Want to build your own? Get the digital plans at www.iliketomakestuff.com/product/bunk-beds-digital-plans/ For those of you saying that I could have just threaded the ladder in the right order, unfortunately you're wrong. No matter how you put them together, you eventually get to a point where to have to turn pieces in opposite directions to thread them. I don't know how to visually explain that but it just doesn't work. For the rungs, for instance, the threads would have to be opposite so that it would thread both ends ON at the same time. That same issue would happen somewhere regardless of the order of assembly. Hope that makes sense.
I guess the only workaround was to add a ton of 3-pieces conical joints, almost on every bar, somehow losing simmetry.. so well done grinding out those threads :D
This might be a small thing, but I really appreciate you showing that little bts at the end with your "real life" mess. As a parent, content creator, and aspiring maker myself, I never understand how people can do all that and still maintain a house. That little snipit helps me feel like it's not just me, which helps ease some frustration. Thanks as always for the great videos and work!
Not under hungrycolby my good sir. That's just my everyday account. I am on the in-house marketing team for the company I work for and make content there. Also working on another channel, but that isn't ready yet. But it also comes back to my original comment, there's a lot in life to juggle and it is nice to have creators like Bob actually show the real life elements here and there.
Haha thanks for keeping it real with the bloopers at the end! I feel like that is always the state of our house/shop/wherever we are shooting. Great project, love the home-related builds and seeing this room come together!
Congrats to your editor, you guys make really fun videos to watch, usualy on TH-cam this type of videos are very slow, i honestly don't think i will even try to build 90% of the things you build, but dam it's fun watching you do it xD
never usually comment; but really like how you've introduced Josh and still keep yourself as the main part of the video. Great video as always! Keep creating great content :) Proud to be here since 400k
Great job. I helped my Dad build bunk beds when I was young. But , that's a whole other story. One improvement I suggested to my Dad when we built our bunks was reading lamps. We mounted porch lights on the wall with individual switches. I loved it.😁
As someone who has slept in the bunk bed for over fifteen years, I love that you take into account the size of your kids and that that will not stay kids forever. Specially that they have space to move their heads cause that is an issue early in the morning when you have to hurry to school. I have no experience on woodwork, but I can say you are amazing and I deeply admire your work. Keep on being awesome and being such a great example to your kids.
You did all this for your kids, what a great dad. When I was little and was living in the refugee camp in Thailand, I didn’t have a bed, let alone a house.
I have 3 girls and a boy and I remember when they were small and had double bunks in their room...they took.up so much space! Great design...and no worrries...no one with kids has a clean house! We like to call it lived in! (Especially w 3 boys!!)
Why not just raise the lower bed on legs..landlord might not like you cutting up her illegal diffuser ducts.. Jailhouse look bed rails? Yeah.. im a critic
I have been searching for bunks beds to work for my growing daughters ages 5 & 7. I plan on following your tutorial to make my girls bunk beds. I am sure they will love this look. Thank you
(For those that say) Then you wouldn’t have learned, or had that experience, and been able to share it with the world. I’m not planning to build anything like that but, I surely did enjoy watching you and the process. Thanks!
You are such a genius!! That looks so good! it has that little rustic look to it which really makes the details pop out. Thanks for providing such great content. And, How come all the time, your voiceover is perfect with no errors!??
it seems so easy to make stuff if you have the right tools/knowledge and materials but, at the end of the day, i'm gonna guess you are still tired from all the heavy lifting, measuring, cutting, assembling and so on...great job man, love your videos :D
Hello mister Bob Sir, my name is Lizardo, and am one of 5 brothers (the oldest) and I particularly enjoyed this episode, and found it specially touching; because there was a time (many moons ago) when 4 of us shared a small room, however it was a much more modest set up, our dad built us the 2 beds allright, although in a much more basic and modest manner, as all he had was a hammer, a handsaw and lots of nails, and we did not have 4 beds, but instead we slept 2 brothers per bed. Nevertheless, that was a very special time for me, because I was together with my little brothers. Thanks for posting and sharing such a wonderful project sir.
13:45 seriously tho! I fricken LOVE THIS! I cannot tell you just how much I (and apparently others in the comment section..) appreciate the honesty! Too many times people show things that are far from the reality of every day life and that begins to take a toll on people, thinking they’re inadequate & that is just a really shitty feeling! So thank you for showing us the imperfections… it proves you’re human lol
Hi! Found your channel by chance while looking videos on building loft beds for adults. I find your videos clear and straightforward. Will continue to look up at your other videos too! :D
I envy your kids, they have an awesome dad that can make them stuff! :) 1 question though, when you put on the slats are those fixed on each bed? I didn't see you nail them down or glue them
I want to say this video really gave me a good idea on what I can do for my new room that I'll be moving into soon. Unfortunately my new room is significantly smaller compared to my current room and I have to share it with my twin brother, so this really helped in giving me an idea I could use to save some room :) I also love how organized, straight forward and how fast it transitioned from one step to the next. It's really well done!
these look so cool i love that you used these black pipes instead of colorful wooden rods and that finish on the wood i love it looks really really good
I hope those kids appreciate what u do for them. I wish i had a dad that could build me a kick ass bed. Sweet job, the first video i watched was the closet making
add pool noodles on the horizontal fall bars, else when the kids turn in their sleep, they don't hit their funny bone into hard pipe material... large dia pool noodles can also act as a filler material between the matress and the pipe, effectively slimming the open distance...
Great project Bob. I especially love way you supported the top bunk when fitting, oh and the colored panels are a fantastic touch. A tip I learned from my Dad when edge banding is to edge band the pieces before assembly which makes it easier to clean up. I hope that helps. Again what a great project.
I dont really understand what support this upper bed... This pipe? I have a feeling that's going to crack since first jump on it.. Really its magic for me... Please explain this to me if you can! ;P
So the wall side board and the head board are extremely secure. The metal bar secures the board away from the wall near the feet. So I guess the only structurally weak point would be on the board away from the wall near the head. I wouldn't lose any sleep over that. If you worried you could connect that metal bar on the top bunk near the head straight up to the ceiling and into a joist.
Looking good Bob, I grew up with a bunk bed myself and it was made by my father, so I think your boys will really enjoy those! The built in storage is a nice touch, I didn't have that!
Such a cool project and great video! Out of curiosity, since you said the home center will cut and thread the pipes for you, is it possible for them to do left handed threads on one side of each rung so that they could both sides of the ladder could be threaded in at the same time?
And it is the same as every other one out there. "Hey, look! I have the same bed as Jonny, Ralph, and George and Fred. Now we ALL have no identity of our own."
Want to build your own? Get the digital plans at www.iliketomakestuff.com/product/bunk-beds-digital-plans/

I Like To Make Stuff What a cool build. I see four beds and also two forts to play in. Great job.
I guess the only workaround was to add a ton of 3-pieces conical joints, almost on every bar, somehow losing simmetry.. so well done grinding out those threads :D
That's why they make these pieces called unions....
Thank you sir for teaching me the correct name for "3-piece joint" =D
I Like To Make Stuff I think you should build another lamp but make it so your boys can use it and it’s easy to move around

What do I think ? That it's another awesome project Bob and your family is very lucky to have you :)
Why no Casper sponsor spot? Would've fit perfectly with the project.

This was one of the videos I watched prior to making my own loft bed! Thank you for the idea. Definitely very helpful ❤️

The iron on trim was a great tip! Didn't know that existed and now I know how to finish off a shelf or bookcase. Thanks, great video.

Great video Bob. Luvvin' it.
Awesome beds wish I had them as a kid , you’re an awesome dad
Hey Bob. How would you get the bottom bunks off the ground so that you could add storage possibilities to it?
Dats da same thing I said in my comments thanks
& add a sitting bench on da end of da beds too dat would b a nice idea I think just my opinion no harm by it it still looks nice
My version of this video would be me going to the shops and buying ready made bunk beds
Those kids are spoiled what a great father😊
Great project Bob. I especially love way you supported the top bunk when fitting, oh and the colored panels are a fantastic touch.
