    So, it’s 01:40 am and I’ve just finished sponge floating off my first ever bit of rendering. Whilst it’s not perfect I’m over the moon with how it looks. (Or should that be under the moon)
    Just want to say a big thank you for making this and giving me the confidence to have a go. 👍

    Thanks for the great Vids, I had a go today at the scratch coat, I mixed as you said and wet the wall (concrete blocks) and thought I'd had a lovely creamy mix, when I started applying, it seemed to go off quite quickly? (very difficult to straight edge level the wall) After seeing this, I'm guessing the wall needs to be very wet as the sun was on it today, also just wondered the thickness you would ordinarily put on, I didn't use beads, I'm going to try the straight edge method, appreciate your advice.
    Regards

    What would u recommend to do to prep a boundary wall before rendering, it’s a higher level behind & possible damp could track through as there is no treatment on the other side!. Would it also be problematic as the blocks have nothing but a fence on top. Great work as always👍🏻

  • @kasimpivano943
    @kasimpivano943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Blain please explain why you use tends mix aswell the lime, the lime serves the same purpose as the renda mix including waterproofing, easier workability, and provides flexibility to the render when dry.

    • @PlasteringForBeginners
      @PlasteringForBeginners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use FEB Rendamix. I know it had the same attributes as Lime but I just prefer the workability that the Rendamix provides. I've often just tried Lime on it's own but it's never as nice or creamy. Try it...it's so much better with them both In the mix. I don't think you'll regret it 👍

    Another great video, just a query thou, I've been told you cant go straight to the bottom brick on rendering due to possible dampness? Usually on houses the the first two bricks are left on show and not rendered? Or is it different as this is an extension? Also, do you have a video on how to apply a bead / edge along the bottom so its nice and neat when you do leave 2/3 bricks exposed?

    Cheers another top vid. We learned a lot from your render 'fail' vid and the water sprayer looks like a great shout. You say that you spray the scratch coat until you can see the water on the surface and it's no longer being soaked up. Do you recommend the same for the original surface? (Concrete blocks, old brick etc) before applying the scratch coat?

    Quick question if your trying to straighten up a old stone wall say with scratch costs how thick can you put render on? 2 scratch coats and 1 finish coat Upto 15mm each time ?

    • @simonthompson2107
      @simonthompson2107 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do 7mm per coat with a deeper area being slightly deeper and a bulging area slightly less. You may get slagging or slumping in the render and it will fall off while ruling.

    loving the content, I notice that you put wavy lines in your scratch, I was always told to do this as it relieves the stress in the render, I dubbed out on a job we were doing & got some lads in to finish the wet dash off, they were moaning saying that the wavy scratch holds water in the loops & they always use a straight scratch. why do you use wavy lines?

    • @hugheseire4835
      @hugheseire4835 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I worked with a plasterer before with 30 years on the the job wavy scratch is for show offs the fancy way to do it and it prevents cracking or so on a straight scratch does the same thing.
