Compare with th-cam.com/video/gstP64zKRkE/w-d-xo.htmlm14s The MIDI replayer leaves a lot to be desired even on AdLib, but OPL3 gets treated as "OPL2 with 2x the channels", which is just a shame.
Why compare with SB16? Sound Blaster sucks. Doom was made to be heard on Roland. I like your remix, but it's not Doom. It could maybe be heard in a fighting game spinoff of Doom. There are several sounds here that were deliberately NOT used because they would have ruined the game's soundtrack, especially that cymbal/snap noise. It's pure ear rape! You just didn't notice back then because you were in a crowded arcade and the speakers were muffled.
@@neattricks7678 I think you missed the point of the video. This entire experiment is about the quality of the OPL3 playback engine in the original. Which is also the reason I'm comparing against the SB16. Also yeah, this is not Doom, this is Doom II ;]
two minutes ago i was like "i wonder if anyone has redone the doom soundtrack to actually be written to opl3 instead of general midi haphazardly mapped to opl3" and now im on this web site
I was never a fan of OPL music, but apparently, I wasn’t aware that it had much more potential than most MIDI tracks of old games made use of. Same for wave tables: Playing a generic MIDI track doesn’t do individual cards justice.
just a nitpick, the bassline is not supposed to move with the chords. It only moves up a 4th when the key changes, and then back down when it changes back.
I like the bass line and even could think of it be more "pop like", would be awesome. It is strange how good this sound, despite being primitive, bare-bone OPL3. But my heart beats in FM anyways, so I love it! (EDIT: Barebone with a bit of VST effects)
Hey, glad to see you're still around, my friend! :] I thought you disappeared from TH-cam altogether! Yeah, that was basically the point: with minimum effort, you can still achieve so much with the OPL3. Also no VST effects here, just somewhat clever usage of stereo. I didn't use 9 channels on the organ for nothing ;] - the low octave is panned left, the high octave is panned right and both have a slight (but different) vibrato applied to it. The high octave also has a different instrument

@@kveemusic Well fair enough. I want to hear it on Roland next, it’s much better!
@@neattricks7678I have a modern remix of this with a bitchin' guitar solo by Shai Baruch on my channel, perhaps that would be more to your liking?
It's badass and easily my favorite Running From Evil! @@kveemusic

This slaps so freaking HARD.
i swear your music has its own 'kvee' feel to it
"what music genre do you listen to?"
"kvee"
That's one of the biggest compliments you can give to a musician! :]
Thanks!
Thank you for creating this version of MAP01! This is amazing :)
thanks! :]
oh my goodness Doom 2 is what made me find your channel originally. It's like a blast from the past.
There's always more Doom 2 here, if you don't mind waiting a few years :D
@@kveemusic Quality content takes time. I'll wait till the end of time for good stuff. Keep at the quality content mate you got it good.
@@JiJ1511 hey, thanks! :]
You uploaded this on my birthday
Thank you for the present
happy birthday! :]
@@kveemusic Thanks man, I love your music!
Amazing. I want to hear the second level like this! Underhalls was an underrated song.
I wish I could listen to the entirety of Doom's OST like this....
Was just about to say this. OPL3 can be so good when it's not just MIDI playback.
If I remember well, I was able to set the music to my Gravis Ultrasound too in Doom II, but I always love the synth music more.
wish I can download it as a MIDI file, it's really good!

Welcome back to Mars marine.

Here's a .dro, see for yourself :]

It translates very well to OPL
PLEASE DO THIS FOR THE FULL SOUNDTRACK, I BEG YOU!
IT'S BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!!
This rules!
I love Hangar 18
Nice!
the main melody (orange) is really quiet, It's hard to even tell it's there
For some reason I'm getting "Who you are gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!" vibes from this.
fucking hell, this is so underrated...imo this is way better than saymaxwell's remix...
The original midi player bass sounds more like a real bass guitar, while the waveform you chose sound a bit too monotone for me
2:20
sounds better than the midi for my money.
This is very different from the real song, and not just in instrumentation!
Should do it for esfm too.
its still missing some introductionary chords.
It isn't though?
