  • This my Rover series 200 PowerMaster motor mower. (Briggs and Stratton engine)
It was due for a service and a few repairs. I also decided I needed to replace the horrible homemade muffler with a slightly less horrible (but still homemade) one.

I Brought one of these today at a junkyard. I brought it because it had a grass catcher with it. But it turns out the mower was better then I thought. It has new oil, new air filter, new blades and a new spark plug

Nice find, unfortunately mine didn't have the grass catcher. They are a really nice mower!

Not a bad effort mate. I bought some blades for my rover and didn't know where the metal spring washer thingy went. Cheers for that.

I have inherited one of these, its really hard to start (I was given specific instructions on how to start it) and when it does run dies easily under load. I feel like it's fuel starvation. What do you reckon?

Hmm, bit hard to tell without seeing it. An issue that I've had is with the automatic choke. If you take the screw off the top of the carb (where the air hose connects) you should see a little butterfly valve, this should be closed when the engine is stopped. When the engine starts it will open automatically as vacuum builds.
It the valve is stuck open it could be causing a lean condition on start.
The carbs are quite simple, it might be worth pulling it apart (take photos) and give everything a squirt with some carb cleaner it might clear a small blockage.
Finally there's a hole on the plate in front of the carb with a flathead screw in it. This is the mixture screw, try loosening the screw a little for a richer mixture, go 1/4 turn at a time and give 10 seconds after each adjustment to see if it works.
      Good luck!

@@grannyflatgarage7599 thanks for that, I threw a compression tester on it and got 0psi reading. Confirmed the compression tester on my other mower 70psi. No idea how it still starts and runs though.

Yup that will do it. If it still runs occasionally it might be a stuck valve, rather than rings or bore, Maybe try pulling the cover off (it's in the video) and slowly crank the engine to see if one of the valves isn't moving. It could just be some carbon build up which you might be able to clean from the exhaust port.
      Good luck!

My one smokes like yours and smells like it’s burning oil! Do you think changing the ring could be a solution?

    • @grannyflatgarage7599
      @grannyflatgarage7599  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Gianni,
This one doesn't usually smoke, I had it sitting on the front wheels so I could see where the oil leak was coming from underneath, and all the oil ran into the head.
If your's is doing it regularly then it could be the piston rings, it could also be the valve stem seals or the filter in the PCR (@ 5:28) allowing oil into the intake.
I hope you have some luck with it!

I'd never actually used one of these before and didn't know what all the fuss was about. But I recently had that pleasure and let me tell you, I'm definitely thinking of modding it in!
