To make the wand more stable, stronger structure Use armature or hanger wire ( from metal hangers) to be your wand's core than wrap it with the foil. The put the clay or sculpy on. You can bend it to matc the picture.

I've made a few wands over the last year's and I always carved it in actual wood which was painful for my little hands. So I'm gonna try this one out. It looks a lot less painful.
My uncle made one from carved wood. He formed it into a wand shape. He stained the wood, he then put knife marks in the wand. Love being the favorite cousin.
You need more recognition, your content is so creative but instead we have channels that don’t help anyone, thank you for helping us your work is appreciated🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love seeing how other people make wands. My own method is somewhat similar, but what I did was use a chopstick/dowel wrapped it it foil, sculpting it to the shape I wanted, then wrapped it in paper tape to create a painting surface, as well as keep it from falling apart.
Also easy way to "paint" the string is to put it in a tiny mug or something with some blackwash (black acrylic with water in so it is more runny) and let it dry
I'm making one right now, and I'm actually very pleased with what it looks like right now. It's in the oven baking! Thanks for the detailed video on it :))
Wow. This is insane - tried it at home and I use mine all the time! Phoenix feather, cedar wood and 12 3/4 inches :D I would totally recommend you do this craft for anyone who is wondering whether it works! It is just amazing, even though my art skills aren't that great! Btw I used the template for the box ;)
I love this tutorial! I am going to attempt making my wand. Might I suggest using an acetone based glue such as Fabrifix or 3 in 1 both by Beacon. They will not cause warping of the paper and they dry quickly.
I think maybe you could also put one of those small circular 'dot' velcro pieces on that top flap and the bottom long side of the box and close it that way so you could open and close without retying.
Got my wand custom made at British Originals. I wanted mine mostly like my Pottermore wand with one of two tiny tweaks and it was amazing! Not that expensive either for authentic wood, either.
would a long but thin stick (like a skewer) be a good idea to be the "core" of the wand? then wrapping foil around it would be more stable and straight
This looks amazing! I could try to attempt with my own but... it'd be too difficult. Mine has too many patterns and grooves on my handle it'd be hard to replicate 😋
Hey Danny, I'm watchtig your videos since you have 8000 subscribers. They are great! It wasn't surprising that you got so many follwer, it is so nice to do filmstuff by my self because buying these is sooo expensive. Thank you for all these videos
I’d recommend : Using a chopstick/thick skewer/tree branch for the base of your wand. Use twine/hot glue/string for embellishments. Make sure to use a ruler to measure out the size you would like. If you want your core to stand out, take tissue paper [not toilet paper] and use glue to lightly stick pieces of tissue in where you want the core to be. Make sure to coat a very light layer of glue. Then paint a light layer of your paint. [Make sure the glue fully dries before you add your paint layer. After you add the paint, let it dry overnight.] Lastly, if you don’t have varnish, take a spoon of craft glue [not white glue white glue is a bit different] and out in a few drops of water and mix. Apply a thin layer and let it set for about an hour.
I would recommend not using a chop stick or skewer. They are both too thin. Good for quick party favors, but if you want a wand that looks real, use a wooden dowel or resin with a steel rod for the core. This video is specifically to recreate your Pottermore wand using clay. This is the easiest way to do it if you aren't good at carving wood.
Thank you for the info on how to make the boxes. I cant print them but as long as i have a the basic idea i can create one for each wand i make...some of my wands are very long or very curvy.....depends on what my maple tree donates..LOL So i will basically have to custom make each box. I do use the hot glue method on most of them but they are way more intricate and look much better then the basic chopstick ones since each is unique because of the wood.
Hi! I have a question, instead of varnish I have a bottle of Top Coat spray I use for model kits. Would it have the same protective effect as varnish or is it not advised as it might ruin the paint?
Danny, Thank you for always putting so much effort into making a high quality diy!! This is by far the best diy wand tutorial available!!! Side Note: can you please make a MACUSA ID and the “Spellbound” celebrity magazine from Crimes of Grindelwald??
Hey just out of curiosity, would using the clay make the wands more delicate? or would they be able to be used in cosplay effectively without breaking if it is dropped once? Awesome video and I am excited to try this out!
Hey! A tip from a fellow polymer clay user, you can use 100% rubbing alcohol or clay softener to get fingerprints out of the clay! Just use a Q-tip and dip it in whichever fingerprint remover you choose to use and start rubbing gently and watch all your mistakes rub away! :D

That’s a really good idea for people (like me) whose wand is crooked like belleatricks
Or just pretend it’s the core for ur wand

To make the box more luxurious, glue cotton in the bottom, cover with a silk type cloth and press wand into it.

dang, that's one fine wand
To make it easier, try starting with a Dowell rod. You can whittle it to shape or cover it with clay. It just makes for a sturdier wand.
That would be way too thick though, and you probably shouldn't put wood in an oven.
