Love the Southern Paddler Channel and host Dan seems like good folks! That's the kind of fellow paddler you want to be around. Paddling is all about getting away from the stresses of life and enjoying our earth! Recharge the human soul! Hello from East TN!
Love this, Ken! What a blast on a beautiful river. Thanks again for inviting me along and I hope we get to paddle again, soon! Until then I'm following along here! :-)
@@joshinfwtx4506 I'm no expert, but I will share what leads me to the Saluda: the features. If they all paddle very similarly, performance will be a hard metric to split them so for me, it comes down to cost, features, and availability. I am currently struggling between the Saluda and the Pungo myself because they're the two I can get at my local shop, and $90 difference isn't gamebreaking when you're spending $1,099 minimum. However, I really like the frame chair and the dash that you get with the Saluda so that's what I'm leaning towards. All personal preference though. If you can get to a shop and sit in both, that would be the most ideal way to figure out which is better for you.
Yahoo, 1st comment. Looking forward to more paddling videos this year. Can you look at doing a video geared towards paddling with furry friends/family. What a great trip this would be with your pup.
He was paddling a Jackson Riviera. It is interesting to look at and from looking at it riding so low in the water it looked like it was approaching it's weight capacity. You sit in a large bowl carved into the deck. No seat from what I've seen. You make your own out of whatever. Those who have it, love it, with only one regret, there are no scuppers. Unusual for a SOT boat. That would be a deal breaker for me.
Nice float in this video. It doesn’t look so treacherous like some of that white water you do. If you’re ever in East Tennessee we have the Tellico River around Fort Loudoun State Historic Park. Very nice too! You can paddle around the Fort Loudoun Island, around 5 miles. Super cool ranger Lauren would be happy to show you around.
Very comparable. It's in the same class as the Pungo 120, Loon 120, Tupelo 12.5... They're similar boats, with subtle differences. This one has a frame seat instead of the Pungo "Phase 3 Air Pro" (something like that). Hard to choose!
The Saluda is a kayak that doesn't make sense to me. It cost $1000+ which is approaching the price of much better performing touring kayak. It was basically a sit-on-top seat with none of the advantages of a sit-on-top, and all the disadvantages of that seat type. I guess it can compete with the Pungo, but looks cheap in comparison.
These recreational touring kayaks definitely aren't the right choice for everyone... but I actually really enjoy them. They paddle WAY better than 95% of sit-on-top kayaks, which is a huge advantage if you value performance (Although I just tested an exception to that comment). Their advantage over performing touring kayaks is comfort. The frame seat is more comfortable than a typical sea/touring kayak seat, and the freedom of movement is amazing. I can't go cross-legged in any touring kayak! The downsides of course... they're not nearly as versatile as a performing touring kayak (they're flatwater boats) and they don't self bail and you can't stand in them like sit-on-tops.
@@PaddleTV I agree that legroom is nice, but my experience is that people who buy kayaks like this, or the Pungo, have reached a certain level of commitment (because of cost) that almost always leads to a boat with thigh braces and hip pads. If they do buy a boat like this it usually lasts for a season or two before they are ready to upgrade and sell it. I once bought a Pungo for a new paddler. I was the 5th owner, and the boat was 4 years old. That paddler also upgraded eventually. I am sure there are exceptions though. Regardless, I enjoy the channel, and thanks for the great content.
Very nice!

Couldn't agree more! Just spoke to Dan this week and we're going to meet up this spring for a river trip again!.
Love this, Ken! What a blast on a beautiful river. Thanks again for inviting me along and I hope we get to paddle again, soon! Until then I'm following along here! :-)
Pete and Ken keep introducing me to lots of great guys. Now I've seen you in both of their videos and i"m going to have to check your stuff out too.
It was definitely a blast! Look forward to exploring more rivers with you down the road!
Looking forward to the Saluda review. I specifically interested in how it compares to WS Pungo and Jackson Tupelo.
I might need to do a side-by-side comparison of those three (and the Loon 120). They are all very similar... and all good!
@@PaddleTV which makes it so hard to choose between them.

You should try the Walkill river in New Paltz NY......killer scenery and much more
My bucket list just keeps on getting longer.
So does mine!
Thanks guys for another great river adventure. This is my way of paddling :-)
You bet! I could do rivers like this all day, every day!
Great video! Very proud of you Dan! Well done
Thanks Dan and Ken. Enjoyed that.
Glad you enjoyed it. Dan's the man!

Thanks, and thanks for the idea!
Amazing place. I love that area. I am from Alabama and it offers a lot of great kayaking/paddling in multiple areas of the state. Crow
fun to see you join up with River Kings recently
Yup! I can't wait to head back to your area. LOTS more exploring to do...
Great adventure! What was Dan paddling? Looked interesting.

Loving this tour of the Southern U.S., you should come to Virginia next. Check out Kayak Kevins channel for information..would love to see a pair up.

I actually paddled the Tellico about 15 years ago! It was beautiful! East Tennessee is a gorgeous area...
@@PaddleTV yes it’s 6 miles from the house- super convenient and awesome!
How would you compare that kayak to pungo.
