Thanks for checking out our channel and subscribing. Can’t wait to check out some of your videos. We’re heading to Southeast Asia at the end of September, and Norway is on our bucket list as well.
@@388_days We probably won't be back to Asia until 2025. We're going to Japan for a month, and I (Jennifer) really want to get Jonathan to the Philippines. But keep Norway on your list. It's a 100% win!
Thanks for point that out. We feel like we should represent the best of our country and that means respecting the rules in buildings, museums, public transit, and pretty much any public space. We don’t want to be those annoying “American” tourists 😂.
Local here. Thank you for the tour, everything is accurate. Except the part about filming in Central market. Noone cares about filming, the sign is meant more for public corporate media purposes, I think. You are more than welcome to show off the Central Market. Some people are just afraid of cameras and they bark, that's fine. Welcome!
Thank you so much for watching our video and commenting. We received several replies about the filming in the market. Honestly, we just didn’t want to be annoying tourist who ignored the rules and signs. We want to show the parts of the countries and cities that we visit and enjoy, but we also want to be respectful. Next time we are in Riga, we will definitely go back to the central market and try to capture some film because it really is one of the most beautiful markets we have visited.
We have heard a number of stories, including that it is a symbol of Peter’s betrayal of Jesus which the pope decreed must be displayed on all church steeples. That is probably the more accurate version, but we liked the story our local Riga guide told us ☺️
@@388_days Some say, that years ago the roosters were moving in wind and if its pointing 1 way its going to be something bad or whatever and the opposite, so now they fixed them on the good side only, some say it was a symbol of success and luck
What brings you to Latvia ? 😊Very nice ! You were in Belgrade and you hopped over a few countries to go to Riga? This is a pleasant surprise in your travel itinerary :)
Latvia seemed like a good place to visit. There was a very short and inexpensive plane ride over to Riga from Belgrade, it was the best time of year to visit, and we found a great Airbnb that was very reasonably priced. Everything just sort of fell in to place.
We took lots of public transport and a few cars. We didn't feel the streets were particularly bad. They were cobblestone which can be difficult to walk on, but we have seen much worse throughout our travels.
Thanks for all the great feedback and for watching our videos. Let us know if you have any suggestions for a future visit to Latvia. We definitely want to see some other cities.

We received that same comment from someone else. Thank you for sharing. The Free Walking Tours in Vecriga are where we head the story we shared in our video.
It is not true, you can film and take photos in public places, it is provided for in the legislation. Someone may not like it, they can ask for it, but it is forbidden in public places. Then surveillance cameras would also be illegal.
Thanks for the information about filming in the market. I noticed many people taking and posting videos on TH-cam, but there are signs at the entrance of the covered market that indicate video is not allowed. We just decided there must be a reason they posted those signs and we decided not to film. Also, I had a police officer in Serbia get very angry at me for filming myself outside a government building so I didn’t want to press my luck when there was clearly a sign. We had just arrived from Serbia so that experience was still fresh in my mind. We also want to be respectful of local customs and laws and we just aren’t familiar enough with those details in all of the countries we visit. Thanks again for visiting our channel and commenting on our videos. It’s always great to learn new information.

Didn't you drive by car along Riga's streets? No? Then you don't know Riga in reality. The worst roads in whole Europe.
