    Love the way this pair of pliers came out. Most modern tools look like toys compared to the old classics. Great job! Thanks,

    Scoutcrafter, I love the cutter design on these. We often see over here the two side cutters but the central cutter is a work of genius. These smaller tool companies that flourished in the early to mid 20th century are sadly missed with so many brands owned by one holding company, individuality is lost.

      Hello Tony! You are so right! When there was lots of competition companies really brought their "A" game! With so much high quality tooling on the market you had to be great just to survive a year or two! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍

      Hello Alan! When I was a boy my neighbor had a pigeon coupe on his roof.. I would watch the pigeons fly circles around our block for hours... They were amazing to me... Years later when he moved I built my own Pigeon coupe and raised pigeons for over ten years... Now I only have about 7 left and they invite friends from all over to hang out on my house! I feed the birds (all birds) twice a day and they provide me with entertainment and joy that makes it worth while... Now if only I can get them to stop pooping on my car!!! 😂 Thanks so much!!! 😃👍

    I wish we still had those small local brands for stuff like hand tools that work in small enough volume that they can add those extra flourishes without sweating cutting the cost of the little bit of extra steel and time it takes to add them. I hit an antique flea market near the house, only found one ball pien hammer and small vise but you had to buy them in a tool box with a few other old things I don't want for $97. NOPE. Also found that the pawn shop closest to me charges full retail new price for their used stuff. Damn used Harbor Freight flux core welder for $100. NOOOOPE.

    i took your idea about using press to make so less slop in the tool. but how i did it was use a big ass hammer as the vise then use a small pall pen and put on rivit then use a big ball ping to hit small one, took few wakes but it work out perfect

      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice pliers, nice press. is there anyway of filling pitting? ive thought of maybe special brazing/soldering but figure that would ruin heat treated items. maybe it could be possible to hammer in very small amounts of steel incrementally? like with damascening

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Joe!!! You could easily grind the pits deeper and weld in some fill then grind off the excess but I am ashamed to admit I don't have a welder! A nice TIG welder could drop a small amount of metal right where you want it then grind it flat... Brazing is another great option but the part has to be pretty hot to accept the braze. (Not ideal). I really need to learn to weld and get a set-up but it takes quite a while to get decent at welding and they say "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". Lol. Joe- For tomorrow's video I have something just for you guys on the other side of the pond!!! 😃👍. Thanks so much!!!!

    • @TrollBenable

      wow of all people you cant weld? Dx

    My Dad had a set just like that when I was a kid. I would like to write I wonder what ever happened to them but I think I remember I lost them. I do remember I always loved to use them as a kid because the side cutters were so much easier to use cutting haywire and feeding. Even with a child's hands I had enough leverage. Changing the subject I wonder if you could make or buy a punch for the Dake to punch those holes out instead of drilling them making brackets?

      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello David! These cutters really are a joy to use!! I would love a punch for the Dake! It would have to be attached from top to bottom so the punch would line up with the hole... It shouldn't be that hard to make, I would be happy with a 1/4" hole! I'm going to look now!!! Thanks!!!

      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello shaun! Sure- These letters were super easy because of the flat background, I just flooded the letter with paint, then using a piece of cardboard with paper towel dampened with mineral Sprits I wiped off the excess paint leaving only the recess filled! I will show it next time!!! Thanks!!!!

    Nice tip about useing the nut in the vise to tighten the pliers. It looks like many of the makers back then used that same basic design shape to .Also, if you had left your square in the press, you could have used it for marking around corners. Sorry , I just had to say that. lol

      Hello GreenTriumph1- I am trying to figure out the best way to tighten up the rivets... I went with the nut because it uses a circular pressure to expand the rivet outwards... If I used a dowel plug it would press the rivet down... I'm still trying to see which method will last longest!!! Thanks!!! 😃👍

Does not say chrome valadium , only says patened and has a donkey and made in USA. Can you tell me what I have age wise, etc. Thank you from this 61 year old disabled Vet.

      ScoutCrafter , I didn’t used to. Frankly, it wasn’t until I started watching you and Hand Tool Rescue that I begin to appreciate the value of refinishing and really appreciating what these old tools were and how they were made so I have you to thank for helping me to appreciate the value of these items. I have begun to restore tools and give them away as gifts as well I’ve had the privilege of coming across some really interesting shears and wrenches and it’s been a joy to give these as gifts after restoring them of course. I’ve had a hard time figuring out what to give as gifts because as a man I don’t think about those things very often but now that I’ve been restoring old tools I find it much easier to be giving.

    for all those tightening a rivet via the hammer method, do it with the pliers open, it settles much better , of course if you are spoilt and have a press :) use it

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jusb! Do you use a plug or a hollow? I'm trying to decide which method works best... I thought the hollow (nut) would spread out the metal almost mushrooming it, where the plug would press it down flat... I have to experiment! Thanks!!!

    • @jusb1066
      @jusb1066 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      plug, i have an old soft ball hammer i use as the in between, its kinda awkward to hold 3 things but it works, i find the pliers open works because it gets looser as you close the pliers, rather that get tight as you close as you spend all day working them loose again, i think you did stumble across a better way with the nut, to get the pressure around the outside allowing the middle to come up, plus the press means its even all around, so much better than hitting it. but try with the pliers open if you are doing another pair to see if it works better or maybe it doesnt

    I wonder if you might use something different instead of a harden nut i notice the nut left a mark perhaps a piece of harden rod ?

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bert! Perhaps! The reason I used a nut is because it was circular and the pressure would press the outside of the rivet down, I was trying to avoid pressing (deforming) the inside of the rivet and making the pliers tight without getting rid of the slop... I have always had success pressing like this until I tried tightening up a pair of Klein pliers! The rivet took ten tons and wouldn't budge at all! I really am a amateur at this and welcome all tips and tricks and will try anything! Thanks so much!!!!!!!

    Nice restoration however the Pexto plier has one feature missing that is the wire stripper. Most have the cutters on the side with the jaws a stripper cutter this one is only a cutter which is duplicating what is on the side. The metal bender for the press is awesome but for the odd bracket to me is not cost effective unless you do a lot of metal bending. There is a much smaller option that fits on a vice, the male form is on one jaw and the female fits on the other jaw. Amarzon sells them but can be easliy made if you have a welder there are youtube videos on how to make a vice benderf.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Tony! These pliers were geared mostly as fencing pliers and stripping wire isn't a big chore for those guys, and you are right- that brake is by no means cost effective but some tools are just tool awesome not to have! Lol. I am hoping one day the brake will pay for itself but unfortunately I don't have that many years left! Lol. 😃👍. Thanks!!!

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have at least 25 ye
      s left so lets hope the brake ends up making a profit.
