    A GM points distributor #1 plug wire is the 1st left of the points adjustment window where #4 is in your diagram. 8:40 don’t waste your time with the screwdriver. Once the gear is meshed with the cam gear it will rotate with the engine. Just continue to rotate the engine and the distributor will eventually drop and be engaged with the oil pump rod.

    Great video.One bit of advice. Don't waste your money on a points distributor. Use an HEI or MSD.You spent all that money on the motor, don't get cheap when it comes to ignition.Those point distributors are outdated headaches especially on a performance motor.

      Only thing I can guess is this is a sponsored video. It doesn't make any sense to put on $3500 of aluminum heads, roller rockers, mild cam...probably a $6000 build with machine work altogether and then a $50 distributor with points? C'mon man. LOL

    All you have to do is mesh the helix gear into the cam with the rotor pointing at #1 TDC on a compression stroke, regardless where the oil pump drive tang is facing. Then simply rotate the crankshaft until the distributor falls into the oil pump tang, it's that simple. Don't wast your time turning the oil pump drive shaft with a screw driver.

    I watched this whole series last night. Thank you it was a good watch.
    One question I had is, what exactly did you have the machine shop do? Was it just: Bore .030 over, align hone, index rods, and grind crank? Just trying to not miss something when sending a block off to be machined.

      @75zl1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JuneEBug-gy6nt I understand points, but not sure why anyone would use them today. Electronic ignition is NEARLY set and forget and not a unnecessary maintenance item like points. There is a reason they went to it in the 70s and why it was an "upgrade" before that. Both will make the exact same power... one just does it without having to deal with maintenance.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Like I said in the video I wanted to keep it bespoke to the era of my car. I'm a younger guy in the hot rodding world and I want to experience points for myself. All my past cars had electronic ignition so its also nice to mix things up sometimes. Thanks for watching! :)
