    Nice and GI pipes & accessories are best chosen. One suggestion would be to avoid one flange of guard towards ladder by making common by replacing elbow by Tee.

    great idea and great work
    However I suggest to load the bed with angle brackets instead of screwing the bolts. 2nd, use the pipe ladder to support the 4th angle( without the wall's support).

    Probably one of the best looking DIY beds I have seen on here, great job! Only thing I would be concerned with though is the ladder screws being in the side of the bed rail rather than underneath the corner, screws are strong but can shear and that is the corner that will get the most abuse.

    The screws in the flanges on the top of the ladder are the only things keeping that bed from crashing to the floor on the outer corner. NOT SAFE in my opinion.

    3 Pocket screws on the corners will shear under load, same reason you use lag screws in the studs instead of wood screws. Either add a post on the corners and secure with lag screws, or at least a bracket. The ladder is insufficient as structural support with just 4 wood screws per leg, it’s also only on one side. There are only 3 pocket screws supporting the smaller side of the frame. Another bracket would help transfer the load to the side with the stairs. But you still need a more solid structure for the ladder. As you note, it’s flimsy to begin with. Put enough load on the ladder and the stairs will buckle in the middle. As a mechanical engineer, this does not get a seal of approval.
    This is, however, a great starting point. Just some more structure required.

    The design is not safe from the engineering point of view. Two weak points: screws attaching the ladder to the side board needs to be replaced by bolts going all the way through the side board and reinforced by a backplate. As this point has to carry entire weight of a person (plus dynamic load). Has to be designed to carry 500lb at least… Also the frame has to be reinforced as the corners (especially one at the right side of the headboard) can be subjected to the full load as well. And 3 pocket screws are not sufficient to hold it.
    Please consider it as “purely decorative”.

    The wall mounted part is a bit secured but the corner part; the pipes connected by screw in wood panels as support? It may not last for long. I won't let my daughter to sleep to one. However the concept is good and could be improved.

    Thanks for that....I am just drawing up plans to build a floating bed (size = full) for my self as I live in a small apartment.. what are the dimensions of your daughters bedroom please include
    L,B,H including celing to mattress (head room) and under bed to floor....
    In the uk our rooms are 8ft celing to floor...
    Much love from Alford aberdeenshire Scotland uk.

    • @aainspire893
      @aainspire893  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not familiar with UK building codes. This was anchored according to framing building codes in the United States. I don't have a clue what they are in the UK and highly recommend you check what you have and see if it will work. In the United States there are 2x4 studs in the wall 16" on center. It has to be anchored to every stud in order for this to work. I do not have all the exact measurements at the moment and will get them to you as soon as I can. The ceiling to floor is 8ft with the bed placed in the middle. So it sits about 4ft high. equal space on top and bottom. The frame and mattress is about 8" thick (depending on your mattress size this will be different.) Before I built this I put tape on the floor outlining the dimensions of a standard twin mattress. Then placed tape half way up the wall (length and width of the mattress) sounds stupid but definitely gave me a good visual of what to expect before even trying it! Most definitely check on the framing in the UK. I have seen videos online for this style for larger sizes mattress and that maybe more helpful for your needs! I hope this helped! :)

    Cool idea, but structually it seems like a death trap? No continuous structure through the ladder, or pole holding the corner up? If someone runs into the ladder it would just fold, and the bed Come crashing down. Take care

    • @999tr
      @999tr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm thinking the metal poles being fastened into the floor are quite a solid support and structurally as sound as some sort of beam.

    To prevent 'painful bruises', I'd recommend wrapping the 'safety rail' with 'pipe insulation foam' or a pool noodle.
    Moving the ladder to the foot of the bed would really enhance the appearance of the bed floating.
    And, instead of the your 'pipe ladder' design, I'd make a combo side-by-side ladder & bookcase unit.
