I saw a video someone showed 2021 cascadia doing 9.1 mpg. Do you know if 2020 is also much better than 2019 in fuel economy

Most European trucks are averaging 10mpg, (Imp.) running at 44,000kgs (97,000lbs). Terrain, weather all make a difference, but 10mpg is the benchmark figure to be achieved in the UK/EU. 99% will be 6x2 units. Quite like the look of this 'Cascadia'..looks like a decent middle of the road motor?

What software did you use for your fuel consumption analytics? I'm a Fleet manager and would like to use something similar. Thanks

I always thought that in colder weather you'll get better MPG.
That's why they make colder intakes in cars to suck in the colder air from the outside.
In relationship to semi trucks I just thought or assumed the colder the air outside would give you better MPG vs a summertime 🤔 Maybe they're idling more.

In the winter you need to warm up your engine before a trip. Engine oil, axles oil have more viscosity and hence increase loss of power. Even tires become more tough and don't wanna roll.

Actually in colder weather the engine will put more fuel in it to keep the motor at the right temperature.

Speeding, idling, acceleration are all behavioural factors impacting fuel economy. But, did you get a chance to further investigate to find out the technical factors that are influencing the drop in fuel economy during winters? If we could do that, we should also be innovative in finding a solution for this issue unless it is out of human control and nature is playing it's game.

There's several factors that play into less fuel economy in the winter. But the biggest factor is fuel composition. In winter months many states and provinces will begin mixing fuel with additives that bring the freezing temperature of diesel to lower temperatures. This lowers the total energy content per gallon/litre and thus lowers fuel economy

It's the anti-gel additive. I don't remember the exact amount, but winter blend requires A TON in Michigan. It honestly feels like an obscene amount when you add it. I trained for a fuel tanker position for one week and decided I preferred not smelling fuel all day.

I'm not seeing it. I averaged over 8mpg for the entire year. Same truck.
You made no mention of an APU. So we're only left to assume.
PS, I just finished a 2200 mile run at 8.2mpg. Running 70-75mph most of the way. My monthly average currently stands at 8.5mpg. I don't always drive that fast.

What type of truck/engine do you have?
I think for the speed that you were driving that's pretty good MPG you're getting👍, I just got my cdl permit working on my driver licence can't wait to get behind a wheel.
But I was thinking the exact same thing is there a lot of idle time that they're doing in the Winter.
