    Videos like these are a really good confidence boost!!
    I’m getting my first actual Lolita dress shipped to me around my birthday and I want to start wearing the fashion more and more. I did try to go with a home made Lolita look but a lot of people kept looking at me.
    Hopefully people will be more accepting of alternative styles in the future

      Hi, awesome that your first ordered dress!! I hope it's lovely_ in my experience some people will never be accepting, but it depends on the culture. I'm in my thirties and I still continue to get together with my friends, and do some amazing fashions with Lolita and events, despite looks from people 🎉🎉🎉🎉 it was hard in the beginning because I was shy. But now I just tried to maintain friendliness, and not focus on weird looks from strangers❤ Hi from Colombia !

      I think for the most part, people that are looking are admiring you, so don't feel bad if people are looking! They're likely interested and curious more than anything. I think that your headspace at the time that you get looks affects how you percieve them too, like if you see people smile and are in a bad mood, it might feel like they're teasing, but if you're in a better mood you can see they're actually cheered up and feel happy to see someone dressed in high spirits. So I recommend to wear it when you are in a good mood most of all, or going out with friends. If you don't feel comfortable enough for public Lolita I would recommend looking for some "casual lolita" styles, or even just wearing lolita dress without petticoat that at least can take the awkwardness around the skirt size away (especially if you go in crowded spaces). There's also many similar fashion genres that are a bit more toned down but share some Lolita influences, like Jirai-kei and Otome-kei, I find they're like a nice medium between EGL and casual clothes in terms of perceived formality.

    Advantages with lolita I found were always kids saying I look like a princess or telling their moms that I'm a princess, it puts a smile on my face all the time.
    Most disadvantage of the fashion is people asking if I'm little bo peep all the time. No I lost my sheep a long time ago in wonderland (Wonder cookie OP from AP)

    Lolita fashion is so cute and pretty. If this is being treated like all the other normal clothes rather than being seen as weird, I'd have more confidence wearing fancier lolita in public. I feel like a part of me dislikes some more fancy lolita dresses because I know this is not something I can wear outside without sticking out like a sore thumb. Society's pressure really gets me sometimes

  • @OrlaithPL

    When I used to wear lolita fashion people used to stare not at me, but at my boyfriend. He's wearing normal clothes and people were giving him stares saying "why is he with such a weird girl, is it his wicked fetish?". And he wasn't even a fan of this style, he only accepted it because I liked it and he wanted me to be happy.

One benefit though was being able to chat to some lovely like-minded or curious people because you stand out.

    all the positive comments from the people were kind of shocking. In my country people don't tend to say what a lovely dress, they will just stare at you most of the time. Although that, people who compliment you for wearing the fashion are so nice and make your day. some people never saw people dressing the way lolitas do so i can understand the behavior.

    If in Japan where I find the most educated people ever, do that, then forget about other countries. IMO, just shrug it off. The time we live in which everyone is a walking camera , everything that stand out will be photographed and filmed. I hate that too, but if I would dress up like you in a daily basis, I would mentally prepare myself for the rude people. It doesn't pay to get angry on behalf of them. Sad but true. It reminded me back in the nineties when people found out you were into anime and such, you would definitely be the talk of town. People act stupid when they don' understand something or are left out. Unfortunately we are minority and we stand out because of that.

      There are many ways to afford lolita fashion! You can start off small with a simple jsk/skirt, blouse and stockings+shoes! Devilinspired.com and lolitawardobe.com both have dresses and skirts for as low as 10USD. Technically you could buy everything else from regular clothing stores, if you play your cards right. Simple solid color tights are good for many coordinates, and you can get them at any clothing store. Sometimes I have also seen some cute frilly blouses at h&m etc. that you could wear with your coordinate, although the sites I've previously mentioned also have some really cheap options. As for shoes, mary janes and creepers are quite trendy now, so could also find those, mostly in black though, so they aren't really suitable for sweet coords. If you want pastel coloured shoes, you might have to buy them from lolita stores. I found some really cute ones for 30USD! The brands Classical puppets and Aurora & Ariel have pretty affordable petticoats (please do not skip petticoats, they are essential to achieve that classic lolita look. Invest in a good quality petticoat, cheap petticoats usually have to be layered to achieve a good poof, and that will be a lot more uncomfortable and expensive than if you just bought one 30USD petticoat. You will not regret it!). The shipping costs and customs from these sites might be kind of expensive depending where you live, since their warehouses are both in China. Egl.circlly.com is a second hand site, where you can buy pieces from other lolitas, and the shipping costs aren't that expensive. You can find clothing and shoes there for even cheaper than the ones I mentioned! Your accessories and jewerly don't have to be made for lolita either. You can wear necklaces and earrings that you already own, or buy ones that match your coordinates theme and colours. You can find many treasures from fleamarkets! As for headresses, berets look really cute with lolita, and you can buy a good quality one for about 10USD from h&m (I bought one just the other day). If you want a headbow or a choker, you can just take a piece of ribbon and tie it in your hair (you do not need a wig to be lolita) or around your neck, for a simple but cute look! If you're particularly crafty, you can find a lot of tutorials for accessories on the internet ( www.fyeahlolita.com/p/lolita-tutorials.html has a few). I'm also just a beginner though, so I recommend talking to more experienced lolitas. Big Sisters of Lolita fashion is a group on facebook, where you can ask any questions you may have from other people in the group.
      Don't let anything stop you from expressing yourself and doing the things you love!

      Some can be mashine washed, but on gentle cycle with gentle detergent. If you take them out of the washer right after the cycle finished, and dry them on hangers it also reduces wrinkles (ironing the ruffles was the worst part of wearing lolita for me). But some dresses should be hand-washed.

    Window to a curious world; thanks for this CC. Would never wear any of this though, I much prefer everything simple and black. Look up Moi-meme-Moitie, Atelier Boz and Excentrique. They all do some lolita as well as gothic and aristocrat styles, and many of their clothes have very severe, clean lines without the ruffles and maximalism you see in some other pieces.

    • @namitidecaller7623
      @namitidecaller7623 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moi Meme Moitie is no longer active, the shop is closed, but I recommend checking the best lolita dress shop:
      Baby The Stars Shine Bright
      There is a store in Japan (the original), one in Paris if I'm not mistaken, and two in the US. So you can find the website in english. And this shop has a branch called Alice and the Pirates, where you're most likely to find dresses with darker colours and less bows.
      It's stunning, but prepare your wallet, a good lolita dress will NEVER be cheap.

    Women in the west need to get back to wearing old fashioned dresses, or just dresses in general for everyday wear. The feminity here is at an all-time low. Women usually wear drab clothing with pants and act like men. It's depressing.

    • @tinimeanie
      @tinimeanie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      JPL1o618 cause its easier to move in pants and more practical. especially since society automatically chooses the male as a main role in society. especially in the workplace. Acting manly in a sense is a way for men to see us in a more serious way. but most of all telling a lady to wear a damn dress is kinda annoying.

    • @JPL1o618
      @JPL1o618 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      tinimeanie If you dress and act like a man, don't expect to be treated like a woman. In the workplace, men view serious career women like they do other men, unless they are naturally hyperfeminine. If this is want your going for, ok. But women are created to be in a domestic environment raising the next generation. This is the only way marriage can last and both spouses be truly happy. I know this because I've seen it in several instances in the real world, in my family and the Bible confirms it. Any other gender roles result in a sad replica, lots of divorces and/or a complete disaster.
