This song feels so human, so bittersweet, peaceful in its longing. Apotheosis via piano.

Yes, a massive recording. I once read a review that said that, once you listen to this (whole set), your life is never quite the same again. That was certainly the case for me.

OLIVER MACKIE: My Life was never the same again after an encounter with Jesus Christ. Music did not change my lifestyle anyway, but in a certain way this music touches my soul deeply, massively and profoundly - I can not explain it.... There is a magic in it (sorry for my english) Blessings!

You have to listen to PART 2 inclusively - there is that terrific bow over the two parts (Intro-Theme - - - Ending-Theme)!

Bless you for uploading this. The passage from 8:30 until 10:27 is my favorite in his entire live catalog.

+dougallcurrie I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates that passage. That one in particular gives me a wonderful chill every time it starts building up.

Yes, listening to Jarrett is like listening to a summary of my favorite classical composers, jazz gospel folk etc etc. It's hard for me not to play the piano like Jarrett. As much as I like it, I force to conjure my own muse in improvisation. I saw him solo in Boston when I was 8 yrs old in the early 1980's. I'd been taking classical lessons at the NE Conservatory. I could't concentrate on my homework for a week after listening to the concert, wondering how he did this and what improvisation meant. Ok , i rambled too much.

This disappears and reappears on TH-cam at the right times in my life. I’ve never owned Sun Bear (couldn’t afford it!), but Kyoto has always been my favorite. THANKS !

Unfassbar gut.

My paternal grandmother once asked me, How do you listen to this?-admittedly it wasn’t this recording-and one day in the future I will get her to understand.

I have carried Song Of The Heart in mine, and in my mind and ears, quite closely and clearly, since I heard it first in 1978, at 17. I do not stray far from it. It is the single air which I will carry with me to the hereafter when I go, hoping for a terrestrial-to-heavenly quantum leap. I can say that of no other Earthly composition. The Music Of The Spheres I do not have to concern about -- that will be there as surely as it has been here during life.

It's relaxing and reflective listening though he loses this timing from 4:13 until 4:28. But I miss Keith Jarrett's groaning and moaning on this recording!

    • @ltrizzle12

You mean he transitioned? In a free flow form of improvisational musical mastery? I don’t think there’s too much agreement from anyone that KJ “loses timing” at any moment. In an unbounded world created by the one who makes the rules of said world, such an assertion is impossible.
Besides, there’s myriad KJ transcriptions that correctly characterize his solo playing-in an otherwise standard duple meter-with sparse measures of 5/4, 7/8, etc. If he did this while performing with his trio or an orchestra to known compositions, only then would it seem a degree detrimental.
