Great explanation and detailed and obviously it’s not for my car but you did mention that all you would have to do is punch in your vehicle information and the fuel pump relay so it really doesn’t matter what car you just have to punch in your information
That is a good description and explanation. However a worn out relay can show good using your test, and be erratic during operation. Those relays have contacts exactly like the old points in a 1970 Briggs engine. Those contacts can become worn and burned, giving you a good indication with your meter, but can fail after having several amps going through them.
Car had been starting normal without issue. Yesterday, same thing then I get on the road and it sputtered once for a split second before going back to normal. Got a few miles down the road and it started to do the same thing but more intense, like hesitation before completely dying. 94 Corolla 1.6L
Thank you much for showing us how to us ho to read information on the relay, how to use a multeter to test this relay and any other relay, as well as how to detect a bad relay. I really enjoyed your video. If you would do a series on how to test other electrical car parts using a multimeter I think it would be very helpful for all of us novices in TH-cam Land. I love your teaching style. Will you do a video blike this on how to test a Mass Air Flow Sensor ?
@@CarsNToys I tested them successfully on my Datsun Redigo here in India and it helped me diagnose the problem. The power was going go the fuel pump motor but it was not working. Took it off connected it to my 12v adaptor and tried to manually rotate its fan and it started working. Here video of it. th-cam.com/video/EQRm0JxJJKc/w-d-xo.html Thanks once again.
Temp fix.. If your cars interior is hot from the summer heat it can definitely effect the relay, especially if your car is old. If your car doesn't start, air your car out first and try it. It just worked for me. You can avoid car heat, by parking under a shady tree and crack the windows.
Better yet to measure the actual resistance of the relay, most multimeters beep for continuity testing at a couple of Ohms, but even a couple of Ohms relay contact resistance will drop enough voltage to make whatever is behind that act up.
Thank you so much. Very helpful video. It makes it so simple to locate, understand and test a fuel relay. Going to try it on my Fiat Panda (1988) before I try to take out the pump which is so difficult to access and remove. I add you to my subscriptions.
It's stupid not to put it in the title or description, but when he's typing into google he searches for "2000 NIssan Maxima", so I'll guess that's what he's working on.
Connecting current through 1 and 2 to get connectivity between 3 an 5, does that mean the current runs through 3 and 5 when installed? Is the relay in effect facilitating two seperate circuits that don't connect?
Mine was a bad relay not sending the right amount of current to thepump causing it to run weak and it couldn’t build up the right pressure. New relay now pump gets its full power
Nice vid. Had this fail on a 1998 Integra, what a pain in the @$$ it was to determine as it was just stalling driving down the highway, but just put the clutch in, crank it and it would start back up no problem. Eventually, after many a stall and a few Google searches, I came a cross a forum that suggested the fuel pump relay. Replaced it and no more stalling.
This guys great....Very informative.....I hope I can use this test on my fuel problem...I have a 2006 ford super duty van that seems to be running like somebody poured maple syrup into my tank!
I kept having random stalling when driving once it happened on the highway and that was little scary. I figured out it was my fuel pump relay seeing that my issue was very random car would always start okay but the engine would stall out why’ll driving and it alway took a bit too get it going again. I figured out my relay was bad it would cut the power to the fuel pump shutting it off and stalling the engine of fuel. Replaced it with a new relay so far so good. It’s odd that that relay and non of the rest are bad but I guess the fuel pump relay gets used a lot like every time you drive the car.
Any answers on a 2003 Dodge Ram hesitates when cold on reverse or turning Corners runs great when it's warmed up I don't know if it's the fuel pump or sending you I have no idea I just would like some answers I can't find the right video

I what if. I don’t have numbers or diagrams on the relay? Like h300 relay, I see coil coil or no on some of the relays.. this is for a 89 ford probe gt
Quick question if anyone can answer. I’m getting resistance and ohms when there is no power to the relay and when I put power to it I’m not getting any ohms does this determine if the relay is bad?
Sir can u plzz share me ur idea because mi car doesn't work 4 beings 4 days everything is okey bt only that diesels motor does nt work bt when we check motor direct its working so can u plzz tell me y?

I have a ticking noise coming from my fuel relay , fuel pump is going crazy on and off , I replaced the relay nothing , I put my finger on the fuel relay and u can feel the ticks anyone know what the hell it is
Can I open this up and clean the contacts or bend the spring and get it working again? I've done this with a signal light blinker 10 years ago and it still works.
I see you answered someone's question 2 weeks ago and hope you get this. I just had my pump replaced and when I drove it home, it stalled on the ex-way again. So from my reading, it could be faulty relay: One of the first symptoms of an issue with the fuel pump relay is an engine that suddenly stalls. If the fuel pump relay has an issue while the vehicle is operating it will cut off power to the fuel pump, which will cause the engine to stall. A faulty relay may allow the vehicle to be restarted a short while later, while a completely failed relay will not. And that's exactly what its doing......The million dollar question is there a way to test for this? The towing is killing me. Thanks so much........Josh
Yep that's what I did. 16.00 seemed to be the problem. I finally read an article call "Symptoms of a bad or failing fuel pump relay". Wish I had read it before the fuel pump. But its all good. Thanks for you quick reply. I was getting burnt out on being towed. Thanks
Well its 7-31-17 and I am back to square one. I dove it home yesterday; no problems. Today I drove about 40 miles fast and slow. I pulled into a parking spot and it stalled. So keep driving and I turned and it stalled at a stop. And then again in a parking spot. Then it ran fine and I went to wash it at the end of the day and it did the exact same thing is did in the beginning. Stalled at the car wash : died. And I couldn't get it started. Tried 4 times. Nothing. Then I figured I would wash it. Then I tried again. Nothing. Then I prayed and it started and got it home, but it seemed like it struggled on the way. I am wondering what else could it be? Any ideas? Running out of money. Andy thoughts would be great. Thanks Josh
Hell of alot easier to just yank a relay sharing the same part# that's known to be good One that is running something else (a/c heater blower, or radiator cooling fans, pwr windows etc. whatever. There's always 3 of em. the same on pretty much all vehicles.. But relay contact points arc out an burn them intermittent. On those I cut the case off W my dremel (If it can't be opened) and emery or file the contact points of all arcing marks. Violla. No equipment, no money spent.
how much resistance should you see passing through to consider good once the meter is hooked up? my relay clicks, but once I meter it also I get anywhere from 0.0ohms to .5ohms
