  • Although spoke covers bring some bling to the bike I recommend staying away from them and here's why.

    I use these on my crf250 but coat the spokes with acf50 before installing them.
    12 months on No corrosion.
    Happy riding.

    Are those stainless spokes?

  • @jokly1264
    @jokly1264 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see staining left by dried, dirty water...not dangerously corroded spokes as suggested. What's the original spoke diameter? What's the current diameter? I'd bet there is virtually no change. Those spokes are likely 304 stainless steel. Keep it away from salt and it'll last decades.

    • @TepcoCycleRepair
      @TepcoCycleRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not "dangerously" corroded yet but definitely corroded. I understand your point but mine is why take the chance of a spoke breaking at the worst time. I think spokes are a very overlooked maintenance part of a bike. Stainless can most certainly corrode under the right conditions. Thanks for your input!

  • @maddielewis2357
    @maddielewis2357 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you got it mixed up Bro.....The spoke covers will protect the spokes from a lot more than they hold in! If they are put on properly they won't let a great deal of moisture in....but yeah...definitely clean/dry and replace if necessary.

    • @TepcoCycleRepair
      @TepcoCycleRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen way more damaged spokes from uncared for covers than bare spokes. I have a 19yo bike with clean bare spokes, it doesn't seem like anyone takes covers off and cleans the spokes. Then if any sand gets in the covers..

  • @turbompson4546

    So because some owners have the lack of proper cleaning and or maintenance, your suggestion is to not use the spoke covers ...... How about just properly maintain and clean your bike ???
    Proper cleaning and maintenance is a must for any tool 🤔.

    • @TepcoCycleRepair
      @TepcoCycleRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but to properly maintain these they would have to be taken off after each ride to remove trapped sand/water. Or at least every few rides, and also rinsed out before reinstalled. Like remember car bras? You were supposed to take them off and clean wax you car underneath to prevent damage..almost no one did and they wore through the paint. The new bra is the clear wrap to "protect" the paint, those have a life span and need to be removed/replaced. No one does that, they dry crack and ruin the paint instead.
      So I hear your point but to properly maintain these doesn't seem like it can be done easily.

    I've read that you can seal them tight by applying heat. They act like heat shrink and keep moisture out.
    I have no experience, but it would make sense.

    • @TepcoCycleRepair
      @TepcoCycleRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are split longways to get them on the spokes so dont think that would work.

      Grease would probably attract dirt. Something like Maxima SC1 dried and wiped or a coat of wax would be better. Any type of non stick protective coating would greatly help.
