What you don't realize is the boss me35 found in an attic is the magic old 58 blues guitar of yesteryear. I have a ME25 that I used for live bar and mid sized shows for years because it was one pedal (simple, light), made of metal (drunk proof), has a bright, easy to read interface (for when you're the drunk), and does the five things I needed 'good enough'. And I just know that someday one of my kids is gonna find that thing in a mismatched behringer bag in storage and they're gonna dig it out and dial in some weird phaser setting I personally hated at the time, and make some real magic with it in whatever sci fi music they're doing in 15 years. Thank you for the story Ken. Please release the alternate take if it exists, we'd all love to hear it.
My cat does that too when I start hooking up my guitar, she starts chirping and runs out of the room. (and then I make sure to close the door until I'm done so I don't hurt her little ears.)
Can confirm. Learned that the first time I tried to sing & play it at the same time. Could always sing it note-for-note diving down the road. Basically learned the progression watching Ken play it at shows, reading his fingers like someone else might read lips, tried to do the two together, had veins sticking out of my neck & forehead, and sprained both giblets trying to sing it up a full step. It was actually busting out this video and playing along with it that made me realize my guitar wasn’t in tune with his. My solution was to snap on a capo at the 5th fret, and play the Dm using the Am chord shape on the first five strings. Basically up an octave. Cheers!
That’s awesome!
This is amazing. Ken is one of my all time favorite guitarists. Great to hear the story behind the tone.
One of the greatest guitar players EVER
I love Jagged! Knowing a little piece of Old 97s history to go alongside it makes it that much more amazing.
I want to hear it played with the tone he WANTED it to have!
I'm such a huge fan of your playing, Ken and Old 97s are so great. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in Albany, NY at the end of September!
Fell in love with that jagged tone on the first listen. Thanks for memory share!
Damn!! I gave away a Boss pedal like that. Digital and all. I know the sound he’s talking about as well.
So much fun! And love how the cat shared your excitement over the lights coming on. 😻

I love it! You guys are everything that I like about Texas, including a Telly with that tone on it. ✌️
Good sir I just wanted to say thank you. Y'all's music really helped me out during a really rough time. I wish you & your family the best
One of my guitar hero right there! He has a Pete Anderson ish way of playing. I love the music and sounds he gets from his guitar
Really like this band.

I'm hoping this means we'll be hearing Jagged at the Troubador in September.
+Sandy Melhorn I'll be there! Lets hope so.
The kitty at 3:15...
2:53 is where Ken becomes an evil mastermind. 😛
Hilarious. I have that same pedal sitting in my closet untouched for prolly ten years.
😯 so you can tell me if it's BOSCH or BOSS?
@@jalexander6699it’s a boss
Shit, I think I have something close to that sitting in my attic...
Also, I miss the days of the big music store where you could get almost anything you needed. sigh
There's a cat in the background? 3:13
I am glad you lost the argument
I'm buying an me-30 now
The unique tone is not just from the pedal. Looks like your axe is also detuned a full step, right?
