      Yeah he likes hanging around. Sometimes he tries to help me with what I am doing so I have to stop what I am doing so I can monitor what he is doing haha. It is Australia after all. Who knows what spiders are lurking out there.

      Thank you. My son enjoys playing in the garden, and I'm lucky that he knows not to hurt my plants haha! I think being around plants at such a young age helps. I started the garden last year, and he was only a bit over a year old at the time. He learned walking in our grassy back yard too.

    Love the display, beautifully kept succulent garden. 10 out of 10 :D!That being said, you let a toddler mess with an edge cutter in sandels.. Do you not see the problem there?

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Adam, thanks for the concern! You probably know this but it's not really sharp and won't do any actual cutting unless you applied enough force on it. It is also pretty light as you can see him effortlessly lift it. So its own weight would not be enough to crush or cut his toes.
      With that said, I agree that something wrong could happen, which is why I only let him play with it for a few seconds before I put it away.
      Thanks for calling it out though! I will be more mindful of this next time.

    Hi Chuck, you said that you usually pluck off the dead leaves by touch. I'm curious, do you ever come across spiders? I haven't encountered many spiders in my succulents but I'm a balcony gardener and my plants are all in pots. I wonder if it's different when your succulents are in the ground.

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. Yeah I do encounter spiders, and I know which ones are venomous and which ones aren't. I find that they mostly hide during the day, or as long as it is still bright out. They tend to be there when it is dark. This of course excepts the ones that have their web in a very visible spot.
      I find that the redback spiders tend to make their home in the cracks between the large rocks, basically somewhere that it's hard to get to unless you're really planning to do something between those rocks. Also, you'll see lots of their web around the entrance of their lair. You'll see the web long before the spider, so I know to stay away or at least wear gloves. I have never seen them make underneath plants their dwelling. I guess this is because they prefer dark cave-like structures, because they are less likely to be disturbed.
      Because of this, I make sure to only do this during the day, when it is bright, and only do between the rocks with webs if I am wearing gloves.

    Your Garden is beautiful! How did you come to accumulating all these plants? Did you start small and propagate and stuff through the years or did you buy a lot of these? I'm so jealous? This is my goal but I'm waiting game til I buy a house to plant any outsude. Right now I'm slowly buying small $2-5 plants and then propagating to make more!

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Candace Elder a bit of both! I started out with just 4 pieces of echeveria elegans that I got for $2.50 each. Then I started asking friends for cuttings. Soon after I turned to Gumtree and found someone selling cheap cuttings so I bought some off her too.
      About a month since I started collecting, I met this echeveria collector and after seeing his collection, my mind blew! I bought lots of pups from him (I still do today, occasionally haha!)
      Soon after that I thought of planting them in the ground. Things only "got worse" after that. There was lots of space to work on so I hoarded. I got more plants from a combination of propagation, swaps, and purchases.
      It doesn't end. Soon after I can no longer find new specimens (that I don't have yet) in the $10 or less range so I started going for the $10-20 ones.
      I have come to the point that the most expensive plant I bought cost me $70. Not regreting it though, since I put a lot of thought before spending that big haha! I save for months so... yeah.

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nowadays I am no longer rushing to get new plants so I usually just do swaps or wait until I manage to sell a bit of my excess so I have the money to buy new ones. As of last month, I've stopped dipping from my savings and just relied on my own earnings from these plants. (which means I don't buy as often now)

      Did you design it all?

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Candace Elder I started collecting October last year, and yeah I worked on the design on my own. It started small and I kept expanding until I have what you see now. The whole thing went through multiple revisions already.

      I am not yet good at colour grading, either that or tinatamad lang ako, so most of the time my clips from my phone do not match the video clips of my dslr. Hassle magtimpla haha!

    What the potting mixture u use...can u let me know abt he combination of soil u use....

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late reply. Didn't see your comment sooner!
      It is not humid in my climate, so I can get away with just using cheap potting mix and mix it with 7mm pebbles to make it coarser. In more humid climates, you'll probably have to use scoria/pumice instead as those can absorb the excess water.
