I’ve owned every major system that has come out since the late 80’s aside from some of the handhelds, PS3, the OG Xbox and a few smaller ones like the Jaguar and 3DO if you consider those a major consoles. I absolutely love my Series X , it has exceeded my every expectation. I honestly feel like it’s the most consumer friendly system ever made. Everyone has mentioned the backward compatibility but the new life it breathes into 360 and OG games with auto HDR and higher resolutions it really has to be experienced to realize how impressive it is. I love it.

@@guyverjay1289 nope I skipped ps3 between already having bought a DS in 04, a 360 in 05 and a wii in 06 plus the overpriced rockband bundle the nagging wife that was sick of me spending money on video games and a ps3 would have been the last straw. Also it was not a knock on the PS3 I would have loved to have had that system, but life happens.
U can always get it now and u can probably pick up stacks of games almost for nothing. I bought 65 ps3 games for 50 dollars 2 years ago on Ebay. Was lucky lol

Absolutely. The people who complain excessively and get angry about everything that isn't perfect just aren't on the same wavelength as me, and can be hard to listen to. Metal Jesus keeps it cool and is good at picking out the good things, not just the bad things.

The coolest thing about next gen is having backwards compatibility back and just revisiting your favorite last gen games with better load times or improved framerate.
Still on 'Xbox One S', but that backwards compatibility is amazing! Love "Panzer Dragoon Orta" on Xbox One.... it looks so good and plays so perfectly! :-)
It's cool and all. But it's something that's been available and enjoyed plenty on the PC side for decades. If thats one of the big draws of this Gen, it ain't working for me (same with SSD, had that a while too). The problem for me is that none of the games really use the new hardware. MS is demanding that for now all games released for Series X must work with the original console from 2013 as well and be functionally the same . This really ties the games down. It amounts to the Xbox Series X versions just being "prettier" variations of what I can play on my existing machine. I want games that truly use that machines ability. Something that CAN'T be done on the older consoles. Until they release those, I got no reason to buy into the new generation.
Ya it’s nice but there is only 40 original Xbox games backwards compatible. I can’t even play my 360 F.E.A.R games or prototype. I can’t play original manhunt, chronicles of riddick, mechassault, hobbit etc. They need more they promised more.

I just gave my cyberpunk away to some little kid on my street who wanted it..it's like a horrible GTA and I had to pay 80$ for it too cuz they only had the bundle..I got a ps 5 and I still think it's horrible..back to Assassin's creed valhalla which is awesome..should of just beat that first anyways..I was going to trade it in but you only get a whopping 22$ or something at GameStop..ahh I made the kids day..I just don't care for it even with out the bugs

I keep old games (Xbox One) on a USB SSD drive and save internal storage only for Series X games. Works for me.
All small games or games that have not huge loading goes on external hdd. No problem with that.
I do the same, Charles. Using a 2TB external drive as a pack mule, then transfer games back and forth as they move in/out of the rotation. Fast and easy
@@CraigCrowder That's the best way to manage space. I usually put all games on external by default and if the loading times annoy me, I move them to internal.
Same. About 8 games on the Series S SSD (way more than a couple), over a 100 on the external. I'm perfectly happy with it and not at all tempted by the expansion card.
Yeah I literally bought a 2tb HDD for my PS5 just to hold all my PS4 games
Giving my nephew a Series S for Xmas and pre loaded some games for him, about 8 games installed and only 120gb left. Bought him the Seagate memory card also
He will remember that.

I only buy physical games AND I'm running out of storage space with the mere updates the physical games require LOL
Physical games basically install into the system too so it's not just the update it's the actual game too.
Keep in mind this. Many physical games, when inserted, will still DOWNLOAD its contents as opposed to install off the disc. I took, I believe Dirt 5, and inserted the disc into the system. The Xbox Series X installed 3 GB off the disc and then proceeded to download 60+GB in data and updates. I uninstalled it and then disconnected from the internet. I inserted the disc and it installed 27+GB off the disc. When I connected back to the internet, the system then only downloaded about 35+GB off the internet for data/updates. It seems as though the system would prefer to use downloaded assets rather than disc assets during the install.
Physical takes up just as much space as digital. Everything installs, nothing plays from the disc.
@@Coztomba Yes, after you install the game the disk is only there to basically be used as a digital download code, proving that you own the game.
@@Coztomba Correct, but the source of the data install varies. For those with data caps, it might be better to install off the physical media (disconnect from the network) rather than staying connected and having the 40+GB downloaded.
I never had any xbox system ever, I'm really enjoying game pass my backlog just went up by like 90 games

Yeah...Game Pass is an incredible deal; go with Game Pass Ultimate though, and save money, and get more from it! Game Pass.......... SOOO many 'free' games just waiting to be had! :-)
The only person a series X makes sense for is someone who never bought an xbox one and has never had game pass. Exisiting xbox owners aren't going to find much to get excited about until Microsoft actually releases some of these "50 billion" exclusives they have been taking about for the last 5 years.
I had a 360 at its height, only because everyone at work was on live playing MW2. Over the next few years I went back into PC gaming and chased that dragon. I just picked up a used 1st gen xbox one and game pass to hold me over until this holiday PS5/Xbox drama is over. Loving game pass though. Love and collect physical games but love that I can download games and try them at my liesure. If I like them, I will buy the physical.

Unfortunately I feel like the PS5 is already quite far ahead. I hear people who aren't gamers talking about it at work, my family have spoken about the shortages and how "in demand it is" and generally it seems to just have a lot more visibility.
It's a shame as the series X looks like a fantastic console. Personally I just think it needed a snappier name and some sort of killer launch exclusive. Those two things have really hurt it although it's early days yet and the platform is great clearly!
Xbox and Ps5 doesn't have anything to play right now, so there is no point to get one.... Demon souls is not a console seller for sure right now
apart from having no exclusives, I really think the name of the console did hurt it the most. It’s incomprehensible how a billion dollars company like Microsoft couldn’t come up with a better naming scheme.

I think once the dust settles, people will start to see the longevity of each console, the Xbox has delivered on each of its promises, whilst the PS5 still is yet to open up M.2 expansion and produce a Game Pass competitor.
It also uses liquid metal which is not known for lasting long at all. With how many replaced their 360 for a PS3 when the RROD happened, a similar thing could easily happen to the PS5 and bring more to the Xbox side
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 Until Microsoft actually bring out some new games I really doubt that will happen. Game pass is great but the market lives and dies on big exclusives and MS is lightyears behind in that department at the moment. Much work to be done!

One of my favorite things its running games on the series x that had an unstable framerate on one x. Monster Hunter world plays in the resolution mode at 60 fps,looks beautiful and smooth as butter. Same for sekiro and SW Fallen Order, its great finally able to enjoy these games with a rock solid framerate and the highest resolution possible for the console version.
I would like to get one someday for the amazing backwards compatibility. Especially for OG XBOX.
The backward compatibility for the (OG) XBOX is really bad though. Only a very few games are supported...
I would like that for myself too! I heard they optimized the games for it to run smooth as well!

I picked up a One S last year- even on that the backwards compatibility is excellent (SSX3 in HD is my favourite thing)

@@THL_Jontae what exactly do you love about it? the story is pretty great, but that wasn't enough for me to continue playing it unfortunately, the random battles and the boring battle system killed the game for me (as MJ says)

@@joshe272 I just love everything about it, it has so many different things and activities and stories going on to keep it interesting to me, I’ve found all the sub stories which are basically side quests interesting, it has so many mini games and side activities that break up the game and give you incentive to play them. I genuinely like all the characters because they’re not just all cookie cutter good guys they’re characters with depth, I enjoy the business management side game that could be a game in itself and gives you an additional party member and cash and rewards for actually playing it. I will agree the combat isn’t the strongest part of the game but I actually enjoy it and as one cog in the whole machine that is this game I think it still fits. This game has so many different parts all working together to create one whole experience it’s amazing. The graphics are good, the music is good, the setting is good it’s just unreal to me oersonally
It's easily my GOTY. Such a unique setting for a classic JRPG.
After having the Series X for over a year, I found it useful to have an external hard drive around to keep the non-optimized games ready to play while not using up the internal storage as much so its available for the Series X games.

I just beat Yakuza 7 last night after 90hrs. As far as the random street battles go, I just 'ran away' from the weaker thugs in later hours of the game or simply equipped the item that makes all street battles disappear. Leveling up your party can be done in a variety of ways outside of the random street thugs. Also, part of the charm of the battle system is also experimenting with all of the different "Jobs" (character classes) you can give each character. Trying different combinations and creating a whole new different dynamic to your party was amazing and kept me hooked. I had Ichiban at about level 73 when I finished it last night and had maxed (+lvl30) at least two different classes with each character.

I think you can go into the system settings and disable some of the advanced haptic options.

I stumbled on to some stock on walmart's website this Tuesday and decided to buy one. I've never had any xbox machine in the past so knowing a good amount of older games work on them was enticing. Very helpful video to know what I can expect. I do have a PC and PS5 so storage shouldn't be too much of a big deal for me but definitely something I'm keeping an eye out. Once you get the job system it really varies up the combat in yakuza like a dragon. And for me it has the best story in the series. Loved every minute of it.
The story in Like a dragon made me tear up several times! Defo an amazing game.
Spotted a fun little anachronism in the CoD footage: in the bar, it says "Happy New Year 1981," and there's a guy playing Barnstorming, which released in 1982. But hey, it's an Activision game, it's neat that they would reference one of their old games there.
You can play that game and tons more Activision 2600 classics in the Arcade level of the single player campaign.

I love Yakuza Like a Dragon! The combat is heavily inspired by Dragon Quest, where it starts super grindy and tedious, but then opens up as you level up, get better gear, and progress more in the story. The amount of random battles feels like a tad too much, but since there is so much style to the fighting, I still enjoy it.
Up to you if you want to stick it out, but I think it's worth it for the story alone. I don't think I've ever been so engrossed in a video game story before.

Great video! Storage is expensive! I think its crazy how big those games are and how much space we get. That extra 1TB was worth it for me, I was super impressive with the speed. Anyway, just wanted to show support and drop a comment!

I've been loving my Xbox Series S. I haven't owned an Xbox since the 360 and been loving the backwards compatibility on some games. I mostly play retro style/indie games but have a few AAA releases here and there. I do have a Seagate HDD but need to get an SSD someday. I was PS4 last gen but decided to go Xbox this gen due to bc and game pass.
The S is a fantastic machine. But I just got a series X because it was at MSRP and I have a collection of Xbox 360 and OG games I want to play.

MJR appreciate the honest reviews and content, from personal experience it seems like it's best to wait for some type of console mid-cycle refresh and as of late - wait for games to go on sale, that way the patches, etc... have already come out. The price on that 'expansion' storage is quite high.
Well he cant because of the nature of his show but we can. I'll be waiting for the next version of the PS5 for the Sony exclusives while I stick to my PC for anything else and Xbox games.
And yeah, those are severely overpriced SSDs IMO. I just threw a 2TB pcie4 M2 nvme in my pc for the same price.
I really really suggest you play final fantasy 15 on it! The 60 FPS makes a huge difference(:

Nile Rodgers - Final Fantasy used to be my favorite franchise. I loved every one except 8 and 10. I couldn't even get through the tutorial of FFXV.

On My Way To 9 - I didn't like FFX because it was too linear. I didn't play FFX-2. People that like FFX seem to love FFX-2, however. I freaking love FFXII. The combat system is different but once you get used to it, it's fun.

MJR is one of the few people I know that plays Call of Duty for the solo campaign
I did as well. Was never a huge fan of COD's multiplayer.
The reverse issue here, we have the new PS available in my town but can't find any Xbox Series X's as of late.
Buy a ps5, trade for an Xbox, lemons into lemonade haha
One thing you gotta remember about the storage is that kids have grown up with mobile devices so removing something in order to install something else to play is something that they've been dealing with their whole life. MJ is coming from a place where he grew up with physical copies and is used to having everything he bought right there.

I have a series x and Personally I just cant go back to normal external HDDs after going trough now many games with SSD speed. Everything feels just smoother
Loading games through USB ports was already unacceptably slow two Gens ago. SSDs have become so cheap. I just got a 2 tb NVMe for 149
All games that are Series X/S and even Xbox One games that upgrade to a Series X/S version of themselves must be installed on internal SSD or that SSD card in order to run. I have a large collection of Xbox One games that upgraded, such as: Gears 5, Master Chef Collection, Forza Horizon 4, Mortal Kombat 11, Borderlands 3, and more. Each upgrade from these games to add all the new Series X enhancements is an additional 60GB to 80GB on top of their initial file size. Then you take into account the massive file size of new games built for the Series X and you run out of memory fast. I bought the SSD card after filling up the internal and I've already got 70% of the card full too. I have 2 USB hard drives (a 2TB and 4TB) for older games that don't require the SSD speed and they are both nearly full as well.
@@pryan609 I don’t really understand this. You couldn’t possibly play that many games in a single week. And it takes less than 20 minutes in almost all cases too download a game, why have EVERYTHING always installed, keep your main daily plays and download others when you want to mix it up.

Forza Horozon 4 is truly a technical showcase on the series x. Beautiful game, even in the winter season, cant wait to see it in the speing

Yeah it’s the Forza stuff that has me really wanting to upgrade as soon as I can next year. I love the co-op play in Forza Horizon games.

Great video! I do have an Xbox Series X. I am loving it. Currently playing Cyberpunk 2077, Yakuza Like a Dragon, AC Valhalla, and Watch Dogs Legion as my primary story-based games. Rotating multiplayer games as well. So many games to play and not enough time. I have only put in about 10 hours into Yakuza, but really loving it. I can see where the random street fights will get annoying though... but seeing the SEGA arcade in town is incredible.
I mean, Yakuza, the fun was the fighting and i hope so much, they bring it back as a brawler
I agree. Too much strategy for combat compared to over the top brawling In previous games. But still enjoying it overall
@@andrewleiser7539 Sure, but it feels strange. i mean the encounter by them self was like a rpg and well, but it is a game more to be like Double Dragon and Cadilac Dinosaur for example. It just feels distracting. Everything else is like the regular games. i just have a idea, why they really gone that way and it was to introduce more players in a fight, but didnt handle it well in that enviorment

Hey man i love your videos justa small critique I have though. The audio from video to video is so different sometimes and could use better balancing. You may have a reason for this for instance maybe some videos you are picking up outside noise you dont want and if thats the case i understand but i just wanted to let you know in case you werent aware and keep up the great work

agreed, I'm getting tired of the constant headlines about why I shouldn't enjoy it. The situation sucks for last gen and even then the bugs need to get fixed on current gen, but I still don't think it should affect my enjoyment of the only competent console version out there
@@HKgaming86 I agree with you that you should be able to enjoy it and play it as you want, and good to hear you are enjoying the experience. That being said, the game is still a pretty bad console port, and even in new gen hardware it looks like a 360 game. I got a refund on my series x.
I just stopped by Target to get a physical copy of it on PS4. I don’t like SONY telling what I can or cannot buy. Just want to check it out and see what all the fuss is about on a stock PS4. If nothing else it’ll be an amazing party game when we get back to being able to do that. Have my original Kinect XBOX and will try it on that as well. If I like a game I buy ALL releases on all platforms and play them. I endured Darklands and Twilight 2000, I will get my moneys worth.

at this point i think waiting for mid gen consoles is the only real way to go. when a lot of the big titles are fully patched, when prices drop, when more features are included with the consoles, and the things people dont like get removed, that's the prime time to buy tbh. Just my opinion though.

Great video. I have a 1TB external SSD hooked up to my Series X. Cheaper than the expansion drive and it runs all of my BC games almost as fast as the internal drive. So far so good.
Love the content bro. I still haven’t been able to get a PS5 and just wanted your opinion because I have had the chance to get a series X a few times. This generation I want to stick with only Xbox or Sony would I really be doing myself that much of a disservice to settle for a series x? I have the OG Xbox and really only use it for gamepass but I’m big on physical game collecting. Just curious on your thoughts if you have to only have 1.I have a switch which I use constantly
