The 360/PS3 is better in every way, but this version has some charm. I think I mainly like it for nostalgia though since I started with the Wii version. I was so happy when I finally got a 360 and could experience the REAL Sonic Unleashed!

Also, the hub worlds are one of the best things about this game. It adds a ton of character and believably to the world and the amount of sidequests and fully featured story arcs with the NPC's make it a joy to go through each time.

Theres a few reasons I dont like the wii/ps2 version. Please read it fully before replying I know its long. The stages themselves actually feel like hallways in the Sd version (wii/ps2 version) both in the day stages and night stages, in the HD version the night stages are more open and dont feel like hallways sure the night stages are longer but still, the daytime stages are a bit more open, but not as limited as the SD version, also theres no marzuri stages in the SD version As for the level design I feel like the Hd version did well with that which is one of the reasons why I love the HD version so much, empire city while being a bad stage the level design for it was great I always love to look at the background and see the cars go by. The boost gameplay doesnt feel right, you just use up a bar and thats it in the Hd version (ps3/xbox360) you can boost whenever you want, when you get the air bost however, thats when people dont like it, cause when people try to homing attack they just air boost and die, which is why people perfer the generations controls Some people dont like the hub worlds in the Hd version but in reality they save time, in the SD version you HAVE to talk to the towns people it is required, but in the HD version its completely optional you can just head straight to the entrance gate (sure in some cases you cant go to the entrance gate like spongonia, and you have to talk to a couple of people there to find P. Pickle and get permission in chun nan but my point still stands for the most part), yea sure it may not be what some people expect but atleast they're cool (then again thats my opinion) The controls are what some people dont like about modern sonic I got used to it but for some people it can get pretty annoying. I know the HD version has some lag spikes in adabat specifically jungle joyride day act 1 is the most apparent. As for the sun and moon medals... I never had a problem with them, but I know some people dont like them The final boss, for some reason people like the SD version's final boss better I dont know why, personally The 3rd phase felt impossible, and i could never beat it no matter how hard I tried. Other people have different experiences, tell me your experience in the replies. For sonic unleashed ultimate (If sega ever decides to do it), I think they should include both the Hd version and the SD version (kinda like a double pack) so both sides can be happy, each version would have its own save file, and it should also be for all current gen and next gen consoles including steam. There should be customizable controls with 8 presets (including default preset), you should also be able to change the camera as well, give the player the option to switch between auto camera (default) and free camera (like mario odyssey). Give the werehog a shadow, and fix his movement as well as he kinda feels stiff and its really bad when you're trying to move when jumping. As for the sun and moon medals, I think they should either work like they did with the SD version, or just reduce jungle joyride day act 1 by 1 level. Super sonic should playable after you beat the game, Im not sure if the werehog should get a super form tho this would be for both versions. And for your reward for collecting all the sun and moon medals you unlock debug mode, with no limitations. As for the graphics, I think they should be tone down for the switch, but for ps4/xbox one/steam they shouldnt change, but for ps5/xbox series x upgrade them a bit and make it 4k 60fps for ps4/xbox one/xbox series x/ps5 for the switch make it 720p for handheld mode and 1080p for dock mode. Also, I think you should be able to toggle the battle theme music its pretty annoying. I think these changes would be great and I think sonic unleashed ultimate would be 10/10 for most people
A Sonic Unleashed Ultimate, if they ever do one, should mix elements of both games. Maybe mostly stick to the HD versions, but switch to the SD version of the Dark Gaia boss fight (With updated visuals of course.) Additonally, stick to the SD version of moon and sun medal collecting, maybe also add the SD Gaia Temples as a secondary hub. A perfect blend of both versions would be the best definitive version of Sonic Unleashed imo.
Get rid of the badges and level up system and HD version would have been perfect. I have no trouble with night level badges but day badge placements are just hideous. Unlike the red star rings in later Sonic games we basically have to walk slowly in day levels and search for them. I remember I relied heavily on TH-cam videos to find them. Jungle Joyride is one long arse level in HD and I lost dozens millions of brain cells in my badge hunt back in the days. This is why I often give credit to the SD version. It isn’t next gen and it isn’t as huge in terms of contents, graphics, and gameplay. In fact it is more like short hours of brainless fun that most people could 100% it easily with running into frustrations like at all. Same could be said with the level up system. It is totally not the best idea that we should grind xp for hours through very limited levels in this game repeatedly just to level up Sonic to max speed and learn his brawling moves and air dashes. In SD Sonic is already possess all of his moves from the start. We just need to grab some rings in stage to give him additional temporal level up buffs as an icing on the cake, which also in terms encourage players to avoid getting hit. The conclusion is Dimps definitely knows better about how to balance gameplays when it comes to develop unleashed. Good thing Sonic Team actually took some good notes from them. Colors and Generations fixed all these issues well.

tbh the werehog stages in the wii version were really fun as a kid. I feel like if they didnt add the repetitive battle music people wouldnt have been annoyed lol. The concept of exploration was needed in the sonic game, and by compromising it for speed in modern stages, we got to explore more in night stages. Felt like a well balanced game for the Wii. Tbh this is the best game in history, maybe cuz nostalgia, but also cuz it balanced speed and exploration so well. the desire to find all the item boxes was a thriller for me. It took almost a year but man getting that final cutscene felt like the world to me :)

Omg the memories of my childhood. I remember my older brother playing this game and I never saw the ending so I decided to play it for myself and I never did because I got stuck on a level😂. Thank god for TH-cam and people who are better at video games then me. I also remember sonic was like my first crush idk why but I was like 5 I think😂.
Personally, I prefer the Gaia Colossus vs Dark Gaia fight here than the PS3/XBox 360 version. It felt more like a fight between the two. In the other one, you dash to him then a quick-time event... And that's it. Being able to dodge and throw punches at Dark Gaia felt so much better and more fulfilling
Probably a lot less straining on your controller when you get to the part where you gotta spam the A button 100 times as fast as possible. It’s probably less straining to actually throw the punches yourself

I prefer this version over the xbox 360 and ps3 versions. Probably only because i played this version first and i prefer the "gaia gates" or temples over hub worlds.
@@mbdg6810 a bit late but yeah, every playthrough of the ps3 and I cannot do the night stages under 10mins, quickest was in 15mins. The longest would around 30 - 45mins -depending on the combos and strength damage
The night stages in each country is a one big stage that is split into 3 acts, while the HD night stages arent split and they are just one big level in each country
Hedgehog stages are made intentionally short since they're designed around being replayed over and over for an S rank. If on your first playthrough you don't go fight Dark Gaia until you have an S on all the main hedgehog stages you might end up spending longer as hedgehog. They also have a LOT of missions which means you have roughly the same amount of content.
As I can't play the PS3 version (my PC can't handle RPCS3 configs and i can't afford the console), this will be my comfort version. And may i say, the Wii version is also beautiful! I guess it looks even better than ps2 version
This was loads of fun to play, and it even looked great in some areas. Yet to try the HD version but if people say it's better I'm very much looking forward to that
FarmYard Gaming the HD version is better but takes a while to beat the game with collecting sun and moon metals to get to certain levels. The day and night stages are longer and you can explore the hub area

The story of this game, the 2 gameplay styles, Chip/Light Gaia, and a bunch of other things makes me put this in my top 3 Sonic games. I love both versions of this game dear to my heart. Even though the HD versions are far superior, this version did look really nice in some areas.

tbh the werehog stages in the wii version were really fun as a kid. I feel like if they didnt add the repetitive battle music people wouldnt have been annoyed lol. The concept of exploration was needed in the sonic game, and by compromising it for speed in modern stages, we got to explore more in night stages. Felt like a well balanced game for the Wii. Tbh this is the best game in history, maybe cuz nostalgia, but also cuz it balanced speed and exploration so well. the desire to find all the item boxes was a thriller for me. It took almost a year but man getting that final cutscene felt like the world to me :)

Omg the memories of my childhood. I remember my older brother playing this game and I never saw the ending so I decided to play it for myself and I never did because I got stuck on a level😂. Personally, I prefer the Gaia Colossus vs Dark Gaia fight here than the PS3/XBox 360 version. It felt more like a fight between the two. In the other one, you dash to him then a quick-time event... And that's it. Being able to dodge and throw punches at Dark Gaia felt so much better and more fulfilling
Probably a lot less straining on your controller when you get to the part where you gotta spam the A button 100 times as fast as possible. It’s probably less straining to actually throw the punches yourself

@@mbdg6810 a bit late but yeah, every playthrough of the ps3 and I cannot do the night stages under 10mins, quickest was in 15mins. The longest would around 30 - 45mins -depending on the combos and strength damage
The night stages in each country is a one big stage that is split into 3 acts, while the HD night stages arent split and they are just one big level in each country
Hedgehog stages are made intentionally short since they're designed around being replayed over and over for an S rank. If on your first playthrough you don't go fight Dark Gaia until you have an S on all the main hedgehog stages you might end up spending longer as hedgehog. They also have a LOT of missions which means you have roughly the same amount of content.

This was loads of fun to play, and it even looked great in some areas. Yet to try the HD version but if people say it's better I'm very much looking forward to that
FarmYard Gaming the HD version is better but takes a while to beat the game with collecting sun and moon metals to get to certain levels. The day and night stages are longer and you can explore the hub area

I f$cking love this game!!!!! The story of this game, the 2 gameplay styles, Chip/Light Gaia, and a bunch of other things makes me put this in my top 3 Sonic games. I love both versions of this game dear to my heart.
