Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Mix The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story Disney would tell you. It’s a Sound-designer legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sound, so powerful and so wise he could use the FX to influence the MIDIchlorians to create sounds… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the projects he cared about from being corrupted. The dark side of the FX is a pathway to many synths some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his samples, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save files from corruption, but not himself.

Terrific stuff! I'm part of the custom lightsaber community and we install soundboards into empty replica sabers and people are always making custom saber sounds to download onto the boards. Cool reproduction.
But imagine how they did it on analog equipment in 1977, they didn't have this software making it relative easy.
They had to use big mixing tables to put the sounds trough all filtering, gain and EQ, and probably used reel to reel tape decks with variable speed control to alter the pitch of the different saber strikes.

@@blaster1185 I apologize for Hash's rude behavior since this is my comment reply section. Pitched Noise is a noise of high pitch, meaning its a very, very loud ringing noise caused by external factor and its not to be confused with Tinnitus. Some like me hear it and its very piercing and sometimes painful, some dont hear it which is perfectly normal, just some people can hear more distant or complex noises than you, and the drawback for us is, everything is louder and its discomforting and we are more at risk for hearing damage for it, its not as serious as complete deafness, but we do enjoy listening with %100 of our ears and not %70 or %50. The alert is put up, voluntarily, by me because I know other people can hear as well as I do. It hurt and I know it can hurt for others, that is why I put it up.

I remember that TV set, so cool. Brionvega also made iconic ones back in the day. I just salvaged an old AKG dynamic mic so I could try that too buy by using some radio hum, got no TV. Cool way to celebrate May 4th ;)

Watching this video was compelling and fascinating; recreating the lightsaber sound is more complex than it seems to us meer mortals.

I've seen on SW making of DVD's that the first idea of light saber sound came from and electric shaver vibrating in an aluminium bowl ! But what a result here, seems really fun to fight your monitor with a mic 😅😎
