EDIT - The KOMODO can use the RED Link adapter to get USB-C.
**Looks at wallet**
Wallet : No.
😅
I feel your pain. It’s the same I feel.😂
Buy once. Cry once. I have been on RED for 10 years. I still shoot on my Gemini for production. I will be moving to ARRI for ROI & what 99% of agencies want to see on set. Biggest issue I see is the business model of RED.
Let's see what Nikon-RED will come up with...
That's definitely the video I needed thanks a lot! I watched it thoroughly and I think I've finally made my decision: I can't buy any of those since I'm broke
Thumbs up for the Spiritbox shirt 👍🏼
lol beat me to it!
As a VFX artist, I have worked with RED raw footage. It was quite easy to work with. As a filmmaker, I was excited to hear about the faster boot up time of the Komodo X. The only thing holding me back is the price at this point.
And maybe the fact that the company is building on lies, scamming and lawsuits for stuff they don't even own but trying to claim? 😂
@@Joshua_S All of these things you mentioned are not used for Filmmaking.
thank you for making such in-depth videos I learn so much from these videos!! im still learning about the details of codecs and there purpose but you've covered a lot that helps.
You’re all the greatest for these comparisons!!
Really good video breakdown on the lineup thank you.
I've used, but never owned Red cameras, and it sort of feels disappointing to see how the value of them seems to fall almost as quickly as a mid range cinema camera from Canon or Sony. When you compare that to an Arri camera for example where value and longevity is held for quite a while. It just feels a bit mad to see used high end models listed with say 150 hours on them, where a buyer must have lost more than £10k since purchasing new. It doesn't make me want to buy a Red, maybe I'm not getting paid enough, ha.
The RED Monstro cost 80k back in 2017 when it was released, and now you find barely used kits for under 11k. The Venice 1 came in the same year and held its value A LOT more, not to mention the Alexa Mini, which is 2 years older than the Monstro but still goes for a lot more. A flagship camera losing 85% of its market value in 6 years is a huge red flag (pun not intended) for anyone who wants to invest in buying
Since red has stopped supporting/repairing dsmc2 it is clear why nobody wants to pay much for them used. Would be an expensive door stopper.
@@gabrielmachadobsb That happens when your business is patents and not cameras. Anyway, komodos are very nice desing, and the only global shutter cameras with genlock in production (great for ICVFX). I also like that they bet on making s35mm cameras. I like the new RED better than old RED. Still not Arri and Sony.
@matadormartin You have some interesting points. For what it’s worth, for me as a writer/director/DP if I come across a camera that has an image aesthetic that I like, I try to keep that camera body long term if I can. I don’t provide production services for others. Thus I don’t have clients asking me to have a certain camera body on hand. If you do client work and they often ask for the latest camera body, I can see how resale value could be more of a concern in your situation. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. It appears that many people share your feelings on the matter.
Ma m'en wearing a Spiritbox long sleeve you got m'y respect
Awesome comparison guys, seriously love all your videos! I'd like to see an autofocus comparison between the DSMC3 cameras. I've heard the Komodo X autofocus is already better than the Komodo's, even with the latest firmware update. Definitely curious how they compare.
Considering the Komodo-X is almost the same price as an used Monstro VV, I'd very interested in watching a comparison of the 2
Great breakdown as always. Just to be precise @03:30 the original Komodo has also a 3.5mm headphone output.
So the X has only a USB C and mini XLR audio input as an extra I/O vs the OG Komodo.
Fantastic video as usual!! Also love the Spiritbox shirt 😎
Thank you so much! Fantastic job! I would love see a comparison between Blackmagic 12k and the Reds.
informative RED video thanks CVP
Still getting some mileage out of a Helium but the s35 looks tempting, especially as end to prop media reliance via CFe cards
Please create a video about your virtual production studio seen at 5:30 / 16:45. Would be great to see your thought about it. Or if you've already done video please share the link.
You guys are the best! Going tk be buying a Satchler tripod from your site soon and hopefully one day a RED kit!
Thank you for prescription and video 😊
I’ve watched this video so many times and just noticed the Spiritbox shirt. Nice!
Hey Jake! How would you rank the Panasonic Varicam LT in this mix up. I've been shooting with Varicam since it came out, but it's no longer supported by Panasonic, and I want to hop into RED eco system. I have a Komodo, in my testing Komodo doesn't come close to the Varicam in terms of color fidelity, dynamic range, etc. But Varicam is huge. Would appreciate any advices on which way to go. I am mostly shooting product to pay bills, but shoot narrative as much as possible.
Panasonic doesn’t support the VARICAM LT…..Are you sure about that?
I really like the red look but to me it soes not really look better than blackmagic image for much less money
Great Tshirt :)
Props to the Spiritbox t-shirt 🤘
thanks a lot 😍
For someone jumping into commercial work do you justify the cost of a Red Komodo X over a Red Komodo? Thank you for your insights:)
The amount of coffee beans you must have bought! 😂
Super nice video, as usual !🎉
Uh i hate those shots. I dont know why but they make me feel icky.
which dsmc2 system would complete best with the new lineup?
Please compare the Komodo-X to the F6-Pro
Too expensive for what it provides. RED is still far from ARRI and not that far from Blackmagic.
What about the Komodo X vs Raptor X and also, should we wait for a Raptor X S35 or Red being bought by Nikon, it shifted the whole game?
Which is equivalent to FX3?
I hope one day we'll buy a used DSMC2 for our students at the university, like a Red dragon. 🎉
Red dragon is DSM1. adorama has them available for very affordable pricing. Helium is DSM2 and Mosntro as well.
that new komodo backplate really fucking shattered how i shoot. i need to be able to throw this on a gimbal and hurdle stage structures at times. i love that they use the newer card, but not at the price. i just don't think overall the little improvements are worth the tag. the cards at least are more stable for sure. wondering if a mini v mount might JUST clear the rs2/3 gimbal arm. i like the locking mount i think the most. In general, I think this new model will help make the Og Komodos more affordable for people who already dreamed of owning that camera as gear heads sell it off for their remaining finance balances.
my Dragon
x still supreme
Mate, why their are two slightly hole on your battery😮
The v raptor Xl is worth the extra body space alone.
But at that price might as well just get a Sony Venice
but do you want to deal with that menu system....@@gabrielmachadobsb
Komodo vs. Komodo-X : For me the image quality difference between these is huge. The original Komodo image quality for me does not look like an “A” camera. The X for me is an “A” camera all day. There is such a big difference. - “So would you be homeless to buy a camera?” It depends. Which camera do I get? A Komodo? Then no. - A Komodo-X? Let’s talk about the details so that I can make arrangements.
Please explain? You seem to be the only that has said the Komodo doesn't look like a A cam.
@@contentm3893 I’m not sure if you’re asking what the term “A” camera means or if you’re asking why I don’t feel the original Komodo looks like an “A” camera based upon the quality of footage that it produces.
@@cobymarcum1442 Based on your comment that the Komodo doesn't produce A Cam quality footage compared to the Komodo X. First thing is the Komodo vs Komodo X footage doesn't show a huge difference. No one has shown a huge difference between the two cameras based on image quality. Please post link to back up you claim. They eye test doesn't lie.
Still no XLR inputs.
It boggles my fucking MIND that the og komodo used cfast 2. absolutely ancient tech
Can't wait for every camera to get compressed raw the day reds allegedly fradulent patent gets annulled / expires. Go get em Nikon. (Keep in mind they somehow hold a patent for the simple mathematical average of 4 green values, literally a + b + c + d / 4, thats redcode raw)
I'm watching this with my Sony A6300 in the other room watching TV. I feel so guilty.
The cheapest one😆
Answer: fx6
Na the red looks way better. Even the s5ii has a better image that the fx6.
@omenka eh fx6 footage looks good to me. Red footage almost looks like CGI or something.
Yes fx6, and it didn’t cost me 20k to use
@@PNWMOTION yes maybe. But for cinema production or low/mid/high budget commercial productions there are reasons to use a red or an arri.
@@omenka I live in Seattle and your 100% incorrect on getting high budget clients. Yea I am not going to make movies for Netflix with this thing if that is what your saying but 99% of us are never going to. I do very well with my fx6 as do many other people in the area and have never considered changing due to that fact I don’t need to and as a solo operation those types of cameras are just not realistic and would just set me back in my work flow.
buy a RED RAVEN
STILL STOKED ON MY KOMODO AND I'LL BE BUYING A USED MONSTRO. THE END.
Why does Komodo X have this awful blue/purple tint/cast to it in every single footage? :(
