Rolex was never about watchmaking, and even Rolex owners acknowledge that. The whole appeal of the brand is that it's a do anything robust tool watch with a brand cache. Not all watch collectors are interested in fine watchmaking I've learned 😄
In other words, a Rolex doesn't do anything that 10 other brands also do for less money and with equal to superior craftsmanship. It's like an iPhone = driven not by being unique but by appealing to a sense of elitism. And, no. Apple is not superior to Android. Power and Wi-Fi throttling, bugs and being ridiculously overpriced, all courtesy of Apple, say otherwise.

A full yellow gold (w/bracelet) Zenith Daytona is ~$33k. It’s the best bargain in Rolex, considering it’s lower than day date retail price and has a ton of history.

The Daytona on the Gray market, is the same price a vacheron overseas Chrono just let that sink in. It has a better case, better bracelet, a Geneva seal movement from a higher end brand and comes complete with a rubber and a leather strap
The best bang for buck that flies under the radar is the 1990’s El Primero Raindow line. Sub $4000 for a watch with arguably one of the best chronographs ever made, even Rolex used the El Primero movement (modified) in the Daytona up until the year 2000 😊

You are 100% right. The steel Daytona is a good watch for the MSRP. But the in the secondary market, it is not good value for money. You can get a new titanium Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT with a peripheral rotor for less than $20k. The Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Automatic is ~$27k.

A lot of people want a daytona because they want a watch their friends will recognize that they don't have to explain, and primarily they want to be able to sell it if they can make a reasonable profit in a couple years. It has little to do with actually loving the watch...
I agree with you 100 percent. Those new rose gold Rolex Yacht-Masters are "Hot" watches right now. I own an "old school" 2005 Rolex Yacht-Master ref. 16622 with the platinum bezel. Yeah you are talking about the pre-owned market not Msrp it’s not Rolex fault the Msrp is the same regardless of dial color but us the consumer and the authorized dealers have made the models with specific dial colors be above Msrp. I will use the Sky-Dweller as an example in order of low to high stainless steel white dial, black dial, blue dial, green dial oyster bracelet vs jubilee 20k 22k 24k 30k Rolex Msrp around 16k regardless of dial color so again the uncertainty of weather or not we are getting the watch and how much purchase history and years of loyalty is needed don’t know but I know that if I buy a Rolex Panda Daytona for twice Msrp I can sell it for twice Msrp uncertainty removed and the Patek co branded with Tiffany and co that is way too insane to me in comparison Have a great weekend Theo and Harris

While I totally agree that there are so many watches that are better than a Ss Daytona however they don’t sit in the precious metal range of Rolex as that just misses the point of Rolex. If you want precious metal then look at haute horology as that’s really not the Rolex MO.
This is a slightly deceiving message and video to make. Rolex doesn’t charge in excess of 25-40k for a steel Daytona. Those prices come from the secondary market and the public that decides to fork over their cash for the watch, so yes, while there are alternatives that might be “more watch” for the secondary market price of the Daytona - key words being “secondary market” - the supply and demand of the Daytona also dictate the current prices making the Daytona actually worth whatever is being charged. There are also two toned Daytonas that you can get on the secondary market for well under $20k as well. The Daytona will stop being so expensive when grey market dealers stop hoarding them and artificially drive up the prices, and when people stop paying these prices from them (again, check the price of the watch from Rolex themselves. I get that it’s unobtanium and the avg person can’t buy one at retail, but a non-precious metal Daytonas at retail are priced in the teens, but secondary markets such as Theo and Harris (as an example only, not saying that you guys personally are responsible for the current prices, and I know you focus more on vintage) and their competitors are the ones charging these prices which makes this episode comical to me). Your message here should have been either secondary markets/Grey Markets inflate the price and us consumers should stop paying these prices, or wait years for one from your Rolex AD because when the watch leaves the factory new (steel versions) the price is around $14-15k these days…

Omega Speedmaster for sure. Zenith Chrono is also great, but Speedy takes the cake and it won't cost you as much.
