    To clarify: to be able to use this effect on live audio, you do the exact same set of effects, but on a mixer channel where your mic is, rather than on a track with recorded audio. I changed the pitch of my voice using a 3rd party plugin called Pitchproof, which I put at the start of the chain. Hope that helps!

    How many semitones did you pitchshift the vocal? What exactly is the breathing sfx?

      I set the pitch shift by ear. Every voice is a little different. And the breathing sound was just a file I found online. If you want to make your own from scratch, record a scuba rebreather, and pitch shift it down.

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most solutions aren't great. You could put it on a Raspberry Pi if you're feeling techy, could use a TC Helicon Perform-VE if you want to spend a lot of money, or you could get a cheap Darth Vader voice changer if you're okay with poor quality. That's my best guess right now. A lot of people have asked about it, so I think I might do some more serious research and make a video on it.

    And here are my few observations on the work i've been doing with Darth Vader's voice. After having realize successfuly your tutorial with a pretyy good result, I started a new work to bring a bit of amusement to very dear friends of mine. And i decided to re use Vader's voice. And here are the interesting facts I observed.
    First : for Vader's voice, you absolutely must respect the way he talks, the rythm of his diction. If you do not, you will have, at best, an effect that sounds pretty similar, but with the sensation of a fabricated voice that tries to be like - which is not what we want. And the result is something - or someone, with a robotic voice, but not Vader.
    Second : if you succed in creating Vader's voice speaking english, it may happens that in an other languages - french and spanish in my case, the settings of the plugins are no longer suitable. As a matter of fact, I had to change almost every parameters of each plugins to succeed in creating again Vader's voice in french.
    Wondering why such a thing happens, my best guess is that every different language magnify specific frequencies, giving it it's very own noise footprint. And that's because of the very specific noise footprint of each language that the levels of each parameters in every plugins might be adapted.
    It seems to me that i got another point to share with all of you guys, but I don't remember it right now. Anyway, if I do, I'll be back. Good Vader guys!!

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good observation. For a lot of vocal effects, the vocal performances makes a HUGE difference in how the final result sounds. This is especially true for Darth Vader. It's basically just James Earl Jones, with a comb filter on his voice.
      As for different plugin settings for different languages, it had never crossed my mind that different languages would magnify different frequencies, and thus require different EQ settings. But, it kind of makes sense. More likely, there are differences between different VOICES, which require different EQ settings. So if you just copied the EQ curve on my example, which was tailored to my voice, it would probably sound weird on your voice.
      That's why I try to teach people concepts, not settings. If people know how EQ works, they'll be able to set it to match their vocalist, rather than just trying to copy the plugin settings I'm using and being surprised when it doesn't work.

  • @AhdamEDour

    Hi there! I don't suppose you'd know how to do this using a live Mixer board? (GoXLR?) I am still new at all this, and trying to figure out if it is possible to use it on there. Though there's way more settings than I thought, and trying to follow in the tutorial (stupidity on my part) is much more difficult than I thought it would be! Any advice?

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There may be an FX preset on there that resembles Darth Vader. However, a GoXLR doesn't give you the degree of customization that a DAW would.

    Hi mate,
    yes, you're right. Just to practice, I first downloaded the file to have your voice and focus on setting the T7 plugins correctly without having to say the text myself. But what you wrote her above is right. Above the differences that go with the different languages, the main difference is the kind of each voice.
    For example, mine is baryton, which means that the setiings - as you said, of your voice will never work with mine. Anyway, I succeeded in doing a Vader's voice not so bad, and now that I get my rack with every plugin set just fine for my voice, wether I speak french, spanish or english doesn't change anything because it's always my voice.
    Well, just a few adjustments for each language as I said before, but nothing as bigger as when you have to set the whole thing because you change from a tenor to a baryton voice for instance.

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can see, MorphVox abstracts a lot of the control away. I don't know if it lets you do specific things like set a delay time. Maybe try something like a robot setting? A lot of these pre-built effect suites are designed to produce a particular effect, rather than give you the freedom to make your own effects (like what I'm doing here).

      Some of the plugins (e.g. ReaDelay) are 3rd party, so you can use them in any DAW with VST support. Others are FL-native (e.g. FL's equalizer) but Logic should have its own versions of those. Either way, you should be fine.

    Hey
    thanks for your answer. What I mean with "waves" is the graphical represntation of the sound that any DAW draws while recording for instance. And in my case, T7 DRAW only one wave thought, when I imported your voice, it displays two waves. but, anyway, you answer my question : your mic is mono like mine. And i understand even less why i don't get two wave like you??? Maybe your DAW generates a stereo file - i don't know, i'am guessing ...

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      "imported your voice", meaning you downloaded the video file? Well, the raw recording was in mono. However, I added a reverb to the final recording, to put it in a space. And most software reverbs are in stereo. So that probably explains the stereo effect going on.

    Yo mate
    Here I am again. I have kept working on the vader's voice - l'll be describing the facts i noticed later on your channel, I think It might be interesting if not for you who may already know it, but mostly for other susbcribers I think.
    But my point today is that I notice that the track of your voice appears composed of two waves - like in stereo, while mine only displays one wave - i am using the very classic SM58. Does it means that the mic you used for Vader's tutorial is a stereo one and since i got only one wave, that the SM58 is mono?

    • @ShallieDragon
      @ShallieDragon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not exactly. You can definitely set the output of a DAW to route to a voice chat with your friends. However, most options that let you use live effects with your friends are going to be "heavy." If you don't use a DAW, you can instead use a hardware effects processor (e.g. the TC-Helicon Perform VE), but they cost $200. You might be able to find cheaper hardware or software options, but they'll likely be very limited or poor quality.
