I was in jail for a while and inside we have tablets to use for purchasing stuff to watch or call or whatever. It’s very limited content. It’s not like free access to the whole web. It’s very much selected content. But they do have a variety of NPR tiny desk concerts to watch. I am not lying when I say that I’d watch this concert everyday at least once, partially because everything else wasn’t interesting and also because I attached myself to her voice and lyrics in these three songs. She got me through those hard times. Even on days I was sooo frustrated about being incarcerated and didn’t want to even bother watching this concert and wasting my money, I did so anyways. I am forever grateful to have had Florence to keep me company as I battled the dread of losing my freedom.
One time she was so wasted that my ex had to basically escort her home. I am glad she’s sober now; she was on a downward spiral when the band is on hiatus. The high you get from live concerts is much too incomparable.
I have no doubt about Florence talent but i have to talk about her backing vocal. She is supporting florence's voice so beautifully. This is so much better than some singers that contract backing vocals only to make up their own lack of talent. 👌🏼
everyone talks about florence alone, and don't get me wrong she is a *powerhouse* but the band is absolutely incredible too. They're ability to transcend me to an ethereal plane with their music when they're this stripped-down is amazing.
I‘ve never read another sentence using the word „mitochondria“ besides „the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell“ and now i can‘t stop thinking about it
I don’t really understand why would anyone consider her and her band “average”. Honestly, her artistic work has quality to it, her lyrics are well thought out and full of symbols, metaphors, allusions and creativity...
@@erickmaynard3507 What are you even talking about? Nothing was wrong with that beginning? Patricia felt a tad dull compared to other versions of the song she has done. That's the only thing a tad off, but that was just a less interesting rendition rather than a technical issue. Worse than average? Find me someone who's vocal talent rounds out to her level of extreme breath control, note sustaining, vocal agility, vocal fluidity and ability to weave it the way she can? She can crescendo insanely quick and flip from chest voice to falsetto in the same phrase seamlessly despite the two not being exacty connected in their traits. You can find people who have better pitch, sure. But, where you're getting 4 and 5 star with her in those areas you'll be getting 2's all day long. And that is in bands most people would deem still " Above average "

I wonder what the time signature might be. it also might be syncopated, but I'm not too sure about that. this song really just plays with tempo--very interesting from a musical standpoint! the accelerando at the end was pretty cool lol
One of the big difficulties with a. Don't like that would be the increasing pace at the end. It hinges so much on the the musicians keeping consistent I. Their increase and if you note they're taking cues from Florence's clapping. Florence Welch is THE greatest example of a musician writing music that puts their soul on display for everyone to hear. Always a pleasure to hear her story through her writing. Beautiful.
Her back up singer is unreal!!! I always loved Florence but this set just made me realise how much her backup singer was influencing the various songs she released :D Great job NPR as always
I mean, I don't think the backup singer influenced the writing or sounds of the songs themselves LOL Florence usually just beats on walls and belts til she forms something and adds in her own vocal layers. She can't sing lead and do background though unless she uses a backing track, if she did it wouldn't be acoustic and she prefers having background vocals when she can. Some stages are just too small and confining to allow it though.
Hazel isn't a part of the band ordinarily, Isabel has traditionally been on keys and helped with composing, though she didn't do any work on this past album
Florence is so delicate and yet so strong. I also feel she really is extreme, especially in the way she handles her own talent She knows how to dose it and give it back to her people and she definitely gives her best in "extreme" ambiences: either extreme cozy little rooms or in the biggest festival ever. That's where her magic happens and it's not only about the atmosphere, is about the gravity she's got. I dunno if it makes sense but it did in my head after being enchanted by this.
I was never a fan, and I now emphasise the was. Sometimes the intimacy of a small acoustic set shows the real magic........ and like a magician the doubt is gone and this performance has blown me away.
I dont know how you could have “never” been a fan of this band. It is one of the greatest bands to ever play. Thats like saying you were never a fan of Led Zeppelin until you heard them play in concert.
Michael Hartmann some people have different opinions? There’s definitely times I went to concerts for one person and ended up loving the opener so there’s that
Michael Hartmann what I heard on commercial radio was so “big”, complexed and processed that the raw talent and passion gets lost amongst the mixing and production. Then you have a performance like this and while it’s only a little more minimal the talent of the artists come to the front. Back in the Led Zeplins day, album production was a lot closer to a live performance than what is done today and why I love their albums more that overly produced rock of today.
one time, when I was going through a really rough time, I listened to "shake it off" repeatedly as I was driving and I was screaming and sobbing the words 😂
I love how she can totally modulate her voice between what's required for a huge arena concert and what's required for a tiny acoustic set. It's awesome.
She just makes me cry so often and I don´t even know why. Her music is just reaching my heart in such a special way. I seriously wonder if she is an angel..
@@aaronstukey9517 I recommend looking her up singing live. She does not bring the tears into my eyes but still she has a very special aura like from another world and for me it feels like a precious heart and soul that needs to be loved and protected.

A friend of mine died yesterday, listening to Florence has helped me through this. She was one the most incredible person in my life, feels so unfair, she was 21 and and living the best moment of her life untill now: graduated, dating a guy that really loved her, working, earning money for marriage...
I'm blown away. After watching this it is obvious to me that Florence has got IT. And by IT I mean the type of tender soul and passion that you can hear coming through her voice. She's got a direct line to her soul and we're all blessed to be able to receive it.
I’m hungover and I had a strong desire to watch this concert. I think this must be the universal pinnacle of her musical career. It is so muted, and yet powerful. So blue but so red at the same time. Thank you for your vocal cords, Florence. I hope you perform for me at least once more in my life. Nat x
If you ever have the choice to see her perform live, do it. For me, it was EC 2019, when Florence told us all to jump our fears away. Just seeing 200 k people do it at the same time has been the most amazing experience at a concert ever. She has such an amazing force that pulls you out of whatever state you are in and I am craving that godly energy she shares. My only life resolution at the moment is to see her again, live.

Wow, that was one of the best-sounding presentations of June that I've ever seen. Everyone in the band was on their game and the SOUND ENGINEERING (chef's kiss! Thank you to the impressive Josh Rogosin!!): just impeccable. Every instrument felt complimented and the sound was clear and full without blasting your ears off. My ears are so so very happy! Thanks NPR!
I've watched this about 300 times. Nothing inspires me more than these small intimate sets really showcasing the amazing talent of these musicians in such a simple yet still so incredibly beautiful and powerful way
I'm not sure what's more impressive, Florence vocal abilities or the fact that to this very day she's still humble even though she's one of the best contemporary singers out there. We've all seen one-hit-wonders that don't even come near her as a singer go full diva but she doesn't, Love you for it Florence.
I saw her in Atlanta, a year n a half ago and I am still haunted by those memories. I am convinced she is the most beautiful being alive regardless of gender. There was just something undescribable that kept me clinging on to hope I never knew I had, for all of us who had come together and showed love for each other.
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star And I have to tell you something I'm still afraid of the dark But you take my hand in your hand From you the flowers grow And do you understand with every seed you sow You make this cold world beautiful? [Pre-Chorus] You told me all doors are open to the believer I believe her, I believe her, I believe her You told me all doors are open to the believer I believe her, I believe her, I believe her [Chorus] Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh [Verse 2] Well, you're a 'real man', and you do what you can You only take as much as you can grab with two hands With your big heart, you praise God above But how's that working out for you, honey? Do you feel loved? [Pre-Chorus] She told me all doors are open to the believer I believe her, I believe her, I believe her Do you feel loved? Do you feel loved? She told me all doors are open to the believer I believe her, I believe her, I believe her Do you feel loved? [Chorus] Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh [Outro] I drink too much coffee and think of you often In a city where reality has long been forgotten And are you afraid? 'Cause I'm terrified But you remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love It's such a wonderful thing to love It's such a wonderful thing to love It's such a wonderful thing to love It's such a wonderful thing
Leave it to Florence + the Machine to come through on shitty days and just brighten everything up. Getting evicted seems like nothing right now. Best band Ever!!!!!!!!!!
Just saw her live a few weeks ago for the first time; been following her since 2011 and I’m telling you, y’all need to go see her live it’s an experience in a whole another level! 🖤
Listening to these things for the first time always make me treasure life a little more. I mean, to experience a sliver of beauty in this vast, vast world...what a gift!
I wasn't expecting much of an (for me) unknown artist, but... I am STUNNED. So much tension, so much emotions! Amazing. Such a colorful voice acompained by so nice musical accompaniment.. I am moved. All my respects to the artists.
When life’s being a bitch just remember You could’ve been born a million years before or after this ageless Goddess walks among us but no You were born at literally the perfect time to be here and have the honor to listen to her beautiful timeless work. And that my friend is the true blessing that is Florence + the Machine! ❤️❤️❤️
Love her. Never forget when I first heard her first album and was just blown away.... it’s been a long time since we have seen a quality, poetic and raw artist like her... And I love how shy she is and then as soon as she starts singing, ROAR! Being a shy person myself this just affirms how shy people aren’t pathetic little things like society would like us to believe... We may be quiet but that does not mean we can’t roar when something is passionate to us.
My first introduction to this amazing band!.... Thank you thank you thank-you...they are therapy of Tiny desk concerts.. "it's such a wonderful thing to love "
I saw them in concert in 2018, and it was an ethereal experience. All the people around me were in tears, and so was I because of how beautiful it is. June will always be my favorite song now because of the way it sounded live
the intro by NPR is comprehensive, sets up the video and credits each member of her band. really well done, and then a strong 3 song set, and florence just right.
tbh I didn't much attention to it until I listened it live in her Athens Acropolis Concert in 2019...I can say up to this day it was the most magical musical moment of the whole concert and of all my life maybe! To see that she still played it among her hits again some days in her recent Athens concert was the most delightful surprise!
this performance floored me. The lead and harmony vocals were outstanding. The band really shined in the stripped down Tiny Desk Concert format. You can hear the musicality of each musician and as a unit they played beautifully. Way above average stuff!
She's amazing, the best singer of the last decade! I'm from Brazil and I love her voice, the style she follows in terms of music and of course life, a sweet melodic witch who heals with her voice and the melodies she plays
I'm so mesmerized by her voice, her presence, and just about everything about her music. Only discovered her a few years ago but I'm hooked. Simply fantastic! 🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵
I think in the last 5 years I never ever heard something as touching as this interpretations at the tiny desk studios. I can always feel the love that the whole group is carrying within themselves - and they are SO talented to radiate their love into the world. Whenever I struggle to find my love within my self - this helps to get in touch with it again. It is a wonderful thing to love...

Hazel isn't a part of the band ordinarily, Isabel has traditionally been on keys and helped with composing, though she didn't do any work on this past album
Influenced? LOL no. Usually she has a gospel singer as background because they can keep up with her powerful voice and notes
@Galactic Banana thank you
THE QUEEN HAS ARRIVED!
So good. With her saw voice or bucksaw voice.
QUEEN OF PEACE
She is king! 😉

I can't remember how many times I've rewatched this mini concert. Still an experience everytime.
Florence on Tiny Desk,
My heart is so full.
Florence is so delicate and yet so strong. I also feel she really is extreme, especially in the way she handles her own talent
She knows how to dose it and give it back to her people and she definitely gives her best in "extreme" ambiences: either extreme cozy little rooms or in the biggest festival ever.
Derek Smyth how pleasant
I dont know how you could have “never” been a fan of this band. It is one of the greatest bands to ever play. Thats like saying you were never a fan of Led Zeppelin until you heard them play in concert.
Michael Hartmann some people have different opinions? There’s definitely times I went to concerts for one person and ended up loving the opener so there’s that
Yeah, some people just need to feel that live nerve to really get swept off of their feet. For some kinds of music, I'm one of them.
One of the rarest and most unique voices out there.
The dogs days are over got me through the hardest time of my life, I didn’t give up because of that song❤️
one time, when I was going through a really rough time, I listened to "shake it off" repeatedly as I was driving and I was screaming and sobbing the words 😂
Micky Hoffman yes bb! For real those songs give some kind of otherworldly power to the listener.
Such a special song ♥️ Memories for me too
I’m glad you didn’t.
I hope you're doing well ❤️❤️
Didn’t realise how good my reflexes were until I got the notification
Keemstar honestly it’s a talent I’m proud of
L😂L
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Word
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Such a huge sound from so few people...
I love how she can totally modulate her voice between what's required for a huge arena concert and what's required for a tiny acoustic set. It's awesome.
Ms Welch holds a special place in my heart 💙. She has gotten me though a lot of many long nights and days for sure so thank you 🙏🏽
It blows my mind how nervous and shy she actually is and then when she sings it’s like an explosion of heaven in your ears.
How she make simple clapping sound so damn good???
Camboy GW she even make breathing sounds sounds like heaven
magic hands??

How is it even possible to dislike Florence and her amazing band?!
I dislike her and its' group
R u referring to "the machine?"
Because her music is painfully average
@@AlistairIsCool yeah it's not like the most progressive and experimental one, but they do make some very good songs.
i really don't know why people like this music.
i just couldn't believe in my eyes as the notification popped up..!
Youna Lee same
huh
Youna Lee me too! I just talked her up last week about appearing on npr 😊
She could sing the school lunch menu, and I would think it was the most amazing thing ever.
😂🤣 ikr!
She just makes me cry so often and I don´t even know why. Her music is just reaching my heart in such a special way. I seriously wonder if she is an angel..
Same!
Than you need to know AURORA
@@Gabriela282810
I know her and I love her 😌
I will look up Aurora now. Thank you for this
@@aaronstukey9517 I recommend looking her up singing live. She does not bring the tears into my eyes but still she has a very special aura like from another world and for me it feels like a precious heart and soul that needs to be loved and protected.
Patricia made me cry like a baby for some reason. This was an amazing performance. Have loved Florence + the Machine for years, they always deliver. Thanks for bringing this amazing Tiny Desk Concert NPR.
There's always a band, such as this, that you'd expect has already had a Tiny Desk Concert. It always feel like striking a home run when said bands' Tiny Desk videos are released. This is great, and greatly appreciated!
I was thinking the same
@@maiamoreno1662 Yes! It just goes to show how many astounding bands/artists there are, including a range from not well known, to well known artists. You never know what will be uploaded in the Tiny Desk World ❤
A friend of mine died yesterday, listening to Florence has helped me through this.
You can tell the music is radiating in her brain as she's singing. She's hearing something we can't. I love her
She has a beautiful timbre to her voice.
She’s perfect. Saw her live and actually cried. Her energy and talent are unimaginable.
I fall in love with every person that performs in tiny desk.
I’m hungover and I had a strong desire to watch this concert. I think this must be the universal pinnacle of her musical career. It is so muted, and yet powerful. So blue but so red at the same time.
Thank you for your vocal cords, Florence. I hope you perform for me at least once more in my life. Nat x
She is such a sweetheart, she is amazing ❤
The harp 😍
If you ever have the choice to see her perform live, do it. For me, it was EC 2019, when Florence told us all to jump our fears away. Just seeing 200 k people do it at the same time has been the most amazing experience at a concert ever. She has such an amazing force that pulls you out of whatever state you are in and I am craving that godly energy she shares. My only life resolution at the moment is to see her again, live.
This came out of nowhere!

Thanks NPR!
I'll never understand how someone could dislike such a beautiful performance
She is pure magic.
the woman on background vocals and keyboard is givinggggg
I've watched this about 300 times. Nothing inspires me more than these small intimate sets really showcasing the amazing talent of these musicians in such a simple yet still so incredibly beautiful and powerful way
I'm not sure what's more impressive, Florence vocal abilities or the fact that to this very day she's still humble even though she's one of the best contemporary singers out there.
We've all seen one-hit-wonders that don't even come near her as a singer go full diva but she doesn't, Love you for it Florence.
Florence Welch is one of my favorite lyricist EVER. Her lyrics either make me feel insane but in the best way possible.
I saw her in Atlanta, a year n a half ago and I am still haunted by those memories. I am convinced she is the most beautiful being alive regardless of gender. There was just something undescribable that kept me clinging on to hope I never knew I had, for all of us who had come together and showed love for each other.
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star
And I have to tell you something
I'm still afraid of the dark
But you take my hand in your hand
From you the flowers grow
And do you understand with every seed you sow
You make this cold world beautiful?
[Pre-Chorus]
You told me all doors are open to the believer
I believe her, I believe her, I believe her
You told me all doors are open to the believer
I believe her, I believe her, I believe her
[Chorus]
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh
[Verse 2]
Well, you're a 'real man', and you do what you can
You only take as much as you can grab with two hands
With your big heart, you praise God above
But how's that working out for you, honey?
Do you feel loved?
[Pre-Chorus]
She told me all doors are open to the believer
I believe her, I believe her, I believe her
Do you feel loved? Do you feel loved?
She told me all doors are open to the believer
I believe her, I believe her, I believe her
Do you feel loved?
[Chorus]
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh
Oh Patricia, you've always been my North Star, oh
[Outro]
I drink too much coffee and think of you often
In a city where reality has long been forgotten
And are you afraid? 'Cause I'm terrified
But you remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love
It's such a wonderful thing to love
It's such a wonderful thing to love
It's such a wonderful thing to love
It's such a wonderful thing
So beautiful
Leave it to Florence + the Machine to come through on shitty days and just brighten everything up. Getting evicted seems like nothing right now. Best band Ever!!!!!!!!!!
her voice is so haunting and hypnotizing when she sings so i was not expecting her to sound like that when she talks lol
The end of Patrica blew me away
Just saw her live a few weeks ago for the first time; been following her since 2011 and I’m telling you, y’all need to go see her live it’s an experience in a whole another level! 🖤
I did too! She is so humble and full of love that she made a giant stadium feel cozy and personal, no matter how far away you're sitting.
Listening to these things for the first time always make me treasure life a little more. I mean, to experience a sliver of beauty in this vast, vast world...what a gift!
She is absolutely AMAZING live! Like a hyperactive wood nymph that never stops dancing and hits every single insane note!
I wasn't expecting much of an (for me) unknown artist, but... I am STUNNED.
So much tension, so much emotions!
Amazing. Such a colorful voice acompained by so nice musical accompaniment.. I am moved.
All my respects to the artists.
Hands down one of the best female vocals. And she does it so darn effortlessly!
When life’s being a bitch just remember
You could’ve been born a million years before or after this ageless Goddess walks among us but no
You were born at literally the perfect time to be here and have the honor to listen to her beautiful timeless work.
And that my friend is the true blessing that is Florence + the Machine!
❤️❤️❤️
wow, that actually really does make me feel better, thank you xx
The odds are literally astronomical
Certainly not a million years before... our species have only been around for about 200k years.
I do often what music sounded like a million years ago🤔
Florence and Hazel make an amazing duo.
8:28 wow she really put the harpist on the spot there, i would’ve fainted from the pressure of having to play faster and faster
I felt my heart racing watching that guy go
He did good, great, fantastic.
They've played together from the beginning...years ago! So I'm positive she's not putting him on the spot.
I love it so much hahah but the harp in patricia has nothing on cosmic love
He's great! 😁
the intro by NPR is comprehensive, sets up the video and credits each member of her band. really well done, and then a strong 3 song set, and florence just right.
June is the most underrated song of the album. Its phenomenal
tbh I didn't much attention to it until I listened it live in her Athens Acropolis Concert in 2019...I can say up to this day it was the most magical musical moment of the whole concert and of all my life maybe!
I'm sure I've watched this video 50,000 times in the past almost 2 years. And I will continue to watch it because it's just so beautiful.
Wow the back vocal, superbly blended with the lead vocal! 😘😘
her little laugh at 8:50 after performing one of the most beautiful and majestic versions of Patricia i've ever heard is SO CUTE kill me
She's amazing, the best singer of the last decade! I'm from Brazil and I love her voice, the style she follows in terms of music and of course life, a sweet melodic witch who heals with her voice and the melodies she plays
Ac
Ela é mt querida ❤️
Sitting here painting with 🐈. Living in the moment of a lite Fall shower passing by, and Florence on Npr.
I'm so mesmerized by her voice, her presence, and just about everything about her music. Only discovered her a few years ago but I'm hooked. Simply fantastic! 🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵
This was exactly the way my Monday needed to start.
One of the best ever on Tiny Desk. That mix is just exquisite! Especially that harp!
I’m in tears. She is not of this earth.
