      You should definitely give it a try. Worst case, you end up flashing ArduPilot back on the FC. But, you may find you enjoy INAV too. Then can choose which is the best fit for each build.

    Great job on educating us how to setup these combined software's. I've made the arrangements to complete this process successfully. I have run into one challenge that doesn't allow me to trigger the waypoint in Inav. even though I have the home point as my takeoff location. INav shows that it loaded the mission and I have added a switch to activate the waypoint all looks good there, and RTH works as attended, but Inav doesn't follow the mission in the X-plane software what is missing?

    • @MrD
      @MrD  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The waypoint rules are the same as for a real flight. So the first waypoint has to be 100 metres (default value) maximum from the arming location.
      github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/master/docs/Settings.md#nav_wp_max_safe_distance I do not recommend setting this to 0.

      @@MrD Thank you for the reply. I Discovered that there 2 options for WP’s in the mode selection and I had the WP mission switched, when I should have had WP planner switched. After making the correction the WP started working. Mr. D, you do a great job explaining inav.
      I have a question that I need assistance on another matter. This is a friend of mine’s plane. what is happening is when switching to RTH and I also noticed on Cruz mode as well the throttle raises and lowers throttle 100% to 49% and will performs this way until switched off. I Discovered this in X-plane. This is what is happening in real flight.

    EDIT: if you're plugging in your daily driver aircraft that has DJI, be aware "OSD will not work if HD Zero, DJI or Pixel OSD selected in configuration". Original question: I'm getting an OSD error that reads "supported osd type not found or disabled"- any ideas as to what may cause this?

    • @MrD
      @MrD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to use the analogue OSD setting with HITL. I believe there is an HD update for it. But I’ve not looked in to it yet.

    So, as far as the transmitter is concerned, there is zero difference between you actually flying in this? as in full telemetry sent back to the transmitter? I ask because this would also be a super easy way to test antenna trackers.

  • @ayoaina_fpv
    @ayoaina_fpv ปีที่แล้ว

    Great stuff! Thanks Darren and Marc! One question please: does inav autotune work on this setup?

    • @ayoaina_fpv
      @ayoaina_fpv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just tried it. It appears that Autotune amended my Feedforward settings only, but not P, I or D. It appears to fly better, but I’m not sure 😂

    • @MrD
      @MrD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Autotune only changes Rates and FF. This is the same in flight too, not just in HITL. The standard PID is a decent baseline. But PID tuning is personal preference. You can make it as locked in or natural feeling as you prefer.

    Nice video, thank you. I have an FC on the desk with an RX and a bound TX, and I have setup iNav with a "fake" GPS. But when I try to Plugins->iNav-> Link->FlightController I get Connection Failed Any hints Darren ?

      Do you still have configurator open? You can’t use both at the same time.

    • @martr
      @martr 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the reply Darren. I did sort this in the end. A while back when trying to get passthrough to work with some FC, I found some instructions which advised changing the COM port number to 256. I have no idea why, but it did solve my problem. In the case of X-Plane. I checked the log file and it actually scans from (I think) COM1 to COM 30. And so it never found my USB/COM port that the FC was on. I renamed it to COM 25 and it all worked. That will teach me 🙂

    • @MrD
      @MrD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Totally not true, but thanks all the same 🤣
      No, I’ve not used HITL with ArduPilot. To be honest, I only have ArduPilot on one plane, and hardly use it. I would say try INAV first. It is easier to set up. To be honest, with how 6.0 files, the only real reason to use ArduPilot instead is if it has a feature you want to use that INAV doesn’t have. The only things I can think of currently are VTOL, terrain dats on board, and some of the glider modes.

      You may have the graphics settings too high. You need to be running at the fastest frame rate possible. These effects have been noticed. But unfortunately the only way to improve things is to turn the graphics detail down, so that the data can be processed faster.

    Is there a possibility to fly multicopters? This sounds like a very good idea!

    • @MrD
      @MrD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t believe so. To be honest, I can’t even remember if X-Plane has helicopters. Where it’s made for manned aircraft, there’s certainly no multirotors. But, Andreas is working on SITL, which will also work with RealFlight. So multirotors would be a very real possibility then. Also the physics would be better.
