It’s funny how Yamaha is single cylinder and brute force is dual but seems about equal I had a kfx 700 sport I hated that thing it killed your thumb because u was pulling 2 carbs u have to stop and take a break because of it I’m sure that one is same way
If you didnt get a new wheeler yet, I suggest a Honda. My dad has a '94 Honda TRX300 4x4. The motor has over 10,000 miles on it and the only things replaced were the maintenance parts (oil, tires, brakes, and occasional brake fluid flush). After 16.5 yrs, the original battery finally went and after 18 yrs the rear axle seal finally went. Got the whole thing tore apart, replaced bearrings/seals, and now it runs like its new again. Not to mention, its been drowned a few times and still runs fine.
The belts on a brute are not directional. I frequently flip mine around to increase life. If its slipping (and you were in low range) then you likely need to adjust your belt deflection and de glaze the bells.
I had both a 660 and a 700 Grizz and yes the clutches are great. However that wet one way sprag clutch is the weak link in there. If the belt is warm and clean and gripping hard the internal clutch will slip and when it does if not noticed immediately blows up BIG TIME and costs a small fortune to fix. All of these systems have good and bad points. It's the user that fucks them up
Yamaha Grizzly has a wet clutch CVT so the Grizz has Constant Tension on belt and the Kawa Brute Force has a Slip n Grip CVT. Under a heavy load the Grizz won't eat belts like the BF. Both are great quads, but I prefer the CVT of the Yamaha.
Xx_RaMBo _xX - these tug a war contests are fun to watch but don't prove much. Typically the driver with the heavier quad and/or more aggressive tires wins. Both of these quads are good ATVs IMO.
@rocketstreet I dunno about that. I had an '07 BF 750, and had trouble with it. Finally ended up seizing a rod bearing. In contrast, I've never had a problem with my Grizzly 550. Plus, the ride and handling are better. I will say the BF 750 IS much improved over the old design though. Did you notice the BF's tires quit spinning and smoke came out of it? That's probably from the CVT belt. Yamaha is known as having the best belt drive CVTs.
Mines an 08 and it's absolutely perfect. I've plowed snow with it six mths a year since new 72" blade and Rode in in the Northern Rocky mountains since new winter and summer. ZERO issues and still on the original belt
Ouch! for the Brute. I don't have allot of experience with other ATV's but do know that is One strong point of Hondas. have an old '99 450ES with mudlites from day One and pull on crap all the time. Still has the same drive train. But I'm sure I'd get walked all over in a race though
I wish they would make a big twin atv with a straight shift 5 speed tranny. No belts and no frills. Would be a unstoppable tank. I keep waiting for Honda to make a twin 900 or so with a gearbox 5 speed to out pull and out last everything else. But it never seems to happen.
Nobody will ever do that. Nobody likes to shift anymore, cvt automatics have everyone spoiled. Honda will still make ES and foot shift models but they'll never build anything that powerful.
Let me start this off too. My dads 94 Honda had mud water in the rear axle case and it ran like nothing was wrong. My grandparents '00 Honda had 2 qts too much of oil in it (my grandpa fucked up changing the oil) and it blew the rings out after awhile. The wheeler ran months on 0 oil, and finally seized. We replaced the head and now its runs fine again. My friends Grizzly and my other friends Sportsman both have all plastic front ends. Honda still rolls with steel frames in front and back.
I will note that several times I have meet Honda riders that have problems with there auto/manual shift and that is a problem on the trail. Also it's been proven by the ATV industry that Yamaha has the best/toughest drive train system in the industry.
I agree that Yamaha is a better all around machine and more dependable. If you want power then go with Polaris, Kawasaki, Can Am, or Arctic Cat. All the ATV's on the market including Yamaha have their strengths and weakness so it depends on what your going to do with your ATV. Yamaha is the best on the trail and worst in the mud. I'm not saying other don't have there strengths over Yamaha on the trail because they do I know that my Grizzly tips easily (shorter wheelbase). I could go on.
@CountryBoy7227 "Honda sucks butt"? Oh really?. Niether of these two belt driven junkers could even pull the other piece of junk three feet. Smell that burned belt? I do. Talk to me in ten years and we'll see if either of these garbage cans are still in the hunting camp. They will most likely be in the "for sale" ads or mechanic shop. You don't buy a Honda for today, you buy it for a decade from now. Other atv's can suck Honda's direct drive shaft. Now let's move on.
@LovingGlocks I like Grizzlys myself also. But on my Brute i've got 11k miles, almost 12. I ride about 100 miles on a weekend, and almost every day during the week, and I also drag a groomer for snowmobile and cross country ski trails in the winter. I got it new in 2005. Regular maintnece, a few quite a few sets of tires, and an engine rebuild around 4k miles. She gets up and goes like brand new. And I ride hard, like a typicall teenager. lol
Yes and when the Hondamatic fucks up and it will. Good luck "be saving" some cash for when that happens and it will. I see it all the time . My buddy owns a Honda & Yamaha dealer... Belts are WAAAAY cheaper to replace hell it can even be done on the trail when necessary.
@WKHalford actually he had it in high and not low. I pulled a jeep with my brute force and i have 28'' zillas and stock clutching i had it in 4x4 low and me and my friends cherokee tied up i pulled him a little bit and my belt didnt smoke cause i had it in low..
@midwesternoutdoors I'd say Grizzly, because it has more features. Such as a front locking differential and a low range, plus more storage space. Either one is a good ATV, but the Grizzly is my preference..
@huttoerik28 oooh. Dang I didn't know if you were pulling in High that it might screw the belt up. I pull in high with mine all the time... Mentally noted. thanks. haha.
Yes, Yamaha is good, but if you want an ATV that will last, buy Honda its the best machine out there! I have had a Forman and a Rincon and just recently purchased a Rubicon 520 Deluxe! Honda is not a sport bike and does have the power of some others, but they have all the power I need to trail ride and go on hunting trips, so how can I ask for more! If you want to have enough speed to fly, I suggest you buy an airplane ✈️ just my honest opinion!
Eh, I prefer Honda over everything considering I've seen and done a lot to the Honda we own. When I say this thing has gone through hell, it has gone through hell. Like seriously, gone through mud deeper than the tires, been through water up to the top of the fenders, and drove over anything in the woods. My friend has a Polaris 850, and the thing for being huge feels sluggish. My 2 other friends have a Raptor and Grizzly. The Raptor sucks, and the Grizzly is alright. Honda FTW!
+Tyler Nelson Yammy didn''t loose at all , are ya watching with your sound on ,they rolled back for a restart and neither won but I think the Brute blue something up ! ?
To the guy nut swinging Honda, I would rather have a belt drive that is just as reliable and a true 4 wheel drive with diff lock than a Honda 3 wheel drive quad. The Yamaha has more ground clearance as well. Yamaha is Honda's daddy!!!
Not so funny to read their comments though LOL most of them don't have a clue and are in all likelihood ridding their dads ATV. Yamaha,Honda,Can-AM like any of them even have a clue. They only like what their dad tells them to like.

Toss on some stiffer springs and heavier clutch weights and you wont have the slippage problem
Might need some more weight too

Grizzly is a fairly light quad more weight on the front would help it keep traction.
