So cool you restore these! Such a useful, well made tool. My grandfather Roy owned Masterform and Plierench when I was very young. My earliest memories are being at the factory in Bensenville, IL. I have an old Dukane film strip projector 50's era Plierench used to show, "Plierench, the most useful hand tool in the world" on, narrated by "Patsy the Plierench Gal", in classic 50's trade show style. My father, uncle, brothers and I still have and regularly use the old Plierenchs. They do not make them like they used to is an understatement with regards to this tool. Really made me smile to see this history and appreciation living on.

Hello Adam! Can you believe I had to cut out a couple sections! My iPhone wont let me upload videos longer then 15 minutes to youtube! I tried to upload the video to the PC but it was taking forever! lol I had a clip where I showed how the cutter worked on the wrench! Funny thing is that the cutter wasn't well designed and would always wind up pinching your finger giving you a blood blister!! LOL Every time!!!! Thanks very much!!!!

Hi Wyatt- I didn't know how much of a difference there was until I got the newer one! It is like a whole different wrench! The good news is there are thousands of older wrenches available at any time still... The old one feels like it was made to last forever!!! You can see the mill marks and quality of that good old steel!!!! Thanks very much!!!

There is absolutely no substitute for quality.The steel used in pre WW2 tools was of such a higher quality it's not even a contest.....great video as always cheers mate

Here's what I'm betting....I'll bet that when you get into a restoration that hours go by and it feels like minutes!! There's a "Zone" that you get into that is like a time warp!! Yes shellac is hard to come by! I'm an electrical engineer and I work in a factory that builds power transformers. We have at least 100 Record vices I reckon! I'm currently on the look out for a North Bros Yankee screwdriver for my tool collection.

ScoutCrafter thank you for the reply! I need to get a belt sander to get my tools looking like yours do when you're done. Doing it by hand isn't going to work out very well. I might have to for some. If I don't do any sanding is it possible to get the tools to a mirror finish by using just the steel brush on the bench grinder and a buffer? Also does coating the tools in a clear gloss finish spray paint actually stay on the metal to protect it from rusting? I feel it would come off easily once put in a tool box or once the tool came into contact with other tools. Sorry for the questions I'm just starting to restore some tools and want to get to your level eventually. My son who is 8yo likes helping and seeing how they come out after. Hello Lord Venger! Believe it or not I have had very good luck with eBay for tools, especially if you buy in "lots". Many times there is always a really good tool thrown in with some junk... Also garage sales and flea markets but the best is antique Tractor shows!!! Thanks very much!!!
When I was working I would of loved a set of these but I've never seen anything like them . The Nearest I've had was a locking adjustable jaw can't remember the make sorry could of been mole wrench but kreg make something similar now but the jaws are a lot longer still very useful I have 2 or3 different pairs .thanks so much for the video as always very interesting

Mine just came in the mail. Bye bye $21. The screw driver on it punched a hole in the box it shipped in. I reckon you could carry it around as a self defense weapon for that reason. Can't wait to restore it.
firm believer in old, American-made tools are WAY better than those made today; even those still made in the U.S.A. some of the new ones are good. but most of those old ones are still kicking around simply because they were built to last a lifetime. and then they wound up lasting several lifetimes. if i can find an old U.S.-made tool, i'd much rather have that and clean it up to use, if i can. excellent video on a very cool tool with a unique design.

They didn't build things to last 10 years they built them to last forever!!! I love things that are overbuilt and well built! This wrench is a real good example of that! ive noticed it with screwdrivers, i have some philips and pozi drives from the 70s, still going strong, made in the UK, anything ive bought made in china, they wear out in a year!
what about knipex,wera.wiha,felo. Knipex is a german brand and is 150 years old pricey but quality. The rest is also german but the are mostly screwdriver brands quality all the way have my knipex cobra`s for over thirty years now still as good as day one, don`t believe just look at some reviews this goes about every brand mentioned in this comment.
Justin Van Mierlo anything german french even made in spain is very good indeed, but they dont seem to be common in the USA which has dozens of brands which are sold everywhere, im in the UK and german tools are the go-to now, seeing as the UK stuff is no longer made, knipex are the best modern pliers its true and german screwdrivers excellent too, only recently can we get the japanese brands and not just the rebranded stuff we used to get before the chinese swamped that market, and their stuff, albeit very traditional design, is very good too.
Scout we do not mind long videos. 16mins is not bad. Plus we are all stuck in the house we ain't going nowhere :P. That is a very interesting wrench. You be safe out there scout stay safe stay healthy thanks Scout. It's so quiet everywhere it's like the walking dead or something

Some of those old tools are quite collectable! The Auto maker wrenches especially are sort after by many car collectors... Even if they aren't worth any real money it's awesome to just clean them up and keep them as mementos! =) Great stuff!!!!

I have 5 one new one from NOPAK, one that was produced by Vaco plus an older one probably from the 40,50s with the price on it that was given to me by a dear friend. I've recently aquired 2 of the 'Flash' tools, one with the original case but no extra jaws and another with no case but 3 jaws. Also got my hands on the booklet/manual for the Flash ones and am waiting for the angle screwdriver and what was called the 'Eifel Multitool. I would like to ask you do you do restorations for individuals? I would love to have you restore the 2 flash Plierwrenches like yours. If it's possible.

Yea, taping isn't exactly a favorite part of the process. Can't speak for everyone, but I like the longer videos. Wouldn't mind of all the vids were 10+ minutes. Really. BTW, have you tried Krylon's Troy Built Red? Used it over the weekend for the first time. Beautiful. Bright and vivid without orange hues.
Hello Felix! That Troy Red is similar to Regal red! Awesome color!!! Rustoleum has added a whole new tractor color-match line! Alison Chambers Orange, Farmall Red and Cub Yellow to name a few! Wow, I have never seen this one before. I already have a bid on one on eBay. Ill see if I get it and try it out. Do you know whats kind of similar and in a modern package? The Knipex Pliers Wrench. I have that plus the regular Knipex Cobra and they are among the nicest tools I have and the Pliers Wrench helped me change out a sink with nothing else and when you look at how beautifully designed and executed they are, they really are a work of art and very pleasing to look at. I got the smallest ones too and they can really exert a tremendous amount of clamping power.

Very interesting, I thought you painted and then grinded the area of the letters, in order to get the bottom red and the letters clean. Never thought of the paint thinner
Hello Victor! I used to do that on some wrenches but I found this to be easier and looks better! The key is you have to work fast while the paint is still wet! Thanks very much!!! 😃👍
I have one that has a screw and a spring with a little collar to hold it in. I took it out. Now I don't know how to put it back together. Update: The long part of the spring goes down the handle of the pliers, and the small part fits in a little notch on the opposing handle. The screw is so old that there is a high spot now in the middle of the screw. Warning: A second set of hands is recommended for reassembly. You have to cram the spring with the bushing between it in between the handles, and have your brother ram the screw through it. Otherwise the spring may fly off into the unknown reaches of space. Or into your dogs water bowl whichever comes first.
I have an original pair, seems to be orange not sure if that was the original color or somebody sprayed them. I use mine on wire fencing they are terrific.

There is absolutely no substitute for quality.The steel used in pre WW2 tools was of such a higher quality it's not even a contest.....great video as always cheers mate

Here's what I'm betting....I'll bet that when you get into a restoration that hours go by and it feels like minutes!! There's a "Zone" that you get into that is like a time warp!! Yes shellac is hard to come by! I'm an electrical engineer and I work in a factory that builds power transformers. We have at least 100 Record vices I reckon! I'm currently on the look out for a North Bros Yankee screwdriver for my tool collection.

ScoutCrafter thank you for the reply! I need to get a belt sander to get my tools looking like yours do when you're done. Doing it by hand isn't going to work out very well. I might have to for some. If I don't do any sanding is it possible to get the tools to a mirror finish by using just the steel brush on the bench grinder and a buffer? Also does coating the tools in a clear gloss finish spray paint actually stay on the metal to protect it from rusting? I feel it would come off easily once put in a tool box or once the tool came into contact with other tools. Sorry for the questions I'm just starting to restore some tools and want to get to your level eventually. My son who is 8yo likes helping and seeing how they come out after. When I was working I would of loved a set of these but I've never seen anything like them . The Nearest I've had was a locking adjustable jaw can't remember the make sorry could of been mole wrench but kreg make something similar now but the jaws are a lot longer still very useful I have 2 or3 different pairs .thanks so much for the video as always very interesting

I found one of these at an estate sale today, for $2.00. It's in great condition!
Mine just came in the mail. Bye bye $21. The screw driver on it punched a hole in the box it shipped in. I reckon you could carry it around as a self defense weapon for that reason. Can't wait to restore it.

firm believer in old, American-made tools are WAY better than those made today; even those still made in the U.S.A. some of the new ones are good. but most of those old ones are still kicking around simply because they were built to last a lifetime. and then they wound up lasting several lifetimes. if i can find an old U.S.-made tool, i'd much rather have that and clean it up to use, if i can.

They didn't build things to last 10 years they built them to last forever!!! I love things that are overbuilt and well built! This wrench is a real good example of that! ive noticed it with screwdrivers, i have some philips and pozi drives from the 70s, still going strong, made in the UK, anything ive bought made in china, they wear out in a year!

Knipex is a german brand and is 150 years old pricey but quality.
The rest is also german but the are mostly screwdriver brands quality all the way have my knipex cobra`s for over thirty years now still as good as day one, don`t believe just look at some reviews this goes about every brand mentioned in this comment.
Justin Van Mierlo anything german french even made in spain is very good indeed, but they dont seem to be common in the USA which has dozens of brands which are sold everywhere, im in the UK and german tools are the go-to now, seeing as the UK stuff is no longer made, knipex are the best modern pliers its true and german screwdrivers excellent too, only recently can we get the japanese brands and not just the rebranded stuff we used to get before the chinese swamped that market, and their stuff, albeit very traditional design, is very good too.
they may be good quality tools, but i prefer my American-made tools.

ScoutCrafter Been finding old tools around parents place along with other antiquities. Got a pipe threader my Grandfather used when building up Fort Bragg here in NC. History
Another find was a Mercedes Benz offset box end wrench. Super old from appearance.
Some of those old tools are quite collectable! The Auto maker wrenches especially are sort after by many car collectors... Even if they aren't worth any real money it's awesome to just clean them up and keep them as mementos! =) Great stuff!!!!

I have 5 one new one from NOPAK, one that was produced by Vaco plus an older one probably from the 40,50s with the price on it that was given to me by a dear friend. I've recently aquired 2 of the 'Flash' tools, one with the original case but no extra jaws and another with no case but 3 jaws. Also got my hands on the booklet/manual for the Flash ones and am waiting for the angle screwdriver and what was called the 'Eifel Multitool. BTW, have you tried Krylon's Troy Built Red? Used it over the weekend for the first time. Beautiful. Bright and vivid without orange hues.
Hello Felix! That Troy Red is similar to Regal red! Awesome color!!! Rustoleum has added a whole new tractor color-match line! Alison Chambers Orange, Farmall Red and Cub Yellow to name a few! I'd dry brush those letters with silver. So much easier and the outcome is much cleaner
Wow, I have never seen this one before. I already have a bid on one on eBay. Ill see if I get it and try it out. Do you know whats kind of similar and in a modern package? The Knipex Pliers Wrench. I have that plus the regular Knipex Cobra and they are among the nicest tools I have and the Pliers Wrench helped me change out a sink with nothing else and when you look at how beautifully designed and executed they are, they really are a work of art and very pleasing to look at. I got the smallest ones too and they can really exert a tremendous amount of clamping power.

Very interesting, I thought you painted and then grinded the area of the letters, in order to get the bottom red and the letters clean. Never thought of the paint thinner

I have one that has a screw and a spring with a little collar to hold it in. I took it out. Now I don't know how to put it back together.
Update: The long part of the spring goes down the handle of the pliers, and the small part fits in a little notch on the opposing handle. The screw is so old that there is a high spot now in the middle of the screw.
Warning: A second set of hands is recommended for reassembly. You have to cram the spring with the bushing between it in between the handles, and have your brother ram the screw through it. Otherwise the spring may fly off into the unknown reaches of space. Or into your dogs water bowl whichever comes first.
I have an original pair, seems to be orange not sure if that was the original color or somebody sprayed them.
I use mine on wire fencing they are terrific.
Way cool tool. Really cool if you chrome it.
