Yeah I remember renting Billy Hatcher back when it came out. Played it for 6 hours, but then I just gave up on it. I never finished it and had no desire to. Lugging a giant egg around and having to platform with it just wasn't fun.

I liked Billy Hatcher. all ur complaints are justified tho. it had a lot of issues. i feel like Sega could have benefited from a sequel though. mostly in the regard of expanding their IP list.
Your complaints are all very valid, John, but I'm still gonna stick by Hatcher because of just how upbeat this game is. When you bring back the morning in a world, it's literally one of the best feelings I had as a child. Totally nostalgia talking, but it's still a shame you couldn't share the same experience.
I did a let's play of this game awhile ago. LOSING YOUR EGG ON A LEDGE IS THE MOST PAINFUL THING EVER! The control is painful at some points! The final level, the Giant Palace, is terrible for the egg ledge problem!

I had this game as a kid and I really enjoyed it . But going back to it being older was a really big mistake. I should have left my memories in tact , the game was not as good as I remember but I agree. I can recommend this for kids as Kids can enjoy simplicity.But me and my friends enjoyed the local multiplayer of it .

One damned charming game from start to finish. It's not perfect, it's not flashy, but it is a real adventure of discovery, and there are plenty of extras to keep everyone happy.
What? By the time SADX and SA2B came out, critics were already giving Sonic shit. SA2B got much less favorable reviews than the Dreamcast version, and from Sonic Heroes to 06 the franchise got trashed by critics, specially Shadow and 06.
I will say I have a lot of memories with this game and while it hast aged most gracefully it's still a pretty decent game in it's own right. I never really had as much problems with the controls likely because I managed to get used it after some time. I think it could do well with an HD re release. It's also funny how Billy doesn't really speak actual english in game but in the Worlds Unite comics he somehow learned to speak complete sentences

The camera in this game is nauseating me just from watching this video. It has that early "sega" style where it moves around too much and induces motion sickness. Ugg. Give me Mario 3D World's isometric camera any day.
Even though I really liked billy hatcher and my friend [who is also a billy hatcher nerd] and I love to duke it out in multiplayer mode I understand and feel for your complaints with the game. The control is pretty damn loose and it takes a surprising amount of time to get used to, especially if you haven't played it in a few years. It's one of those games like Sonic Riders where if you can handle the controls you'll have fun but even then they can be infuriating. I also agree that the story was pretty bland too. But I do like the art direction and the style. I think Billy himself and the chicken suit is pretty damn cool.
Sorry if I sound like a smart ass, but... Whether Billy jumps whilst rolling with an egg is determined by how he started rolling. If you do a dash then jump, you can instantly get back up by pressing A. If you jump then press R you do a roll. When that happens, pressing A will cause Billy to jump and pressing A will get him back on his feet

Your reward for doing this is getting the title of "EGG MASTER" on your save file and plenty of time to ponder where you went wrong with life.

Billy Hatcher along with Sly 1, Soulcalibur, Gun for the gamecube, and Resident Evil 4 for the gamecube were some of my first games ever, the nostalgia these all hold are huge. I'd play Billy, Sly 3 co-op, and Soulcalibur with my aunt every time I visited. Along with a variety of Sonic games, some kind of Tom and Jerry fighting game, A Rugrats game, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and DDR for the Wii. Good times fr.... god looking at the release dates make me feel old, though. I was only born in 2001 but still. Yeesh. I can't believe Sonic Heros is almost as old as I am.
I wonder of johnny is ever going to review the Shantae series. I know he played them, and this series really needs more love. Plus, they are metroidvania games, and I know johnny really like this genre.

I was but a kid when I had this on the Gamecube and owned both this AND Super Mario Sunshine. Regardless I loved both of these games to death because they were filled with so much character and nonsensical bullshit that only an adult would rule out. Granted the difference is I returned to Super Mario Sunshine and I was finally able to beat it (I could not when I was younger). I returned to Billy Hatcher and I.... still could not beat it (maybe I can now, this was a few years ago compared to over 15 when I first played it). In my heart I really do hope Sega return back to this with either a sequel or reboot because this game truly has a lot of potential as a great mascot series if they address the issues and add more depth to the level designs and engagement.

I wonder of johnny is ever going to review the Shantae series. I know he played them, and this series really needs more love. Plus, they are metroidvania games, and I know johnny really like this genre.

I was but a kid when I had this on the Gamecube and owned both this AND Super Mario Sunshine. Regardless I loved both of these games to death because they were filled with so much character and nonsensical bullshit that only an adult would rule out. Granted the difference is I returned to Super Mario Sunshine and I was finally able to beat it (I could not when I was younger). I returned to Billy Hatcher and I.... still could not beat it (maybe I can now, this was a few years ago compared to over 15 when I first played it).
In my heart I really do hope Sega return back to this with either a sequel or reboot because this game truly has a lot of potential as a great mascot series if they address the issues and add more depth to the level designs and engagement.
