Nice job on the interview and your new series! I changed out most of my shoes when I moved to Lisboa...Sketchers are working for me! Wonderful suggestion Robin but they have yet to meet so many other persons perhaps. They are still the “new kids on the block” per se. I love how the channel is changing and improving.
Loved this video! Wonderful to hear from a fellow Brit making it work. I wonder if she's a United or City fan?! :) Interesting to hear about supermarket choices. Our diet is mainly fruit and veg, plus fish, so I suspect we will be just fine. I cook in a lot of different styles (from Vietnamese to Indian, from Thai to Mediterranean), so a detailed scout around for different available food items will be fun for me! (To learn if I may be able to make my different curry pastes). I do tend to jump right to the small details, and I had myself been wondering about bed/sheet sizes. We had a standard double bed in the UK, but have now grown accustomed to our California King bed here in the States. Being so detail-minded, I had already thought I would pop into certain types of shops to see what's the standard (or available) for all kinds of household and food items - including sheets, ha ha. Part of the scouting experience for me! We applied for our NIFs on Friday - so, we're now in the 'process'! So looking forward to our discovery trip in just a few short weeks!
Bom dia Tracy, We are looking forward to meeting you in person. It's now just a few short weeks until you arrive for your scouting trip. As for some of your questions. Let's see the bed sizes are all different. I still have no clue how to be sure I have purchased the correct comforter size when I go to the store. It's a test. And I am failing it. But I try not to sweat the small things. As for cooking ingredients. You will have fun scouting all around. Indian food ingredients are going to be fairly easy to source because so many English travel here. As for Mexican ingredients- well we are going to have to start our own farm to grow hot peppers and cilantro. And corn chips, tortillas, etc. All of these things are not so easy to find. So the Americans tend to text each other when we find them. Have a wonderful day Leslie
We've been here for a month (on vacation) and haven't had much luck finding Indian spices - my wife tends to make all her own curries from scratch as I am allergic to garlic. We have not found any Mexican type foods here, so if anyone knows where to buy any please respond :)
@@christobar Thank you, Christobar! I make all my own Thai pastes, and have made several Indian mixes (chaat masala, Sambar powder, for eg). I wonder if I'm allowed to bring any methi leaves, or similar onto the Island? I'll try to find out, bc just bringing a small store cupboard of this and that would be a good idea for me - at least initially. I did hear somewhere that Lisbon has some Indian spice places. As for Mexican faire, as long as I can find decent dried chilies, (or just grow and dry my own!) or find some masa flour, I can make mole and other Mexican dishes/tortillas and tortilla chips ;) I am completely up for adapting to, and learning about, Madeiran and Portuguese food of course (I'm really looking forward to it) - and on the other hand, it is nice to have some comfort items that you're used to, but I'm not being unrealistic or ungrateful. This is a major life change about to happen to us (a great, new adventure!) I'm not trying to 'replace' my life in a new location - far from it! I simply love to cook, and have enjoyed food from all over the World and I love to experiment in the kitchen. I have no doubt I'll be happy in the food and cooking department regardless of what I may or may not find :)
@@tracychesney4303 Very good to know! We love Thai food as well, my wife was an exchange student to Thailand. I think that's part of the problem we're having with food on Madeira so far. They have some Italian food, and Madeiran food, and maybe some American/British food but not much else. We are very used to variety in the USA. Spoiled Us. :)

Manchester and Manconians, I know them to well, living in the UK and doing what I do for living, I'm bound to know this different places on the land of granny Becky, I like the way Fiona looks at life in my hometown, city of Funchal and of course the rest of the Island.

Would you be so kind as to explain the papers one needs. For example, your friend mentioned ‘Sif’? What is that, permission to reside in Portugal? I’m thinking of moving from Greece, where I have lived for many years and am now retired, to Portugal and knowing what all you talk about on your vids would be most helpful. Much thanks, Lisa

Allan thank you so much for all the info. Loved the way you are explaining things and subscribed gladly. We want to live in Madeira for a month just to see if we like the place. Is there any way we can check for monthly rentals. Any help is deeply appreciated. We lived in USA for 25 years mostly in Texas and NJ. We could not continue the rat race any more and want to have a calm and peaceful life. Thank you.
Boa tarde Vlmeda, Thank you for subscribing!!! We appreciate your support and kindness. We are also happy to hear you are planning a month long scouting trip. We actually chose to stay in multiple locations around the island so we could get a nice cross cut of experiences. We also rented a car so we could get around easily. Many people also plan a month long stay in one location and then drive or use the bus system to get around. The websites like booking.com, Airbnb or Verbo are perfect to find a place to set up your home base. Hope this helps Enjoy your journey Alan and Leslie
Good luck to both and wishing you both and all family all the happiness and good health. Enjoy your retirement in the sun. I was born in Funchal and I’m very proud and happy that others love that island. Stay safe and God bless Thanks for sharing your wonderful video. You have all your life to learn and adapt to diferente language and like you’ve said portuguese people are most likely to speak English and if not they’ll try and get someone to help. Enjoy, you deserve a wonderful, warm and healthier retirement 🍻 you’ll love the fresh bread and delicious cakes… ohh I’m hungry 😂
Yes the cereal not very diverse and the other thing is the croissants the Portuguese seem like them burned were in Sintra were I live all the croissants are burned . Do you have the same problem in Madeira also ? The only place that aren't burned in Minipreco .
Interesting video, thanks. Me being in the European union because i have a maltese passport but am a Canadian citizen, would my process be easier to move to Portugal? Thanks

I am going to plan a visit soon, I also have a dog I would need to bring. I do not want a car and would like to be able to walk or bike to cafes etc.
Thanks
Olá Scott,
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀
Come see for yourself.
I think you will find Funchal
A good fit.
Obrigado

Love your channel, would love if we could see more Verite footage. And see your interview with your friend instead of BRoll. Will make your channel much better.
Ola Sean,
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel.
It is all a learning process. Alan can't add lib. So the B roll is needed. Time will tell keep watching!
@@ItllBeFun ask him questions that will elicit the response you need. And when he has a conversation with someone just record it and edit out what is not needed. And cover with BRoll if needed. Sorry I’m a documentary Director so it’s my work. Your channel is great and will get better.
Manchester and Manconians, I know them to well, living in the UK and doing what I do for living, I'm bound to know this different places on the land of granny Becky, I like the way Fiona looks at life in my hometown, city of Funchal and of course the rest of the Island.
Olá Tony,
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀
It's nice to hear a different perspective.

Olá LZRD84,

Allan thank you so much for all the info. Loved the way you are explaining things and subscribed gladly. We want to live in Madeira for a month just to see if we like the place. Is there any way we can check for monthly rentals. Any help is deeply appreciated. We lived in USA for 25 years mostly in Texas and NJ. We could not continue the rat race any more and want to have a calm and peaceful life. Thank you.
Boa tarde Vlmeda,
Thank you for subscribing!!!
Hope this helps
Enjoy your journey
Alan and Leslie
Good luck to both and wishing you both and all family all the happiness and good health. Enjoy your retirement in the sun. I was born in Funchal and I’m very proud and happy that others love that island. Stay safe and God bless
Thanks for sharing your wonderful video.
Olá Gigi,
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀
And for your kind words.

BTN normally carries the Big10 and they are now part of Fox Sports, or FS1. If you have cable service, I would inquire if possible to get it.
