elliott Smith is one hell of a piano player...
He does look like Elliott Smith lol
Pianist here. Worth a million schmackos
Are you a dog as well? Because that sounds like a valuation my dog would give if he could speak. But probably not to this, probably to some food or a female dog I guess.
I just realize schmakoes might not be in your country they are a brand of dog treats.
His guitar strap is a seatbelt. Rad

Universal arteries connecting universe through time and technology to a million hearts to become one, he wiped his chin. 😎💙✌️

Awesome performance...
I need to know the context of that intro now
that har mar wink got my motor revving
He censored himself in The Memo, but then he said "I'll do Holy Shit"
Beautiful.
excellent!

I laughed a lot at that "uncalled for" verse he inserted into I'm writing a novel.
It’s the first line from T for Texas by Waylon Jennings
Fresh Cracked Pepper
In the midst of this corona virus pandemic, I needed some FJM.
"Have a good day, I guess?" Only FJM can end a performance and say that!!
Great performance and video. Gotta say though, the censoring is lame. It's art and the curses are kinda important.
Giant Spirit did you see all the baby boomers there? They’d feel insulted if someone swears in front of them

That Waylon verse tho 👌🏻
JOSH A FULL COAT IN JUNE?? ps: great performance
Concert's at the "Icehouse" ^ ;)
Does Current only bleep curses when he's singing? 33:08
The music edits were made by the music mixer (me) for radio. Any curses in between songs were edited by the producer before the program went to air.
Great! But why the hell do they have to mute all the curse words...!?' c'mon people
For radio.

uber-melancholy. in small doses it's great to wade in it but not to bathe in. the young emo need inspiration not validation.
Maybe for you, but some of us find inspiration in someone else's darkness.

not being snarky, just like hearing people's taste. who'd you say is better lyrically?
the lack of a reply must mean that they went and listened to FJM a little more and changed their mind lol
I personally love the sophistication of the lyrics. Not everything needs to be served on the plate for it. There's fun in figuring stuff out too if u know what I mean :)
Go listen to Katy Perry or Drake then. They say the same thing over and over.

I like some of your stuff, but this is biased. Be folk, not Post, Post modern Marxist. Please. I want to like you.
