      Yep, it doesn't just feel as 'Roman'. Purple would be good too, if it wasn't already used by SPQR. Maybe there is a mod for vanilla that ammends faction colours.

      Not only for this but also for the low difficulty .... it is worth remembering that the brutii have a good position, but fighting against phalanges its sucks, mainly "armored phalanges" in my opinion the easiest campaign, is the one of the scipios, being that the Carthage army is a shit.
      Scipios = easy
      Julii = medium
      Brutii = hard

      joao silva you can beat easy phalanxes. even if they have figthing bonus against cavalry. just attack from rears and behind. and play the game at medium battle diffuculty and very hard campaign diffuculty. otherwise greek peasants can beat your berserkers with +8 bonuses ;)

    • @animemusic4113

      @@Djawadi90 the problem is the hoplites with more experience, they do not break so easy, and usually AI puts many of them in the battle at once, so the longer the army is more difficult to break.
      It really is not IMPOSSIBLE to defeat them, but it sucks at the beginning of the game, it takes me a long time .....

    I've actually stopped playing as the Roman factions on RTW and recently started playing as the Non-Roman factions as I think it's more fun and intense because with the Roman factions, (especially the Brutii) you're guaranteed to win most battles and u can auto-resolve most of them and take as little casualties as possible as the game chooses the Roman factions to be really powerful over the other factions in the game, but with the Non-Roman factions, when u fight the Romans, u have to play the battles manually as you're more likely to lose if u auto-resolve, in my opinion, it's more intense and enjoyable gameplay!

    You can't go wrong with any of the Romans. What kind of enemies do I want to fight seems to be the main factor in my decision when I start a new game at this point. My only suggestion would be; don't go out of your way to box in the other Romans. Just take the natural path for your faction. The only real late game challenge for a Roman faction will be another Roman faction. Crippling them will make the civil war a doddle and the challenge of the game will be over after you hit like 30 provinces.

      Completely true, but my challenge was in fact boxing them in at the start, and they kept me running. Ever seen scippii take Sparta as a fourth province? Halfway through the map i found the perfect moment: the main army boarding one small bireme... A collision at sea can ruin your entire day indeed. I let my ships escort them on their way, and gathered, trained and hired new armies and assasins all around theirs, and in one intense, week-spanning turn, obliterated all but one. Five or six turns later, there was peace again, and now im rushing Susa, Hyperborea and Campus Alani before my first faction leader dies of old age. Roma Victor!

      I disagree - I prefer to play Julii faction by ignoring the barbarians in the early game and focus on Carthage and maybe get a couple of Greek footholds as well: by the endgame I will have taken North Africa and the Middle East while Brutii has dealt with most of the barbarian peoples in Europe - leaving me poised to strike a decisive blow at both Rome and Scipii early on and then mop up the Brutii (and the remaining barbarians) as the game goes on.

      Had to agree, I just finished my second campaign on RTW mobile in the first i got massacred during the civil war so i decided to cockblock the Brutii and went immediately for Greece and Egypt, while i never had any real issues with economy or public order, the ending felt anticlimactic i sieged Rome and it had 146 soldiers as a garrison, i thought it would be a 4000 man battle but when I sieged Rome I was very dissapointed, I took on both the Scipii and the Brutiii at the same time with no real issue and mind you that was my first completed campaign.

    Brutii are by far the easiest to play, Scipii the hardest, with Julii giving a moderately difficult experience. Right now though I have an excellent Julii campaign going on by expanding in multiple directions at once.
    By the way, protip: Corinth and Rhodes are the two most important cities in the game. Each has a key wonder. Corinth provides a global loyalty boost which enables you to have higher taxes, and Rhodes boosts naval trade. Regardless of what faction you play, take these two cities and hold them and you will never have economic problems again.

      The thing with the Greeks is that you have to take advantage of your start with spartans, and just mow down southern greece within 5 turns. You also need to either hold Syracuse or dump it, and pay attention to pontians and selucids for pergamum.

    • @snowisthebestweather
      @snowisthebestweather 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The Julii probably put up more of a defense because the Brutii probably just had their 1st two cities, while the Julii probably had several, letting them field more armies. The strength of the Brutii comes from taking Greece, and if you're playing as the Greek Cities, they can't do that.

  • @atmosrex7126

    When I played Julii, it was easy to steamroll the barbarians but once civil war came I found myself fighting Romans with richer, developed, more defensible cities and got my teeth kicked in by the richer Brutii and lost most of my cities. IDK if I played wrong or what, maybe I just rushed getting into the civil war while I was in an already pretty messy war with Egypt, but it made me not too confident in the Julii even though I like the faction the most.
    I am a Seleucid Guy too. If given time to develop and get their units, they have one of the most well rounded rosters in the game.

  • @user-ck3bo8wd4p
    @user-ck3bo8wd4p ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Started a new game on remastered recently as the Brutii. I always play the Julii, so I wanted to mix things up. My goodness it's a rough start. Field battles are easy with enough cavalry, but you can't just roll in when you seige, because of the phalanxes guarding tight roads. I had to actually sit there for multiple turns besieging. Made the game a slow slugging match early on and I lost a lot of men.
    All my Julii campaigns always had hardened veteran troops because barbarians are easy kills, but it's a meat grinder for me as the Brutii. I eventually triumphed and now have over 300k in the bank and always make over 20k a turn. You can have multiple fleets and a dozen full stack armies and still maintain this income... I'm just steamrolling the east and prepping for the civil war.

    Am I the only one who likes "civilizing" barbarians with Julii? Those provinces just needs some investment and "population management" and they will prosper. What I mean by population management is spamming peasants in high pop(and pop growth) provinces and sending them to low pop barbarian province to upgrade settlement. Therefore getting access to more province improvements and lowering culture penalty. It's like that TLC show where they buy trash houses then renovate and sell them. This strategy makes harder to spawn Marian reforms early but I just love roleplaying.
    Btw Upgrading provinces that has coast to Western mediterranean(Massalia, Caralis, Narbo Martius etc.) will boost your trade income massively.

    Scipii are the best. Exclusively have the best boats in game, none of their temples give your family members negative traits, they can attain gold chevron armour and weapons, the best bonuses to mining income, best managerial traits, location means nothing as BOATS EXIST and ANY faction has access to all mercenaries and the only non starting settlement that's almost impossible to steal off your roman allies is Segesta, but still possible. The other roman factions seem to have massive problems compared to the scipii. Brutii are destined to have corrupt, angry or hypochondriac family members because of the traits their temples trigger. The julii have no temple that offers an initial bonus to troops, in fact the only useful temple it has is ceres (fertility) which gives your family members fertility traits to boost your family (which is correlated with the amount of regions controlled anyway so maxes out making it eventually useless) Yes the brutii may seem the best to an inexperienced player with its bonus to experience, early gladiators, and quick money bonus with their temples of trade (but eventually corrupts them). But in the long run I would rather have a family with traits that I don't have to micromanage, gold armour and weapons, and the best boats in a game where you have to autoresolve every single boat battle in this heckin game. And the best thing about scipii is people don't even seem to understand how good they are because they get a boner over brutus.

    The Brutii have though enemies like Greece and Macedon (Macedon if unchecked will go absolutely berserk in the Balkans) and later Pontus/Armenia (one of the two always go insanely strong in the Near East) and maybe even in late game Egypt (which always seems to do good), but they have the huge advantage that they can rapidly gain strong and rich cities in Greece and Turkey. If you are quick you can quite easily decimate the Greeks, Macedons and also eliminate Pontus and those eastern factions before they grow strong. Then you have a strong rich empire ready to make the best troops.
    The Julii have weak enemies (the Gauls and Germans can't really progress in terms of troops and once you know how to beat a barbarian army it is a piece of cake), so they can gain lots of land in short time, but the downside is that those lands are highly underpopulated. You can't advance till the next city level for better troops until late game in most cities there. The Julii are still my favourite tho cause I find them the most "true" Romans.
    The Scipii can gain Sicily, which is a rich island and from there you can easily build large strong armies quickly and sail them all over the world, for example to bypass the Brutii and quickly steal their supposed-to-have cities. Carthago and that city under it, Thapsus I believe, are also good cities but the other cities in Africa are kinda crap. Also Africa is huge so it takes a while just to take some small settlement like Nepte. Carthago can be a daunting enemy faction, but they never really advance cause they lose their possessions in Sicily, Spain etc. rather quickly. If you fight them early off in the game as the Scipii you shouldn't really have problems.
    My list as best Roman factions is:
    Brutii (if played right) --》 Julii --》 Scipii although the Julii and Scipii are roughly tied.

    Scipii hardest because you start split by water and against a faction owned city (not just some rebel village) before then having to war with Carthage and then Numidia who are very spread out and have a lot of not great places and even good ones like Carthage are just always annoyed. If you can get to Egypt or take over what the brutii should be doing you'll be ok but they have it rough

Then I moved against the Seleucid s and the parthians. After defeating those my campaign was quiet. I started losing money fast since I had too many Armies. Then the senate told me to Suicide my leader twice. The third time I resisted and they outlawed me.

      If I remember correctly because I haven't played the game for a long time, you can unlock other factions by eliminating them from the campaign map. Some factions still remain unplayable though, but you can unlock them by changing the values in the game files. That way, you could play armenia or the scythians for example, which are otherwise locked.

    Scipii are best... Why? The Temples are the best. Giving gold-armour and one of the best ships in the game. They are the Soldiers... It wasn´t that hard to fight Carthage in the game cause the backbone of there army is the iberian infantry and horseman. Greece? No Problem either cause the Phalanx is weak on the flanks. Sacrife one or two Hastati and get them with Principes... Sicilly will grow as hell so the temple of Neptune is a good option to get citizens into sailor and lower the population. I conquered Rome in the late game with fresh build urban-cohorts with no exp. but win cause they had level 3 armour. Scipii are superior.

The biggest challenge was Egypt as they are the only one manage to boomed and ended 3 civilizations by themselves.

Brutii, I found to be difficult but not as bad as scipii, as you can take Sicily early yo cut of scipii, you will then be in a 2 front war as Carthage and Greece fight you

    The Scipii are a very good faction to choke the other Romans which comes in handy for the Roman civil war. Taking Salona, Segestica and Aquincum early on will prevent the Brutii from getting a decent foothold outside of Italy, which will make it harder for them to conquer Greece, which will take much longer for them. While The Brutii are struggling to conquer Greece, you take Crete and use it to invade Rhodos and Asia Minor. Within a few years you have conquered three world wonders and some very profitable provinces in the East. If you are swift, you might also be able to snatch Corinth away from the Brutii, so that they will have none of the 7 world wonders, while you already have four. You can also choke the Julii by conquering Massilia, which will delay the expansion of the Julii towards Gaul. While you scramble together some of the nicest and richest provinces on the map (Chersones and Cyrene are nice picks too), you just have to make sure that you don't wage a large scale war with Carthage. I know, that sounds weird, but it works. The other Roman factions won't expand into norther Africa for a long time, so you can delay your conquest of this region for quite a while. Use this time to grab other regions that the Julii or the Brutii would conquer, such as Spain, Illyria, Rhodos and parts of Asia Minor. If you managed that, you can conquer North Africa which is pretty much invulnerable during the civil war, since you have by far the best fleet. You can use that fleet to cut the Brutii off from their towns in Italy, or their possessions in the East, or you invade the realm of the Julii from Spain.

      Best temple for Growth = Juno (Brutii)
      Best temple for war, well it's debatable. Early bonuses goes to Mars, Vulcan is best on pantheon level.
      I just mod whichever faction i'm playing to have the best of three worlds

    • @fouronetwo813
      @fouronetwo813 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Julii's Jupiter is under rated. +1 for each stat priest and money saved from reduced corruption. Ceres is useful to help cities grow without the growth bonus being permanent. Bachus will turn your generals retarded but keeping one around for the +2 influence (i think) priest is worth it. Julii Temples are pretty good imho. Other two factions can get higher quality troops, that's just facts.
      All in all i think the Julii in general are under rated. I think people don't exactly play them right. They go slogging through France and Germany too early. I suggest people do as the actual Romans did. Rome conquered Spain before Gaul and Germania. Take the coastal provinces from Massilla to Corduba. Then take the whole of Spain before you go further north then Narbo Martis or cross the Rhine.

    • @frisianmouve
      @frisianmouve 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ram Stones Yeah you're not required to go after the barbarians as the Julii all the time. Last time I played them I only took northern italy, massillia and Illyricum and then took as much of Greece and anatolia as possible before the brutii took it. Gallia will never be as profitable as Greece so why go for it? Even Spain is better than Gallia. And yeah Jupiter is a fine temple, but I still prefer Saturn because it acts as an armourer as well on pantheon level. And you can build Ceres for growing low pop settlements, but Juno does that better

The Brutii spend the rest of the game with just Croton, Tarentum, Apollonia, and Segestica, and are easy to wipe out during the Civil War. The Scipii are the Roman faction best suited to neutralizing the others in the early-game.

  • @lars9925

  • @cdcdrr
    @cdcdrr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree, the Scipii are the better choice. Carthage and Syracuse and later Egypt have an abundance of wheat, which means you will grow and tech up rapidly. Their holdings can ship this grain to other coastal regions, stimulating their growth as well as long as you keep the sealanes open, which is made easier with the temple of Neptune and the advanced ships it provides. Further, they are the only faction that can build temples to Vulcan, which grants unit upgrades the other two families can never get. The Scipii units can still gain experience to match the Brutii's temple of Mars, but the Brutii can never max out armour, missile and attack bonuses. The Murmillo gladiator, if you use them, is also far superior to the Velite gladiator.

  • @randomweeb6997
    @randomweeb6997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Carthage has very poor army outside of Elephants, once they've dealt with fighting Carthage is a joke. Where Scipii have trouble is in the mid-game. Once you deal with Carthage, Numidia and Spain, you have to bumble around in desert for a long time before stumbling onto Egypt, and there is a chance that Egyptians will be way too much for you.
    Julii have a problem of mid-game too. The cities of Gauls and Germans are poor and usually have their population overdrafted. So, no strong units for you most of the time. On top of that, Britons have chariots, and without those strong units, you're going to have quite a time dealing with them. That said, I also like to capture Iberia while playing as Julii, so that gives quite a lot of slaves to be migrated into Gaullic and Germanic cities.

    • @MachinegunnerMugZ
      @MachinegunnerMugZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How on earth can't you afford to transport your armies by sea after conquering Carthage, Numidia and Spain? I mean you have to be filthy rich by that time. Btw, small unit scale option will totally let barbarians develop their settlements sky high.

    • @randomweeb6997
      @randomweeb6997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is doable from that region, but this time you will bumble around in the sea, which isn't much better option. If anything, it's better to attack Egypt from Greece since there are a ton of developed cities there that allow you to pump armies left and right, and, unlike Africa, that region prints money like crazy.
      As for the small scale, I am just not used to it, and prefer to play on huge scale.
