How to Connect a Xbox One X to a DVI Monitor

- Hi, this video shows you how to connect up a Xbox One X onto a DVI monitor. When using DVI you will get picture but no sound so in the video I show you various different ways to get the sound out of the Xbox One X. If you have an option to use HDMI then do this as it will give you picture and sound (if your monitor has speakers) but a lot of monitors only have VGA or DVI. DVI will give you a better picture than VGA as DVI is digital. I also show the Xbox One X 'supersampling' when using the DVI on a 1080p monitor.

Another option you could use, is to connect a second controller in copilot mode to the PC speakers

Robert Spear Modify the fridge to use HDMI. Use the connector with the xb1x and put it in.

Hi Vince, if I use the dual HDMI DVI cable you showed in the video, plugged to my PS4 pro and the monitor, will I achieve a higher Hz than using a normal HDMI cable?

Does the kind of monitor matter? Mine is a Dell P1913, only goes up to 720p. Was wondering if it could still connect to this with an hdmi to dvi adaptor.
since your monitor was 1080p the xbox allowed 1080p. Is that the same thing for hz and resposne time? I have a 16zhz and 1ms, so does that work for this method

I just bought an Amazon HDMI to dvi adapter and it doesn’t have a signal for 1080, 720p either on my monitor or tv. Now it only displays 640x480 probably needs a new ic chip somewhere. Any help?

Nice I did it with an VGA only Monitor connecting to an xbox. I used an VGA to HDMI Adapter to connect my xbox with the Monitor. I also used my Headset to get sound

I tried to connect a PS4 and a Raspberry Pi to a 1440x900 DVI monitor and neither worked. I don't know if it was the adapter or the system didn't like the monitor or the monitor didn't like the system
i used to connect a hdmi to vga 4 my monitor. The adapter gave trouble after couple years and influenced me buying an hdmi tv. I think cause i had to unplug each time i switched between pc and game.

Hey Vince, do the nintendo switch wired controllers work in portable mode if you use a USB Type C to A cable? I wanted to check with you to see if it works before I go out and buy one
Hi, yes the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and GameCube controller using the GameCube-Wii U adapter all work in portable mode using a USB-C OTG (On the Go) cable for a wired connection. You do have to allow the wired controller in the system settings before it will work. Also most adapters also work via the USB-C OTG cable apart from the Brook Converter. Also you will need a stand as the USB port is on the bottom :-)

Modern consoles will turn themselves off if they get to hot. If it does that you will need to give it an hour or so for it to cool back down before you start playing again. If you are still worried about the heat, you should always have the console in an open space so it has plenty of airflow.

So my monitor only supports 120 Hz with DVI. My monitor has hdmi but only for 60Hz. Will this setup allow me to get 120Hz since it's DVI? Or does it being HDMI complicate things
HDMI cables don't go past 60hz as far as I know. But you shouldn't be able to get past 60hz either way since all games on consoles are capped at 60fps/30fps.
@@hugopfeffer4175 Games might be, but microsoft recently allowed the support of 120hz on the xbox one s and x. Brandon, I have the same question as you, sorry i dont have an answer :)
@@Sflreaction That's nice to hear but still, the console hardware sadly just isn't enough for the 120 fps experience making this new 'feature' useless. Games like RDR2 are at 30fps. The games that are going to be benefiting from this are games like Rocket League.

Brandons question is " Will this setup allow me to get 120Hz since it's DVI?" and saying games cant reach that frame rate has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that xbox supports. Im sure he understand that majority of games dont support above 60hz

Don’t know if you’ll see this but did u find anything out? I just got an adapter and it just made my screen flicker but it did allow me to change to 120hz but irl if I got a faulty adapter or not

I bought a splitter for about £12 (HDMI in, HDMI video + 3.5mm audio out), and the audio doesn't work. The video signal passes through ok.
It says it's USB powered (and I've plugged it into the back of the XB1X) but has no led to indicate it's "on".
Going to send it back but before I do is there any setting on the console that needs changing?
Wow I just fixed it. In case it helps anyone else - even though you're using an HDMI to DVI cable, you *don't* select DVI in Display & Sound > Video Fidelity & Overscan > Display (Overrides).
Instead select HDMI or Auto-detect. Not sure why I ended up on DVI in the first place but there we have it.
That's made my morning!
Update 2: Just disconnected the USB power and it made no difference, audio still works. Seems like it's a passive (non-powered) unit even though it has a mini USB socket and comes with a cable!
