Thanks to Mason and Horo for talking up the Pacific Championship and being the first podcasters/commentators to recognise the dark horse of Tonga for this tournament. There is a whole Polynesia community of rugby league fans out there waiting for the rest of the RL world to get as excited as they are about the potential of the Tongan and Samoan sides. These teams are a couple of injuries, available players and a few potential players away from Australia and New Zealand. If England toured the Pacific they would find it very tough to get a win over these countries with near their top squads. Exciting times are coming.
    Great work guys.

So true about the way the boys break down the game. I have been a lifelong Manly fan and watch their game every week. Since watching this podcast, I have watched the game differently, and now find myself a fan of footy in general, and will watch 3-4 games a week.

Don’t get me wrong Munster has had some crazy performances in big games but I can also remember big games where he hasn’t been at his best. They mentioned where was the blow up and the rules about making yourself available the year Joshua Schuster made himself unavailable for Samoa to get himself ready for the next season for manly? What’s the difference? Media was about good in him, etc etc. Samoa didn’t make a big deal about it. Next man up mentality. Definitely makes sense as to why. Thoughts boys on this pov.

I think what broke the storm was in the 70th minute when the Storm had 3 sets on penriths line and getting dragged into touch. Hey boys love the pod. In regards to the World Club Challenge I have a proposal
Imagine this - Round One Vegas 2026. You have your handful of games as usual but it ends with the World Club Challenge.
The game counts as a Bye week for the Champions so there no points loss there.
The poms get their crack at the Aussies. The NRL team can treat it as another preseason game if they want or can go balls to the wall and send the English back to where they came from.
It's a win win if you ask me and would be the perfect way to wrap up a killer round in Vegas.

Sorry boys, the Storm have only won four premierships in their history. 1999, 2012, 2017, and 2020.
Bellamy wasn't the coach in '99.
2007, 2009 stripped due to cheating the salary cap from 2006 -2010.
    All points stripped in 2010.
    The Panthers since '98 have won in 2003, 2021, 2022, 2023, and now 2024.
More premierships in the NRL era than the Storm, and Ivan Cleary has won more than Bellamy.

I understand the main rules, but don't really know what are the fundamental and basic things that a team ***must*** get right to be competitive. E.g. why is the forward pack so important? Similar thoughts with Kiwi's not getting the notoriety they deserve because they don't have an Origin equivalent. How would a North Island v South Island look? Might also incentivise the Kiwi's representing NZ rather than AUS, since NZ would have its own origin. All well and good that NRL wants to expand to US, PNG etc. but why not really try and take over the territories where it already has a footprint, like NZ? Hoz - would love to know your thoughts on this and particularly those of your old man who has had so much influence on NZRL.

During Channel 9's game between Bulldogs v. Raiders at Belmore this year, I fully understood footy IQ. Because the field is smaller, the crowd so close and Channel 9's particularly good sound quality that day - I could hear all Critta's calls to his young chargers (most of them his age !) as he directed, encouraged them, schooled them.
And physically showed them HOW to win. The full stretch while palming off two Raider players for a corner try, his impossible but successful short kick through for a try and, his flying run from right centre to take the high ball as a left centre, and a smart pass to the tryscorer.
I hope WIllie talks with Critta before 2025 and asks this incredible young 24 year old who he should help. I think Willie could teach the young forwards how to score tries - Gus certainly has Sam Hughes' undivided attention. Oh I know - our new Tongan - Sitili. Teach him two things, generational wealth and scoring tries. He'll be made professionally and understand the value of money.

L1 since day 1. Love the poddy. This might be a long one but would love your thoughts. This is coming from a die hard Penrith fan and listening to the GF review
Q1. Off the back of the chat about immortal’s and kiwis being selected, what are your boys thoughts about JFH as a future immortal? If he goes on to win a couple more tournaments with NZ at international level currently as NZ captain. Goes to NZ warriors and becomes captain/Co captain with Harris, then he takes them to the GF and win. Where does he stand in the chat for Immortality in the future?
Q2. How do we rate the rise of Dylan Edwards from a very poor season 2019 where he was dropped after a few rounds to where he is now? A bit of context about just how much Penrith fans were not big on him sticking around long term. I was born in the riff but have lived in QLD most my life. Dad and I attended a game at Redcliffe in 2021 (was a double header) when the comp got relocated to QLD. We were sitting next to a few other Penrith fans who were screaming abuse about Dyl should leave the club, “we don’t want you here, etc”. Seems like Dyl has blocked out the outside noise and built himself to where he is through hard work and effort
Q3. Ivan deserves his flowers for the system and culture he’s built at Penrith. I believe the club wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for Gus. His 5 year plan may have been 10 years but as a Penrith fan he deserves credit. Seeing him at the GF after Penriths win, he looked very happy with how much success the team is having. Dogs for the next dynasty big Willie?

Don’t agree with moving Martin to the middle with the reasoning being his “presence”. He does have it but it’s all because of him terrorising ball runners with heavy outside-in jamming defence and running harder lines than just about anyone, as well as his massive kick chase putting wingers under immediate pressure. He won’t be able to do any of those things from the middle of the field when he’s stuck in the washing machine. Back the younger guys in Smith and Henry to step up another level next year to takes Fishs place

I was thinking about Mitch Kenny not being a spot (compared to other Penrith forwards) unlike most hookers. All the other Penrith starting forwards bar Sorenson and Yeo hit hard. When you're pinned in Liam Martin's corner and can't run at Sorenson you pretty much have to run at Yeo if you want to avoid getting smashed but Yeo in my opinion is the best player at the Panthers or maybe in the NRL at turning players onto their back. So the players Penrith have chosen players that funnel opposition towards their best defender.
I was thinking about this then I realised Storm used to do the same thing with Cam Smith at the Storm. Can Smith was so influential opposition teams had to run at him to try to tire him out when he was the best at slowing down the ruck down in his team.

I can understand Penriths reasoning but Wigan have played just as many games. Origin is tough yes, but the whole team doesn't play? Challenge Cup is a mid season tournament and the whole squad plays.

Too smart of a footy brain to not be coaching at some level. 44:30 Hey Gents. If they bump Bizza up to 675, and add a year, he will probably still be the highest paid winger ever, that’ll be 6-7 years at 600-675. That’s a lot of $$$.
Make him a one clubber and get him a role at the club for the next 10 years post footy.
I hear ya, I think the whole league community would understand Bizza taking more money elsewhere but it’d still seem a bit reactive.
Penrith have some money to play with, I think we could see an upgrade/extension soon to put it all to bed.
Even though other clubs do crazy things, I can’t see 850+ for a winger, he is the highest paid and the best playing in the best team, that pretty much sets the market and doesn’t give managers much leverage or wiggle room.

    • @Shroomwalkinsnail
      @Shroomwalkinsnail 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

Just a note on the cap space Penrith have.. Leo Thompson.. 500k-ish.. looks like the closest thing you can get to Big Fish. Big Fish is irreplaceable but Leo Thompson is that prototype of size and aggression. A young leader too.
If he does sign, you would seriously have to consider that overall the forward pack has actually improved. You must consider the fresh hunger and competitiveness within the pack. They aren’t exactly lacking in leadership, Yeo, Sorenson, Marto, all leaders.
Add Papalii and Thompson.. it’s gotta atleast be close.

Bizza I believe is on $625 K the highest paid winger in the comp Alledgedly. Bizza will do what he wants to do. Penrith are not making him sign for unders and Im sure that if he gets an offer that Penrith wont match due to salary cap problems he is one that they will let go. It is a shame that the Fisher Harris descision wasnt made earlier they probably could have kept Critta or upgraded Toó. Unlike Melbourne over ? how many years? cheated the cap They were able to keep star players longer but then lost their record for those years as winner and still hold their heads up high when they robbed other teams of winning an actual premiership by the salary cap rules. With the storm going into this grandfinal 2024 as favourites I felt (IMO) that Ivan pissed all over him in the coaching arena that day
