VW more and more has the benefit that its competitors are no longer sold. The i30N and the i20N are both no longer sold. The Fiesta ST is no longer sold, the Focus ST is still sold but probably not for much longer. The new BMW 1 series is a joke against the Golf, the Type R isnt really all that desired in Europe at least, i dont think the Corolla GR is sold in Europe, at least here in Germany. Of course you can always buy used but if youre in the market for a new car, VW for instance has lots of good leasing deals on these, there really isnt much competition nowadays.
The Corolla GR is indeed not sold in Europe, and the GR Yaris is waaaay too overpriced for what it is. The i30N and i20N not being sold anymore is an incredible shame, those cars were amazing. I gues there's still Mercedes with the A class, but that's very limited.
@Xzibitfreek the GR Yaris is too small if you want a full usable daily and got way too expensive with the facelift. The Civic Type R is great I guess, but you don't get discount on it for my knowledge. So you're looking at a 10.000€ price difference between GTI Clubsport and Civic Type R.
Due to European regulations, these German cars will also disappear. The real competition lies between Chinese cars and European cars. However, since Europe insists on making all cars environmentally friendly, they have become too expensive to produce.
I'm actually very surprised on how positive you speak about the 8.5 CS. VW really seem to improved the car alot compared to the pre-facelift. I like it much better now too, the mk8 was a no-go for me with the interior quality, missing steering wheel buttons, missing climate illumination etc. Makes me consider changing my 7.5 GTI to the 8.5 CS
had a 7.5 gti tcr before and had the opportunity to test the 8.5 gti. drives and feels kinda good tbh and the clubsport is probably even better. Went for the rs3 but the 8.5 felt really good.
@@tubejorrit TCR is a great car tbh. imo the 7.5 is the peak golf and the TCR is the top of the lineup. also its cheaper than the 8.5 so i would go with it.
- You can still have a red stripe at the front. This car just has an optiol Black design package. - The brakes are bigger than on the regular GTI, at least on the front. - I'm pretty sure there's a 'real' manual mode on the Clubsport as well, like on the R. There must be an S+ mode where it doesn't upshift by itself. Can you please check this or someone else confirm it? Because that would be very important for me.
I have the Car on my own. When you are in Special Mode and shift with the Pedals the Gearbox is in M+ Mode. The Car wont upshift, it just revs until the Limiter. And it also wont change back to automatic mode. Maybe if you drive a very long time in the same gear on the Autobahn, but it never happend with my car.
@Lukas-sv4ft I currently have an 8.5 GTI Clubsport for test driving. I can't go into M+ mode. I wonder if this is only available in combination with DCC, because my test car doesn't have DCC and doesn't have the Nürburgring/Special mode. Does yours have DCC?

Also the sound problem is not directly a VW decision. All new cars need to have an OPF (Otto Particle Filter) right after the catalytic converter. That thing takes out a LOT of the sound, but it's required by law now. There's only so much left what you can do with a fancy exhaust now.

I think the pause and then kick is just a delay and the dsg engaging the clutch very abruptly after downshifting. My mk8 gti 245ps non-clubsport does the same thing. It’s fun when it kicks you back
Let me understand, the mode you can shift is driving mode like comfort, sport, individual not about transmission. No manual mode but you can manually control your gears using gear shift on steering wheel?
I have the gti mk7.5 and I am really interested in the golf r but the price is a lot of money 💰. Still not sure if it’s worth it but I have driven the a3 Audi and that was really nice for less money.

I love Golfs, but I don't like that the multimedia isn't integrated in the dashboard like the previous models, it's too flashy and the driver has less visibility, it sticks 5cm over the dashboard wtf. And the shiny front grill is gonna be full of rock hits in the first test drive, especially at the parts where its closed without open vents. The distronic is the first thing for some thief to steal also... better without it!
the display is bigger but it kinda does not suit in a golf the old mk8 one looks far better on the dash itself, and the stearing wheel those belowed buttons look like from 2000 i really like the future look of the mk8 they could fix that annoying on offf mistakes with a double tap .... it just needed some love with the touch stuff overall mk8 dash looks better and it fits better in 2025 as mk8.5 does... its just people who still live in the past. I drive my mk8 on twisty in the alps alot and it was only once that the steering heater turned on so from my view really do not know what is the problem with the touch pads ( they do need a bit of touch up but as tech goes on its normal)
not sure if it's just the pick-up of the audio but man, those doors ... they sound hollow on open and close. I don't know why this always bothers me, but a nicely supple "thungg" just gives off value. versus a clunky sound.

Someone who actually needs to use it as a serious A to B tool: i.e. needs a car to do 30,000 miles a year over the next three years, day and night, all weathers, with minimal unscheduled maintenance and warranty for anything that does need doing. Which is why I keep a modern car alongside my old ones

From a driving dynamics perspective the Golf 8 and 8.5 are far superior.
I‘m honestly really impressed by this. It has some serious acceleration and Top speed. I really like the improvement of the 8.5.

@PietroTellini in Germany, it's possible to get over 20% discount on the GTI Clubsport at the moment. Then the price is ok, in my opinion.

clubsport has golf R brakes to my understanding, much stronger than GTI Ser
wrong, clubsport brakes are lighter than R brakes, same size, that's how it was for mk7.5 anyway

They have finally "fixed" the interior of the Mk8 GTI . This is what the release Mk8 GTI interior should have been
