I love the way Kevin keeps his eyes on the snake, constantly desensitising the head almost subconsciously to make sure his customers get an awesome snake. The respect, knowledge and love for all animals he has is godlike.
Brilliant video! I have a mainland Sunfire retic who is 2 years and 3 months old. I got her when she was 3 months old. I have fed her meals the juuuust barely left a lump on a biweekly schedule the whole time. She is barely touching 5ft now. I have seen videos of other people's 2 year old mainlands and they are all 3-5 time her size lol but she has never been a d unhealthy weight and has always been strong and active. It really depends on how you choose to feed them and what your goals are for sure. Breeders feed heavier typically and other private keepers feeder heavier cause they want them to get to a good size pretty quick. Which isn't always bad but I personally am a strong believer in slow growing my snakes. Great video!
7 days and 14 .. big difference. I have one that I feed every 12days for the first 2 yrs and change. Now, almost 3yrs I switched to 14 days and is just over 5'

Great video! Kevin always has alot of in-depth information that others don't include. I thought it was interesting what he said about cooling males causing testosterone levels to go up. Alot of people use that method in their breeding but I have never heard why before now. That Albino Goldenchild Phantom Stripe is my favorite! If I ever were to get a Retic I'd want one like that (but a Super Dwarf version)! The color is just so vibrant and warm!
I have a three month old female retic normal looking to have a similar size to your cow at her age. Her breeder said 1 rat pup per week is that a good amount to be feeding? First time owning a retic but my fourth snake. I’m so excited for this journey with her.
This video is what I've been looking for, for a while, it has answered a lot of questions and I associate with what you have said.. My male Burm is approx 13.5 to 14 ft, he's a baby, but definitely need3 2 people to handle. My Boa is 8ft, definitely the thickest set and more difficult to handle, my partner has no issues handling the retic on her own, no way can we handle the female boa on our own and is definitely a 2 person Job. My boa has a grip on her and will grip anything tight.. Retics are my favourite snakes for all the reasons you've mentioned..
I have a male retic that I absolutely love to pieces. He is wicked smart and the bond we share is humbling and awesome. When they trust you, they really are big puppy dogs (NOT a beginner snake tho) I have let a select few people hold him and even though he is very gentle with them, he always looks for me after a minute or two and look for hand to come back to me. Hell sniff around my cheeks and eyes and I’ve heard theories about why they do this but I’d love to hear from other keepers who experience the same thing. He has never shown any aggression or struck at me. Not even as a baby. (Got him at 3 months).

Where would you say the line is between “gunning” food for quick healthy growth as Kevin explained and power feeding? So for a baby retic what would be classed as acceptable feeding for quick growth but not classed as power feeding
For me personally I would say one food item that it is a little bit larger than the girth the snake every seven days would be for nice growth. Others would say twice a week, but I personally feel that that is power feeding. I think you'll get a different answer from everybody on this, but I personally do not want fast rapid growth even if it is to bring out a gene. It's unhealthy for the snake overall. Would you still be able to grow your retic to its max length potential in a moderate feeding schedule ( 1 meal / week) or that requires power feeding? At what age do they stop growing?

What do u recommend feeding full grown retics and how often? I have a 2 yrs old female platinum that's about 6 ft long. Ive been feeding her a large rat every 10 days. Her mother was about 19 ft long so I expect her to get pretty large.
I've heard everything from chicken to piglets and rabbits... just wondering what's best or should I mix it up (although I've heard chickens make their poop nasty)
I would say whatever you can get readily and be consistent with. Something that's going to put a lump in the snake. You could also feed multiple items to get there as well but record yet annoying throwing in 10 rats at a time haha.
What do you do with all of the babies? I would just think the infrastructure for several hundred retic eggs a year would be difficult to maintain. Do you just sell of the majority of the babies quickly?
I just received a 10 months old female retic (lavender albino) and she's 4 feet, light as a feather. She's so tiny I thought she was a hatchling 😭 is that normal??
I want to get a burm but im so hesitate im sacred of the size they get i looked at dwarf but i hear its 50/50 rather you get a dwarf good video thats what im doing befor i step up local breeder post tonlet me help him with his big snakes but hasnt went through yet though
So I have an african rock python and im having trouble finding info on their growth rates. 1st of all, just for perspective, My 7 year old male retic is 10ft and 20lbs. I'm not someone who powerfeeds.... but for some reason my afrock is 7ft and shes not even 11 months old. Her last meal was just a large rat (not xl or anything) and she ate that 2 weeks ago. I don't feel like im overfeeding her, and shes very lean. Much leaner than my burms in bodyfat. I'm just confused by her growth. I also have some 14 month old burms who are fed the same meals at the same frequency and they arent even 5ft yet. Is this normal?
Is it true that you can not starve your animal but never make the lager jumps to keep the size down? Still feed it consistently but not large meals. Will that be uncomfortable for them? I’ve also read that slightly hungry animals and humans tend to live longer in the long run (humans are not cold blooded I understand that) but humans love to feed things themselfs ect constantly
I'd say that is correct. You cannot dwarf a snake from undedfeeding. If anything, you will just shorten their life and/or make them grow slower. Certainly there are nutrition issues that will arise from underfeeding that may stunt their growth, but definitely not a good thing.
Not even huge snakes my 5 year old male BP about 4.5 close to 5ft snake just tightened up a little too much around my throat while exploring and had to yell for help because i had about 10 seconds before my lights went out. And this is a puppy dog tame like would let a toddler hold him. Just was doing his thing and not being malicious just a silly noodle but like kevin said they have surprising strength.
my first snake was a retic when i was still in elementary school. we bought her because the seller recommended her to us, and we just bought it, also because retic is pretty cheap in my country (i got her for 25$). and after like 3 months we decided that its best we give back the retic because she still getting nippy, and we just thought that theres no way that a retic can tame or socialize with humans like what kevins snake does.
I love the way Kevin keeps his eyes on the snake, constantly desensitising the head almost subconsciously to make sure his customers get an awesome snake. The respect, knowledge and love for all animals he has is godlike.

Kevin has a 14,000 sq ft facility just for keeping, raising, and breeding reptiles.
Wassup Jason would you ever get a retic or had one ?
I’ve had them in the past. Ultimately they are not legal in many places and they just get too large.
Go to 1:07 to be able to actually hear them. Background music way too loud
Hey Jason, what made you decide to get out of the retics?
I just received a 10 months old female retic (lavender albino) and she's 4 feet, light as a feather. She's so tiny I thought she was a hatchling 😭 is that normal??
I'd have to see, but sounds like she should be a little larger than that.
I want to get a burm but im so hesitate im sacred of the size they get i looked at dwarf but i hear its 50/50 rather you get a dwarf good video thats what im doing befor i step up local breeder post tonlet me help him with his big snakes but hasnt went through yet though
Best thing to do is what you are doing. Work with the few before you actually purchase one to see if you can or cannot handle them
A great video 👍
Thank you
So I have an african rock python and im having trouble finding info on their growth rates.
Jason ✌🏼 KEVIN 👍🏼
Can't beat the pieds 😂there's some amazing animals in this vid, wish I could spend the day there haha
How much do those BEL Retics go for?
If your on Facebook please check out reticulated python morphs uk. It's a group for reticulated python enthusiasts to enjoy anything retic related 👍.
1:17 he dropped the baby snakes baby! I’m traumatized lol.
Haha it was an elastic
The white male that you pulled out before that was really cool too
Just incredible snakes--glowing yellow-orange and others exactly like cowhide/calfskin. Not to mention the other beauties!
I love this thank u jason
Thank you for watching!
Thank you I learn so much for handling feeding instructions. I appreciate all you do. Nice looking snakes.
Thank you!
beautiful Pied
thank you!!!
my first snake was a retic when i was still in elementary school. we bought her because the seller recommended her to us, and we just bought it, also because retic is pretty cheap in my country (i got her for 25$). and after like 3 months we decided that its best we give back the retic because she still getting nippy, and we just thought that theres no way that a retic can tame or socialize with humans like what kevins snake does.
Retics are great snakes and can be awesome pets. Based on your price I assume it was a wc import.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles yuupp, and i regret i didnt do any research before getting one. but im definitely gonna get a boa soon
