  • Today's video shows you exactly how to make a DIY industrial grid style mirror. I talk you through exactly what you need and the steps to take.
I have always loved this style, but they can be pricey so I thought I would give this easy Ikea hack a go using mirrored tiles, MDF and wooden battens. I am really pleased with the result as it only cost me around £50 excluding the paint and undercoat (which we already had).
I hope you find this helpful and please let me know if it has inspired you to make your own!
Thank you for visiting and please remember to subscribe if you haven't already :)

    TRANSCRIPT
Hi guys, so in today's video I'm going to be showing you how I've made my industrial style mirror.
Ok, so you'll need an MDF sheet, some mirrored tiles, some wooden battens, to go in between each tile, some undercoat, some paint and some glue.
These mirrors were from IKEA. You get four in each pack and they were £7 each.
We opted for 1 centimetre wide wooden battens to go in between each mirror.
Ok, so what you'll need to do first is to decide on the size of the mirror. We wanted ours to be quite large so we opted for three packs of the mirrors so that will give us 12 mirrors so we will have four in length and three in height.
Working out the measurements of the MDF sheet, I first of all worked out the length so I added together the widths of the mirrors plus the widths of the battens each side of each mirrors. So each mirror is 30 centimetres, there are four mirrors in length and there are also five 1 centimetre battens so this all added to 125 centimetres.
I then did exactly the same for the height, although this time there were only three mirrors in height and there were only three battens so the measurement added to 94 centimetres.
We then worked out the measurements of the battens. You will need to take into account the width of the battens that will be taking up some of the space on the MDF sheet.
I will link some of the materials that we've used in the description box below.
Ok, what we did first was we undercoated all of the wooden battens and the MDF sheet. We had this left over from our DIY panelling. If you haven't checked that video out yet I will put the link in the description box below and also at the top.
Ok, once that is all dry you can then paint the battens with the white paint or whichever colour you're going for. What I then did was I actually laid it all out to check that I had got all the measurements correct. I then removed all the mirrors and the battens except for one row, as I did one row at a time so if I needed to alter the measurements slightly then it gave me the room to do that. I then stuck down each mirror and batten one by one.
As you can see that's the first row done so now it's on to the second.
I did exactly the same for the second row, I laid it all out first and then one by one I stuck down each mirror and each batten. Make sure you press firmly when applying them to the MDF. For any excess glue, just wipe away with a cloth.
I did exactly the same for the third row and left it overnight to dry.
You can then fill any of the joins if you need to.
I hope you found that helpful. Please give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and please subscribe if you haven't already.

That's a really good idea instead of ruining a wall with double sided tape by installing the mirros directly on to the wall one can make this and just hang it up on a nail.

Great job very helpful. Do you think it's to heavy to be hung on the wall ? I'm planning to make one for my kitchen wall .

    • @linaash7424
      @linaash7424 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That varies. There are light weight MDF boards including battens, i.e you can opt for plastic to reduce the mass and simply paint over with your desired paint.
I will say this, the mirrors alone are quite heavy which in turn could cause the board to collapse - that is assuming there is no back support/inappropriate wall fixings to a large-extra large mirror.
It requires a bit of research but the physics should be simple.
