@@humblyright Thank you, that's very kind of you to say! I never intended to stop making videos and I have a ton more I had planned, but life got in the way and I had to re-prioritize for a while. I'm hoping to get back to doing videos soon though. Thank you for the encouragement!
You can use a fine drill and drill in to the wand from the handle insert your core whatever that is and with a little pva glue and the sawdust fill the hole in sealing in your core
I had actually considered drilling out a bigger hole and putting in an LED in the end. Would need a long drill bit to go through the whole thing for the battery and other electronics, but that is definitely a great solution!
It was really helpful, as a real witch I want to make my own wand and I was actually wondering how to put "a core" in it. I dont' have any fancy tools, just my knife and sand paper. And I'm still researching magical properties of different types of wood, coz I want to make a real magick wand (the closer one is a wiccan wand). Also, what is that machine/tool you used on the last wand?
That's great! I tried a few different ways of making wand and using the spokeshave was my favorite. They are pretty inexpensive at around $20. The last to i used was a lathe, used for turning round things (wand, table legs, pens, handles, etc). Though slightly more expensive you can get a small table top one like I have for around $200 on sale. A ton of fun and makes quick work of clean perfectly round wands. Whatever way you choose, I hope you have fun and make the wand that suits your needs!
You need to get yourself a good whittling knife! I think that would have made the initial chiselling bit easier. Also, with regard to putting your core in, it might have been easy to drill into the wand from the handle (just where the handle curves around the corner. Then plugged the hole. I made my wand on a lathe, as per your last suggestion, I made it some years ago. I need to put a core into it sometime, maybe my black cat will donate some hair! :)
Thank you! Nox is a great dog! As for the whittling knife, I've been meaning to make one for some time now, it would have made this project a ton easier! I thought about drilling a hole for the core, but decided to try and sneak it in without any visible spot. When it comes to the piece I turned on the lathe, the walnut grain was so curvy, that would have been the only way I could have done it. Thanks for watching!
Well, it turned out lovely! I admit, I was surprised at just using one hair, but then I remembered that JKR had never given a QUANTITY of how much 'core' there is. For example, with the 'hair' ones, just how much Veela hair is in there? (I *seem* to remember something saying that Fleur's grandmother had given up 'a hair' for her wand, but I'd have to go look it up to make sure). I love HP names for critters, our dog is 'Oliver James Wulfric Remus Black *surname* the Bear'. I bet you can guess where all of those come from. Oh, except 'the bear' that's more a description than a name...
Did you oven dry the wood to prevent any parasite or mould issues? I'm looking at making one for my wife and I would rather use wood with some natural character than hardware store dowel.
All of the wood I used was dry, though I have seen a lot of people doing carving with wet wood as it tends to be easier. As long as the tree is healthy and the wood you recovered hasn't been sitting on the forest floor for a while, I don't see any issues as long as there are no signs of being buggy. Though you can always dry it slowly in the oven afterwards, though it can cause warping and cracking.
I was trying to avoid plugs and things of that sort, using the natural cracks in the wood. If you were to drill a hole, how would you plug it up without the use of glue? I typically doing use stain, I like the natural color of the wood, but in this case, I liked how the stain gave it a bit of an aged look.
Ha ha, nope, it's just for show, though I guess you could add a digital pen tip and use it on the screen that way, not sure it would make it easier, but it would certainly add to the effect.
Fours years later, still inspiring people, thank you for making this video!
Thank you for checking it out! I'm always surprised by how many people still watch. I really want to get back into it, and someday soon I will.
I love that you used your own magical beast’s hair. ❤️
I know no better magical beast than him. 😀

@@TheEveryMaker Wishing you and yours the best in the new year.
Hay man, can you make a new video making a wand that looks good using only a carving knife and sand paper and love the video
You do have a magical beast there, Nick. Nice of him to allow one of his valuable hairs up for use. Should make for a powerful wand.
He was so excited to be involved in the project! Thanks for watching!
NICK THE WAND TURNED OUT GREAT VERY NICE .FROM DOUG

Magic it is! All the best from Portugal!
Thank you from Albuquerque, NM!

i love that shirt!!
It's one of my favorites!
That looks fun!
It was such a fun project! Got to use a new tool and sometimes it's great to make something that you just don't need, but want to do anyway.

Nice to see you putting out more videos! Keep it up! :D
Thanks Nick, I'm hoping to be more consistent, but you know how life is sometimes.
Nick!!! Welcome back...fun video. And Lumos Maximus looks like a fantastic beast indeed!
Thanks Bruce! I forgot how much fun it is to make a video. Hopefully more more soon.
Any recommended spell to use with this magic wand 🤗 nice video mate👍
My favorites are Lumos Maxima and Nox, which has nothing to do with the fact that is my dog's name. :) thank you!

What type of wood? Did you use for the first wand
That was a piece of Holly from a not so healthy tree in my side yard. I liked the gnarly texture and natural look of it.
I really love this video, please please please 🙏🏻 make it again🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 ow with another core😁
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I did have a couple other ideas for wands, so maybe I'll do another!
@@TheEveryMaker yes , you should do it again....I really enjoy it 😁
saw the tardis, liked.
One of my favorite shirts for sure!
I would recommend drilling from the bottom of the handle upward. And avoid using glues and unnatural stains. Personally.

A great video tutorial on how to make a "how to make" videos
Glad you liked it! Never thought of it that way, thank you for the kind comment!
@@TheEveryMaker yeah it was very organised and full of elements
This First wand remenber me Lucius wand
Oh yeah! I can see that, with his snake head handle. It does kind of have that feel.
Does this work In The game

Great episode- follow James Wright and be showed off y’alls wands.
All the wands are awesome! I can't wait to sit down and watch all the videos.
Finally, a real wooden Ollivanders style wand with core.
A wand without a core is just a fancy stick! 😁
He made a BOXXY reference ❤❤
Thanks for watching!
We muggles tend to be wierd sometimes
Some of the strangest people I know of, for sure!
Looks like Ron Weasley wand
It does a bit look like his second wand! I love that every wand is so unique.
I carve my wand with a just a knife
I was planning on that, but the wood i had was so dry, it didn't cut well.
.
Indeed!
