For the Sonic Boom cartoon, it's hilarious. Mike Pollock steals the show every time. The Busted episode as well as the Can an Evil Genius Crash for a Few Days episode are my personal favorites.
As for the games... Sonic Boom on 3DS is passable but repetitive. Sonic Boom on Wii U... hell no. I ain't playing that. That and I hear there's some major controversy to boot.
Hell yeah, I definitely think Eggman is the star of the show here. I will admit, I do like Amy and Knuckles' antics too.
Although I'm not a Sonic fan, (my brother is though) I'll watch the Sonic Boom series and see what the show is like on CN. (Or on YT.) I've heard that people (like you) find it hilarious while some find it "cheesy" to them. I had a bad feeling that this game that's based on the television series wouldn't turn out as good...
I knew I wasn't the only who prefered the cartoon rather than games.
The cartoon looked more appealing than the game. When I first saw the preview of the show, I was impressed and I liked it. Haven't seen the show yet but I will soon.

For the record, the Sonic Boom cartoon got a lot better as time went on. Mostly because they just stopped giving a crap and dove headfirst into animaniacs level 4th wall humor but still. (Seriously there is literally a episode where Sonic is kidnapped by a fanboy and forced to act out terrible fanfiction)
shame that they eventually just stoped after the end of season 2 where shadow says hes going to destroy the universe
I heard good things about the show and they say it's the best thing about it. But I haven't it nor I plan too. I'm not really an fan of how the humors were in the show. See the appeal. It's not just what I like to see in an Sonic show.
Shadow and Metal Sonic are honestly just in this game for fanservice. Shadow's a dick for literally no reason, and he and Metal combined have a grand total of about 3 minutes of screen time added to being dropped in the plot as soon as they're brought up never to be mentioned again
I honestly think they got shoehorned in last minute to build empty hype and to increase sales by exploiting their popularity. That's why they were so unchanged. Which is disgusting.

Dunno if this is still relevant, but you can buy the disc version of the game, disconnect your wii u from the internet, and the game won't update. It'll play as it did on launch day 11th November (now a national holiday)
According to several sources mostly coming from the Sonic Stadium, Rise of Lyric had several development problems before it even begun. Several Big Red Button employees Twitter & LinkedIn feeds stated that they had left the company during development of the game back in June. The game was rushed to meet a Christmas dead line and that Sega wanted to get out of their three Nintendo exclusive Sonic titles contract early possibly to focus on developing games for other systems where they can gain more sales.
Oh and those former Naughty Dog staff members? Yeah they were only two of them involved in this project and one of them was a concept artist.

Sounds about right. This game had terrible written all over it once I saw the framerate shit itself within the first 5 minutes of the game. Also dear god did it look like an early ps2 once you play co-op

For anyone who happens to see this, I reccomend checking out the What Happened video by Matt McMuscles, these guys got screwed so hard on Sonic Boom it's not even funny. Sega basically destroyed the game with repeatedly flip flopping on story and gameplay they wanted, before outright killing the game by forcing it to be ported to the Wii U, a system that the game engine didn't actually run on. Yeah it was a mess

If you're one of those people that actually enjoy this game, I only have one question to ask you: *Don't you think that you deserve better than this?* To see Sonic finally regain some of his momentum, only to revert back to a game like Sonic Boom, is painful. Ryan S. Yeah, technically, but I'm more-so talking about the Sonic franchise in general. Just anything with Sonic slapped onto it. It kinda sucks that the infamy of Sonic Boom is probably going to overshadow Sonic's recent successes again, much like what Sonic '06 did with games like Sonic Rush and anything following it.

Sonic Boom (the show) is a comedy show that I love a lot. The interactions with the characters are fantastic, and the episode "Translate This" is hilarious.
Rise of Lyric, though... wow. I have never seen such a sad game before. So much promise, but the hopes are shattered. Ha, Shattered Crystal. I fear for the next Sonic game, and if the next series of games start to teeter on the terrible side, I'll leave Sonic behind. I don't want another Dark Age, and I want some developer out there to give Sonic an amazing experience. As it stands, I'm scared for what Sonic has in store for us.
I think that if this bullshit continues, SEGA themselves will have no choice but sell Sonic to another company that can do something with him. *coughcoughNintendocough*

I guess this means we've hit another "Dark Age" for Sonic. Such a shame, Colors, Generations, and to a lesser extent Lost World were pretty awesome. Things really were looking up there for a while. Oh well, so much for that.
Hopefully, SEGA will learn from their experience and not get Big Red Button doing anything else Sonic related. And now that the blasted three game deal with Nintendo is done; we might finally see what SEGA will do completely alone. So don't get your hopes up. :-P
I wouldn't say that just yet, Now if the next Sonic Team game is just as bad as Boom then yes we'll be in another Dark Age. But in the meantime, Sonic Boom is a disregardable spin off and we should treat it as such Except the tv show, that has potential.

Am I the only one who really enjoyed the Werehog stages in Unleashed? Its God of War with Sonic, what's not to like?

I hope Sonic Team uses the Sonic Section Adventure Gameplay for their next game. There should certainly be some changes, like having Tails Knuckles and whoever playable and a functional camera, but the Adventure series had some of the best control and level design of 3D Sonic.

Knowing some of the background information on the development of sonic boom years later makes how this game turned out make sense.
So, how bad was the development? Was it intentionally developed to be garbage? Was it industrial sabotage? Did they just not care about Sonic anymore?

People I'm scared because I'm seeing a pattern with the Sonic games.
Sonic Adventure = Sonic Unleashed -> Half the game was amazing while the other was meh.
Sonic Adventure 2 = Sonic Colors & Generations -> Considered one of the best Sonic games in that era.
Sonic Heroes = Sonic Lost World Wii U -> Not a bad game, but could have been better.
Shadow = Sonic Boom -> A spin off game that's average at best

Can I just say that I don't care for Roger Craig Smith as Sonic? I prefer Jason Griffith. Say what you will about 4Kids. the voice cast actually has talent, as long as it's not their One Piece dub, or the later seasons of their dub of Pokemon.
Technically the biggest problem with 4kids dubs were the script (though I still prefer this games Tails and Amy)
Yeah. That's the worst thing about them. Not being accurate to the Japanese version, too much extra dialogue, it was hell.
Don't forget the beautiful soundtracks, replaced with stock music (also on do Pokemon dub are you talking about after Battle Frontier?)

With rise of lyric, the reason why it wasn't good was a combination of 2 factors
1: Rushed Development to release close enough to the tv show
2: Because sega did a exclusivity deal for 3 sonic games for the wii u, rise of lyric couldn't be the vision they wanted because the wii u hardware was lacking, and by the time they realized that, the show was near release, and therefore the deadline.
So if I'm not mistaken, Big Red Button should've been aware of the exclusivity right when they started.
Carlo Nassar: The development of the game would have started before they made the deal. Also the initial trailer was the build being made for PS4 and Xbox One, because they barely started the Wii U build at the time. E3 demos are typically running on high end PC Hardware. That is why it looks somewhat competent.

Also the initial engine was CryEngine 3, which wasn’t compatible with the Wii U (at least at the time), so they hastily took everything from CryEngine to another engine, bringing a bunch of bugs, glitches, and added a bunch of workload they couldn’t handle. So it’s not just SEGA.

Carlo Nassar: SEGA should be the one to blame. I’m just pointing out that big red button didn’t put a ton of effort when converting it to a Wii U game. Though they didn’t have enough time, so they couldn’t try and they probably knew it would become another 06 anyways due to the similarities in terms of development issues. SEGA is still to blame, by FAR!!!
Edit: there is also a point to make about the fact that sometimes both people have something to do with it, but one is clearly worse than the other. In this case, SEGA is the bad guy and big red button is the one guilt tripped into the mess, like a big boss and snake situation from Metal Gear MSX. Although this scenario is if you lost against the final boss and broke your MSX and copy of metal gear out of rage.

No. The game play for both is horrible, but boom doesn't have a story that should burn in hell.

As someone who has only played a few sonic games (all "around" the adventure era) and who's favorite is Sonic Adventure 2 I saw an alternate timeline game as a great possibility for rebooting the franchise, returning to Adventure 2-esque storytelling and clearing away alot of the huge continuity errors, big character inconsistencies, and general lazy storytelling of the last decade or so. Examples include whatever the fuck they tried to do with shadow, and I especially hoped they could re-tell a story him better. Another is of course knuckles whose entire motivation in the main games is long forgotten and now he's just an idiot and a character to make the cliche "oh hey tough guy getting embarrassed somehow" joke despite the fact he really hasn't been that tough in years. Unfortunately sonic boom seems to change the characters yet not establish the norm of the new universe or introduce characters naturally. Maybe one day I'll buy another sonic game, but not this one.
Buy Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic 4 episode 1, Generations, Colours, Rush, Rush Adventure, Advance 1, 2 and 3 and Unleashed.

I'm done being a Sonic apologist at this point. It seems like every time Sonic gets back to some level of normalcy, games like Sonic '06, Secret Rings, Genesis, Shadow and now Boom happens. Why is it so hard to keep Sonic continuously good? Why don't they just tweak the Generations engine? Why don't they just take their time developing the games instead of releasing them on the yearly? WHY CAN'T SONIC STAY CONSISTENT IN QUALITY?! I can forgive Sonic Team to a fault, but this is why handing off well-established properties to a third party developer spells disaster!!!! Look at what happened to Crash; learn from example Sonic Team, stop winging it!!

Joshua White I don't agree with Johnny's review at all. He overhates the game just because he has a personal grudge against it. He makes it out to be far worse than it actually is. In fact he underrates a lot of Modern 3D Sonic games and overrates others. His stance on Sonic is weird.

Am I the only person who absolutely adores the main theme for Rise of Lyric. That song is reason enough to have the Sonic Boom theme as your 3DS background.
The best way I can explain this game is Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is to the Sonic franchise as Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is to the Banjo trilogy

It's not even a new "design". She's just wearing a different outfit. Nothing about her is actually different unlike Knuckles' bulkiness and a few small spikes added to Sonic's quills.

Dear Sonic Team, here's what the fans want:
A game with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles playable. Sonic plays EXACTLY as modern sonic did in Generations. Tails plays EXACTLY as he did in Adventure 1 (except minus the racing component, just get to the end), and Knuckles plays as a more flushed out werehog with better combat and a better camera. Do this and you will have a pleased fanbase.

Has anyone noticed in the TV series, Amy's voice seems to change with every episode? In episode 2 "Can an Evil Genius crash on your couch for a few weeks" , Amy was talking like Minnie Mouse again, but in Episode 7 "Double Doomsday" , Amy only said one line "Sonic let's not make a scene" but It sounded like Lisa Ortiz was voicing her again.

Hey John, you didn't bring up how you need BOTH games to increase your ring count in Rise of Lyric. :)
Honestly? You take so little damage and there is so little consequence for dying that increasing your ring count really doesn't matter, which is an issue in itself but yeah.
Lewis Medeiros Not to mention death is just a minor iinconveniencein the game. The only time it becomes problematic is in boss fights, and even then only with the Metal Sonic fight I'd say since the game checkpoints you often in bosses.
***** Rings are your health in Sonic Boom. You have 100 to start out with, and to upgrade it you need to connect with the 3DS version. Overall though if you die you lose a bit of junk but usually just instantly respawn to the exact spot you were in. Only time that doesn't apply is in boss fights in which you start at the last checkpoint. That only becomes a problem I say in the Metal Sonic boss fight as all the bosses in this game are pathetically easy.
The "ring cap" functions kind of like the coins in Mario Kart. You can only "hold" 100 for your life bar (and you can pick up dropped rings a la classic Sonic, making for a weird sort of hybrid between Werehog/Mech and regular ring system) but every ring you pick up as you go also counts toward unlockables such as concept art and whatnot. It's not very compelling but I care about it a bit more than robot parts and Princess Crowns, so that's something.
I don't really have a complaint with this system by itself, it'd be better if the combat were more polished and the health bar presented a real element of challenge. As it is, the health-limit-boosting upgrade just feels like a cheesy-cheap way to sucker kids into getting both games.

I'm sorry, but I'm done here Johnny. I can understand the frustration in Super Mario Sunshine and the fact that SA2 hasn't aged well to you. This game is a SPINOFF. It doesn't need everything that made the series great. Did Luigi's Mansion have everything that made Mario great? No!
to be completely fair though, Luigi's Mansion didn't have Mario in the title. and even if it isn't like Sonic he still said that the platforming and combat were average at best and the glitches didn't help in making it enjoyable either.

Shadow isn't a flat out terrible game, it's just that the mere concept of it was completely unnecessary. 06 is DEFINITELY worse than Shadow, with Rise of Lyric coming in a close second. Those two games weren't even finished, while Shadow was a stable game to the end. It's not even a matter of opinion. Literally everyone can agree 06 and RoL are the worst games in the franchise.

My god, Rise of Lyric's Metacritic Score just lowered to 33/100. 06's is still 46/100....wow. Shattered Crystal is 45/100....
Sukuun while 06 game had a ton of flaws there was potential in there they just rushed the damn thing and the story was just sad and i mean that in a bad way. now if(and this is just me dreaming)they spent more time working the game then i would say that 06 was great but that day will never come.
