Exactly how I feel
The new black looks a little better. But The panda 🐼 is wonky looking. I get most people won’t or can’t tell the difference. But we are a special set of dumb asses that fixate on the details 😆 we’re enthusiast! 🤣
I prefer the black 116500. Also prefer both with the full ceramic bezel look. I have a black and panda speedy that the steel ring gets nicked and I have replaced at service. Also would look too much like a speedy to me.

Not a Daytona fan, never was, i guess I never will be even though it is a top watch. But I wish for you to love your Panda the way I love my 1960s Speedy 321. Depending when you were born, what you see and feel for a watch, what emotion they generate, you fall in love with it - it can be a Daytona, an old 321, or a cheap Casio. No rules. To each his own grail. Buy and enjoy the one YOU love.

You’ve got a great version of the watch, but I’ve learnt that when it comes to design, I should never speak too soon, because despite how much I analyse things, the reality of how things grow on me is unpredictable. Rolex would have trialed that design for a long time, so they have the benefit of experience over us.. just like Ferrari design, there’s a reason it ages so well. As of right now, I’m with you that your version is the best.. but I wouldn’t make any bets on it, because sometimes it can take years for it to ‘click’.. and when it does, there’s no going back! Enjoy your watch man, it’s a legendary piece!! 💫

Huge congratulations to you. I had no preference regarding Daytona black dial vs. panda. My AD offered me the black dial after three years and many purchases. It has ruined all other black dial watches for me. Sold my sub, sea dweller, and speedy. Only the black dial Milgauss GV remains as a black dial alternative in my collection. I think the Daytona is the Rolex that people would buy as their only Rolex if it were readily available. I think you may find over the next few months that consolidating your collection will be easier now that you have the panda. Please keep us posted. I am definitely interested.
I’m already toying with the idea of consolidating. I mean, if I’m only wearing the panda why not??? lol we’ll see. Black dial is beautiful. And I think if you removed the hype, it’s objectively a better looking daytona.
thanks for a great video. you captured my watch collecting sentiments, exactly. i have fixated on the 126710blro for a couple years and i was thinking my chances of getting one from my AD were slipping through my hands, especially with all the talk of them being discontinued. i was even considering the 116719blro, white gold black dial pepsi that is extremely under market value. thankfully my AD gave me the call a week before christmas, but as watch addicts, the thrill of the hurt far exceeds the actual acquistion. why can't we just be happy with what we have??

The SS Daytona was always sought after and never in the display cases decades before the latest social media hype. It’s not a new or artificial phenomenon. The 11 series ceramic Daytona Panda is THE ultimate Rolex regardless of price point. It’s now a rock star with VIP status. FYI the real world owner measurements are in and the newer 12 series Daytona is no larger than the 11 series Daytona. Rolex just messed up the beautiful case and face with the 12 series.

As an owner of both I don’t even need to read those numbers, unless you’re blind the 12 series wear bigger. IMO the 11 series is cooler, but the 12 series is nicer.

Many of the same reasons I decided on my Rolex CPO, black dial 116500ln earlier this month. I really like the size and proportions. Larger cases are just a fad like baggie clothes were in the 90’s.
Larger cases aren't a fad for us larger framed individuals. I'm 6'03", 220 lbs, with 7 1/4 inch wrists. My SD43 is absolutely perfect 👌🏻 on my wrist.

That’s tough. The sub I suppose it the least special or sentimental. I’d have to think about it some more. In reality the daydate is a watch I wear more seldom in my everyday life so maybe even that one would go idk. It’s a fun thought experiment

There is no doubt that 126500 is a better more refined version Daytona. But what choice do you have when you are buying from the AD. I think 126500 is a better looking Daytona especially with black dial. But I wouldn’t reject if AD offers me 116500 in any color 😉

@@cookingwithwatches I'm with you -- have both in white dial configuration and the 126500ln is my clear favorite of the two due to the obvious refinements -- large and small. Simply having symmetrical lugs makes a HUGE difference.

I would say at least a couple watches. A steel daytona to many AD’s is seen as a thank you piece. You wanna wear your pieces in. Make sure to visit plenty and just be patient

Nice review. I have both 116500 Panda (my daily wearer) and in late December I got a 126500 Panda. I still lean towards the 116500. I got rid of my back and white dial 116520s and I also got rid of my 116500 Black dial, never wore them. In fact I am down to 3 Rolex now. I may stay that way,less decisions on a day to day basis! 😂

i love mine, but when i wear it after my vintage sub or my batgirl gmt i find the face so fussy on the Daytona, you have to double take to check the time at a glance, the gmt and sub i have are so easy and crisp to see time in an instant , the extra dials, loads of face text and thin Daytona hands make it not the most practical, but it is perfect size and weight and a pretty watch.
I hear that a lot, but to be honest I don’t get the legibility aspect. It’s fine to me. Of course a dive watch is better at a glance. It’s by design I suppose. But I love the busy yet symmetrical design of a classic three register chrono. Thank you for watching! Btw what vintage sub do you own? Red sub? 😬

I totally understand what you mean about the sickness. I took 9 months to get my first Rolex this year ( Sub Date) and after a week I was looking to buy the next.
I had to say to myself stop and enjoy what you have instead of trying to get the second and final ( Ha!) Rolex.

It’s weird because the day date wasn’t something I wanted so early, but I wasn’t going to turn it down. The steel daytona was what I wanted now. And it better fits my everyday life. So in a way I was much happier getting this call.

Congrats!!!! Did you get this Daytona at the same AD where you got your Day Date? Awesome!!! Enjoy and be careful rocking it in public, watch your surroundings. I agree this version is better than the new 2023/2024 variant. This has a true classic oyster case and it's smaller/thinner than the new version. I want one, but there's not much in modern Rolex that I want. I own an Explorer 36mm 2021, I don't care for the 41mm Sub no date (I prefer the pre-ceramic). I like the GMT Batman, but it takes time to get one and new/used prices are coming down close to retail (I can wait). I want a Day Date 36mm white gold. I could get one TODAY, but I feel I'm not ready for it. I have a few obligations and life goals to achieve before I will buy one. I feel a little too young for a Day Date (I'm a youthful 51 year old flat stomach, full head of hair, still look like I'm in my 30's good genes I suppose).. that's just me, to each their own journey. So for me it's pointless to spend money, show insincere effort, find time to follow up with AD sales reps just to prove my customer loyalty to my AD for a Daytona. Personally I will wait until I can find one around $20k if the time is right. I know these will not get back down to $17k-$19k 2016 prices. However, if and when Rolex get it's new factory up and running. I'm sure we will start to see more Daytona models available to cool off the demand.

This was never on my radar a few years back, it was always the Batman since this seemed unachievable and I had “realistic” goals so never considered. I was saving for one, got a call from my AD for the TT CHNR even though it wasn’t on my list, I didn’t want to risk having a purchase history so I ended up buying it and not loving it, moved it on for a small profit. Cut to, finally was in the position to buy a Batman through the gray, thanks to recent YT channel growth and success and even bought the Starbucks. I soon realized how much I wanted the 116500ln Panda and made a trade for the Batman and Starbucks for the Panda. Owned it for about 5 months and for some idiotic reason, I traded it for, wait for it… a Batman plus cash. Not even a month has gone by and I realized I made a mistake. The Daytona proportions and the over feel were just second to none, aside from my first Rolex the Polar Explorer 5 digit… I am now in the process of trading my Batman+cash to get my damn Panda back! And yes, I agree the 126 Panda just doesn’t do it for me. Hard to improve on the 116500! Great video!

It’s a decent looking watch. I wouldn’t call it the best looking Rolex though. However I’ve gotta disagree with you on the new one. The new Daytona is elite. That stainless bezel ring makes the watch seem a lot more premium and completely balances out the overpowering effect the bezel used to have on the watch. The Zenith El Primero suffers from that issue. Rolex managed to fix the watch from the ailment it suffered from, and I can honestly place it on the Speedmaster level now. However, it’s all personal preference and I’m happy if you’re happy.
I appreciate your opinion. And thats why watch collecting is cool, we can have different opinions. I personally don’t want my daytona to look more like a speedmaster, I see that as a negative. But again it’s okay that we disagree.
@@ChristopherNegroni That’s a fair statement. For some reason the older Daytona/El Primero don’t do it for me. For context though, I’m not a big fan of the Royal Oak either 😂.
@@dainluke it might be a little bit of bias from all the hype those watches get. Thats why I said it’s a very loved and hated watch. I love the Daytona and Royal Oak for the history and design not the hype necessarily.
@@ChristopherNegroni Hype is definitely somewhere in my psychology as an unavoidable variable 😂. However, for some reason there are aspects of the designs of both that just don’t do it for me. The Nautilus is my favourite overall watch though. Not sure why, but that one definitely does it for me - would be my only watch if I could ever acquire one. Unfortunately it is literally never going to be in my wheelhouse.
@@dainluke so funny… I think the nautilus is kind of ugly 🙈 the side profile with those weird ears hanging off the case ugh idk. The Royal oak is much cleaner, brutalist design, yet elegant. We won’t agree man 🤣.
I didn't want to settle for the less desirable old reference so my AD came through and I got the current Panda😀 I love the symmetrical lugs, the mishapen old ones are an eye sore.

Same here. They took it out of the 6 side instead of the 12 (7 links on 12 side and 4 on 6 side) and it feels like it is leaning away. Looks like they removed it from your bottom (6 side)

I have enjoyed your video, excellent work! My take. 3 years of purchase history (who knows how much you spent) and suddenly you get the call to go and burn other 17K USD completely unplanned😅.. From a financial perspective I already hate this operation. Not the watch but the process… Becoming an integral part of their marketing and market speculation consequently. Nah, I’ll pass. Especially when there are in existence much better, more beautiful and with more interesting history chronographs by Far out there 🎉
I would respectfully disagree. The sports chronograph category has thrived in big part because of the Daytona. Is it marketing? Absolutely. Rolex marketing is one of the best. I do agree that it’s probably not financially the best purchase. But you could do worse than buying a Daytona at retail.
@@ChristopherNegroni Chris, no doubt on that. Rolex's marketing is ingenius. Additionally their business model is quite unique if you consider Rolex is charity organization. The watch is great even though I personally prefer other chronographs. Congrats on your purchase. Again, excellent video. Allow me to say that you certainly deserve more subscribers.

Black dial is nice and arguably the better looking of the two. I had to have the white dial for that nostalgic Paul Newman vibe, the hype, and because I never had a white dial Rolex. Thanks for watching!

Agreed that the new steel Daytona is a let down from this classic. There is less “Panda” going on with the thinner sub-dials and bezel. Just doesn’t have the same visual impact. I like the new precious metals versions just fine, as they were already larger cases before, but I’m not buying the new Panda to replace my current one, just isn’t an upgrade:
Definitely don’t sell your panda. It’s the best one they made by far. I agree with the precious metals. The larger sub dials and case shape seemingly being the same is okay with me

The 126500 is NOT slab sided and in no way resembles a Tudor. So you are off on that. It has the same DJ-like curved sides as the gold Daytonas
It looks slab sided. But it’s not I’ve seen in person. Still don’t like it as much as the 16 series. The even lugs give a more squared look. I like the elegant design of the older case. It’s not bad.

I prefer the new models of Daytona than the earlier ones. The new models pop and look very cool. There’s no way the new models of Daytona are anywhere resembling Tudor or any other models
You’re entitled to your opinion. I personally love the elegance of the previous gen’s case. The lugs were rounded off and melted into the bracelet seamlessly. The new model has endlinks that angle down, and the lugs are cut downwards. I hate it. Little tudorish

As much as i see and have tried them, i prefer defenetly new one, for me it's more balance due to thin subdials and much presence on the wrist. The old one for me its too small and unbalance with thick subdials. Anyway it's always a daytona, its important to enjoy it 😉!!!

I tried a bunch of different Daytonas on my wrist and every time, I’m disappointed by the looks when on my wrist. In photo’s and videos, I LOVE it!! But in reality, it’s too dainty and looks terrible on my wrist.

Agree. Most iterations of the new daytona are a downgrade from the 11 series daytona. Only exceptions might be the platinum and black ss.
Yes that’s one thing I didn’t mention. The platinum, LeMans, and some of the oysterflex variations are very nice 👌🏼

It could absolutely be that. Many people buy watches and jewelry that they never wanted and waste a lot of money when they can really just buy one with a mark up now. But I wasn’t in a hurry, I knew if I just bought what I wanted, showed them I was a collector, I’d eventually have a shot. And this one of those watches that’s very special to get from the AD
