Thought the exact thing. But even if it’s not alpha, why would I spend $40 on a game I already dropped $90 on. Bro, all this simping for a shit game is why they fuck with us. They do this stuff because they can. They will ever learn if it doesn’t hurt their bottom line.

He’s also pretty great to point out what’s applicable for streamers/blasters and say that his opinion is just that and probably has less relevance to all normies
I've been following Rax for years and he consistently gives the pros and cons. The biggest difference I've seen is blizzard now listens to him and makes changes that improve the game. He wore them down with his spreadsheets lol
@@jonr7364 there’s no telling if it will be more enjoyable for raxx. I know quite a few that really feels like Poe 2 isn’t really for the og poe crew. honestly, its a hard pass to buy the expansion for me, the new character/area doesnt make me want to give blizzard more money than i have already, ill wait till its on sale or something, atm, dont care, game is missing so much content for the endgame.... why pay them for failing to live up to their promises.
Same for me, I feel like they don't really have a solid direction for the game and what they want to do with it. I didn't mind with D4 because well, I already bought the game so I would enjoy (or hate) every seasons in between PoE seasons and have fun a few days before I was left with nothing to do. This close to PoE 2, I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt anymore.
this is always a fair opinion. Maybe catch it on sale later and stuff. As someone who pays a sub for ff14 I found that A) Diablo 4 has redeemed itself from a horrible launch and B) The amount of content for $40 that is on par with the state of diablo 4 currently is just about worth it. $40 is less than 4 months of a subscription and I am sure we will still see new stuff added in the next year before the next expansion drop. I also always think back to how I owned d3+1 expansion on pc but I never truly played it until I bought it again on switch with 6+ years of refinement. So in a way this is all par for the course.
I left after first season for until coming back for season 5. I had a great time with five and really enjoyed the end game. Put in 180 hours on my Sorc for 1 season. Idk about you, but 150-200 hours is worth 40$ to me.
@@drowsspeed1 I played season 1 to 4, season 5 was during one of the best PoE seasons so I didn't bother. I played and enjoyed much more D2:resurrected than I have D4 in the same span of time.
That comment about chipotle really hit close to home. Used to love eating there back when it was $8 a bowl. Now it’s 12-13 before even adding anything extra.

As a solo player - I'm done with the game. Glad people like it but raids are the reason why I'm NOT playing MMOs anymore. I'll wait for PoE2 next month
I would be OK if it was completly optional, but from what I understand the Scroll re-tempering is exclusive to these raids? Which to me means you're forced to do this group content if you to progress into the more end-game. What a letdown.
I’m not sure of the inside joke, but I genuinely wonder how he doesn’t get hot. Is the AC always running on high? My game room gets hot with PC and Monitor and there’s no way I could game in a hoodie during the summer

The raids being locked behind group play is an L for me. I prefer to play ARPGs solo. If there is major upgrades locked behind the raids I'm out. I'm so sick of Blizzard constantly screwing over solo players.
With all the visual clutter the game is almost unplayable with other players around, I don't even see where my character is and what is going on. Now multiplayer only raids, I think I will pass on that.
I am a 45 year old gamer that has been playing Diablo since the early days of Diablo 1. I continued to play Diablo even the dumpster fire that was d3 religiously because of nostalgia and ignorance. I bought d4 hoping blizzard would return to the glory days of respecting their player base and not assuming we can’t understand complex systems. After season 2 of d4 which I finally tried Poe after raxx recommended it. I realized that there was finally a company out there that respects a players ability to learn complex systems and have actual depth. The day I vaal orbed my helmet which gave me a 90% efficiency allowing me to fit in another aura and completely changed my build is the day I said goodbye to Diablo. To anyone thinking of paying these clowns anymore money do yourself a favor and wait for Poe 2, you won’t regret it.
Poe is game where you have to follow a certain build in order to get end game activities done. If you mess up in any path, youll be screwed up and made to reset your whole skill tree just to get it right. Boring and you can't come up with your own builds
The excessive POE fellating is one of the biggest turn offs to people looking from the outside in. POE is not a perfect game. There’s a lot of shitty things about it. Too many systems from previous seasons, for example. Uniques are terrible. Loot bloat with 99% of it being absolutely trash. Inventory system sucks. Lots of problems.
@@AlexAlex-od7fjOf course you can come up with your own builds - you just need to understand and get your head around some complex mechanics. PoE2 however looks like it's going to address the accessibility for new players.

@@RudeDude69 You can see the cracks in poe after hundreds if not thousands of hours in. You see the issues with diablo during levelling and it only gets worse.
A lot of the negative things you listed about launch just made me think "but that's still broken!" Tons of builds still have to work around bugs, dungeons still require backtracking, horses still suck, stash space limits people playing all classes, ... We'd be complaining now if these things hadn't been been even worse at launch.
so many bugged " builds " or interactions , never seen game in such state.. and ppl cry when something get fixed.. then you do not follow broken build and you can not finish content because it is built around bugged builds, worst dev team ever such a trash
@@jirikolar8601Nothing you said makes any sense. I've always made my own builds and clear all content on hc. The game is way too easy. You're trash at this braindead easy game.
Stash space is a complete non-factor these days man. If you are hording that many items at this point, it's a you problem. The codex change completely solved the stash issue.
I paid for a "full game" for 90 usd with early access etc. And a minimum of 5 seasonal content throughout the year. They gave me like 2 seasons of content and some sort of finished game at the end, but "the end-game" is in the xpac. Why woud i paid more when they still owe me the basic game w endgame in it?
Exactly that and one thing most content creators for Diablo are currently not mentioning is the fact that Blizzard has already pretty much confirmed that more expansions will follow (For sure with the same pricing). So this one is only the beginning.
I spent $100 for an unfinished product already at launch with small improvements until now. This should actually be the 1.0 launch now and be free. Gonna be really hard to convince me to spend $40 more.
small improvements they entirely overhauled the game for free and most of the updates you get are also free, that exntire expansion cost tens of millions to make stop crying like a spoiled brat. D2 lod launched at 40$ and had far less content in 2004 fucking hell
54 bucks in Canada too, pretty much gonna be the first blizzard release I pass on ever. And I purchased StarCraft 1 on release for myself. I’m just tired of blizzard, I’m tired boss..
Times that hard? I'm going to get the xpac, and I'll get the best supporter pack for poe 2. If $50 for a new game is a big deal maybe you have more important things to worry about.
@@johnWayne-df6rm That's some cope right there. I make a great living and I won't be buying the xpac because charging $40 for what should have been the base game feels foolish to me. If you like the game that much, cool, it's money well spent. If you don't like the base game much, then why even spend $0.01 on it?
Well whether we should buy it is entirely subjective. Key factors that affect this are how much disposable income a person has, how much self respect they have, and the quality of Diablo 4, among other reasons. For me I’ll be waiting until it’s on sale or free. I don’t love the game enough to overcome the disrespect blizzard has had in charging $70 for a half assed beta release. Plus I will be playing a lot of poe2 soon anyway. Because of this and a few other reasons I just can’t justify buying it.
Will only watch 2 reviews, one from my favorite lore master from diablo Brazil fans and the other from my favorite professional blaster for the tech details of the expac.
Well, that was diablo 3 too, sadly. In the other hand, in the old days, i remember having to rush when the cyber cafe we used to go opened to snatch a computer because everyone was rushing to get in and play Diablo 2. People didnt even need to ask if it was good. They just had to see you playing for a bit and say "damn i want to play that too".
Honest and valuable feedback as usual Raxx. But for me as a solo player I feel gutted that the Dark citadel rewards and thus unbricking won't be available which is just unbelievable. I won't be forced into doing silly mechanics in D4 or forced to do party play. There is a good reason I won't anymore.. Been there, done that too much in wow with enough drama and frustration. So $ 40 for just 1 class is a big no for me.. $20 would be more appropriate. So 'funny' that even after all this time D2 runes are so much better than what is coming in D4... I mean, are they incapable of adapting or learning.... sjeez..
They announced youll get the scrolls with the season journey and has a small chance to drop in overworld albeit the chance to get them will probably be terrible but, it isn't locked behind a paywall since they will be available base game. I do agree with runewords being meh though it's true.
It shouldn't be paid whatsoever. No other popular arpgs besides grim dawn make you pay for large updates and Grim Dawn is only because it has no seasons or anything just the expansions to recoup money. Blizzard are just greedy fucks.
You dont have to play with ramdoms, join a clan or meet some ingame people and play with them regularly. I was thinking like you back in season 1, then i met some cool people and we founded a clan, now we are a group of around 10 people and we play together regularly. If not for them i would have spent 1/10 of the time i spent on this game
Imagine creating one of the best games of all time in Diablo 2 and then going “nah f that, let’s do an open world Diablo with terrible loot.” fumbling this hard is actually incredible. Edit: after watching this video rax admits mercenaries and rune words were better in Diablo 2. How do you mess up a winning formula this bad?
This is what grinds my gears the most. They even made a great remaster, and started to make some great changes in new seasons, all to abandon it for this bs. But again, they own the rights of the winning formula, is it that hard to just modernize it a bit and give players some good ol' farming? The sad reality is this tactic of releasing broken overpriced promises into "we'll fix it" expansion with low effort seems to be where the money is. Sadly. There is no other way to explain it. And they can just stretch if for long periods with the carrot on the stick of going to fix it while you play totally time-gated games.
I completely agree with your stance on Runewords. I feel like they would have been fun to find if they were used for more things. Instead of the scroll of re-tempering, what if you consumed some very rare runes to guarantee the roll. Not a high roll, but the roll will be the stat you want in a random range. So you find a GG piece and don’t want to brick it? Shell out for some rare and expensive runes Another interesting idea would be using runes to augment stats on gear in a better way as well. Like each rune has a corresponding stat it translates to. If you shove that in the reforge lady, then you’re guaranteed to get that stat. OR make them a way to augment a piece of gear OUTSIDE of the one reforge roll. Maybe the item has a GG greater affix but two crappy stats. You take some exceedingly rare runes that you combine together and you’re able to alter one of the crappy stats into a specific state of your choice. The rarer the stat, the more demanding the rune choices would be. Hell, introduce runes that drop for the sole purpose of being used in this way. Like you have your runes that you socket and your runes that can be mega rare but let you break the established rules of Diablo if you manage to find one by augmenting your gear in ways you couldn’t normally. Then we’re not only looking at trading GG pieces, but also some pieces that are close but too far to be GG can be fixed with some rare rune drops that don’t do anything other than be a rare AF rune and is used for crafting exclusively.
You know what Square Enix did when ff14 came out? It was a catastrophic mess. You know what they did to fix it? Gave a year of free time, remade the game from the ground up, then didn't charge us again for the new game they practically made. And, that is before we get other games that give us free expansions and no battle pass junk etc... So, D4 gives us a 70 dollar game or more that is broken, brushes some paint on it, hides cool things in the "Shop", spits in my face every battle pass and wants to reach into my pocket for 40 bucks? At least wine and dine me before you F me blizzard. I'll take my 40, buy lost epoch and have 10 bucks left over or buy some tabs on POE2. I will live D4 through Raxx which is enough for me. Enjoy the game whoever does, really enjoy it, it is a really pretty game I guess.
I wish more creators were like you. You were clear, succinct and straight to the point. You offered your opinion but made it clear that you can't decide if someone should buy. Thank you for the great review (I've already bought it but I wanted your take)
Good video. I’m one of those guys who refuse to give blizzard anymore money and is waiting for Path or exile 2. That said I do see an audience for this game now. It’s come a long way but it’s not for me. Looking forward to your POE content Raxx.
come a long way? It regressed to fuck when they released it with no end game. It's not been getting anywhere but back to the wanky position it is now, which is worse than D3 before it's expansion (ok maybe not but you get my point). For this game to come a long way it needs to at least match Diablo 3 first. Then Diablo 2. Then maybe they come a long way to make a better game. But you are right, Path of Exile is the future. Not this pile of refactored dogshite.
Kinda refreshing to see a comment saying sorry its not for me but I see a market for it. Half the time it's just regurgitating "D4 bad" and adding absolutely nothing to the discussion. Thank you for being able to look at it objectively and get your point across without sounding like a 2 year old who lost their pacifier 😂
@@TheJohhnyE d2 endgame was the ubers and PVP so what do you mean? And bear in mind that d2 released before ARPGs were a real thing in the western market. So end game wasn't even a concept and now it is a standard we expect it.
@tehf00n it's not the end game that's an issue, it's the items. They're boring. It'd all about ubers. The itemisation and the rarity of items and runes that made D2 grindable. Getting that enigma for paladin, finding SOJ etc made you want to play. Here it's just get a few ubers and you're done. POE is only fun as it has so many different game modes and lots of items. The end game isn't exactly fun, but it's getting the rare items thay make it rewarding and gives you that dopamine hit.
@@attilad.8142 Yep. It will probably sell better than it should (feels pricey for the content). It won't blew up the Elden Ring DLC sales out of the water and shame FS form not having MTX - which means that hundreds of millions are a few hundreds of millions short of overestimated numbers. Christmas sales incoming. /s
My main gripe at the moment is that 40$ is a big ask from people who already feel like they wasted their money on the base version of the game when it came out. We all left for a reason.
I appreciate the integrity of the video. A lot of youtubers/streamers with this kind of access are afraid to say what they actually think because they're worried they'll get their access revoked. It's a shady thing that developers do sometimes to give access only to creators who will sell out and hype up the game no matter what. I'm glad that I at least don't feel like that's what's happening here lol.
Lets gooooo! Only started the vid just now, but hopefully the game could be repaired to be actually fun lol appreciate your content and thanks for sticking around!
I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign experience at launch, and then they have fixed pretty much everything else I had complaints about in the seasons that followed. Now with a number squish and progression adjustments, game seems to be hitting a new level now. Can't wait to dive in. My only concern is that I play almost exclusively solo. It does tend to taint my view of a game when they start locking things behind group play. To see Diablo going in this direction is concerning. If I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of stuff I may move on from the game entirely, in favor of something that doesn't punish me for playing my way.
Thanks for an unbiased view. You are the best Diablo creator for that reason alone. I have been undecided on this expansion for fear I was just buying it for FOMO. I was excited watching your video till you reached the Dark Citadel. I work a fairly stressful job and sometimes I want to just turn off my brain and play alone. This isn't an MMO and hiding a mode behind team play seems a strange decision. How is choice worse? Add to that the fact, (unless I misunderstood), that they are making re-tempering items only available from the reward from it and I wonder what else they will hide behind expansions going forward. I do fear this will make expansions mandatory.
I don't think you fully thought out that last statement of "if you want the game to thrive, you should buy" If we give them money, that tells them that they've done a good job and deserve a reward even though a year after release there is still no endgame in this ARPG and the supposed endgame that is coming is locked behind a paywall, has forced multiplayer even though according to their own data most people play solo, there are tons of quality of life things still missing and even though season 4 was "loot reborn" they're going back on all those changes. They have a battle pass and an endgame shop that tons of people regularly spend money on. They're not starving for money. If the vast majority of people didn't buy and pre-order the expansion, that would send them the message that they need to do more than the bare minimum they've been doing. With everyone purchasing the expansion, all it does is reward them for an incomplete game and tell them that their playerbase will support them no matter what.
This. I enjoyed D4 but since the announcement of the expansion, my enthusiasm for the game has weaned off. Also not forgetting blizzard mentioning that they plan for annual paid expansions. It's crazy how this is a paid game with season pass and cosmetic shop and still trying to cash in more with paid expansions. Even crazier that people are so willing to pay for them and defend these scummy practices. No wonder corporations keep screwing customers as most bend over backwards asking for more. sigh.
Gosh Blizzard will stop "developing" D4 are I not going to buy the xpac? It does me no favors. Besides, they're mowing down a good cabbage for a season pass and skins at the price of more than one game.
Im assuming most people, like me, dont have a good AARPG with new content they want to play. I think many people will buy the xpac. Not sure how many people buy any of the cosmetics. Havent seen any that i really have to have or mildly even wanted. Unlike POE, the mtx is really poor and doesnt matter to most people.
Your reviews are by far the most fair I've come across. Your style is a perfect balance of "what's good, what's bad, what needs improvement," and the way you lay it out is excellent. Keep up the good work!
One of the biggest gripes I have about the game is the dungeons and the bosses. It seems to me that there are like 3-4 templates with little to no variations. And the bosses seems just too dull and pointless. Also, I get bored easily with the leveling, so my wish is that there would be more endgame activities. I don't really like that most, if not all, changes are to make the game easier. I really don't understand that.
Hey Raxx, I have great news! I built a Smiter recently in D2R and finally over the weekend I farmed enough keys on my Nova Sorc to try Ubers. I’m happy to report after about an hour of struggling and figuring things out I finally completed my first Uber’s clear and I have the standard of heroes to prove it lol Sorc torch…. Sometimes lucky.
Raxx thank you for all the hard work and great info. I'm a "No" on the expansion, primarily because I had a very difficult time in the PTR. I feel like the streamers and myself were playing different games. I also do not like the new leveling system, the new paragon limitations, the new world tiers, or the runewords. I will watch your stream playing the expansion and see how it goes. Perhaps you will change my mind. And like you said, a lot of things should have been included at launch and not cost an extra $40 to have. I'm open to my mind being changed.....
litterally all the major updates are free, you're paying for a new area, the mercs and the game modes oh no how terrifying the smae thing every game does D2 not only had far less content with LOD they charged 40$ in 2004 for it, people really need to stopy crying like a baby. The expansion alone costed tens of millions to make, all the updates also cost money, so does the servers etc its not like it didn't cost anything to make unlike cosmetics which cost next to nothing to make since it only takes a few artists a few days to make them granted at 40-60$ an hour average 8 hour shift is expensive but in the total grand scheme it costs pennies and sell for 20-30$ which is crazy to me, then again poe a costmetic set costs around 60-100$, stash spaces you have to have if you actually play more than casual is around 40$ itself upwards of 100$ or so if you're into it.
Thank you Raxx for your honest opinions on D4! Also appreciate you are going to be giving a general overview and not how to min/max every part of the game prior to launch. I’m sure those vids will come with time, but really appreciate you giving us the info but still allowing us to theorycraft.
Long time Diablo player, obviously played D2 for literal hundreds of hours. D3 slowly won me over, and despite all my reservations about giving modern-day Blizz I was considering getting this... But forced-multi-player end game? Yeah just no.
I thought the malignant hearts were horrible as a season mechanic, but great as a core addition to the game (nerfing things like barber ofc). Would be interesting things to put in jewelry, as well as another item hunt once you reach end game
So I paid to play an incomplete game. The fixes since the initial launch leading up to and including the expansion is the game we should have originally received. This is how the gaming industry is run today and will continue to run in the foreseeable future. Very sad.
That's how the game industry has been run for 2 decades... you do realize this is litterally nothign new, most games never were finished and dlcs have been a thing since the early 2000s and maybe even before to add in content that they couldn't finished in time etc. All the major changes are given for free chill the fuck out, the expansion adds the mercs the new region and a couple game modes not a big deal everything else is in the base game, d2 added in a single act with lod and new classes and it also was sold for 40$ in 2004. This is adding much more for 40$ and cost way more to actually make than d2 ever did.

Buying Diablo 4 made me to not spend money on any Blizzard product ever again. I remember how Adam Jackson said during your interview with him, how much experience (i think he said 20 years) he and the Diablo 4 staff have in ARPG development, yet they needed to change EVERYTHING about the game and basically copy pasta Diablo 3. Either you die a hero, or you live long enough to release Diablo immortal.
Agreed, Blizzard have no integrity and only care about profits. Remember when they said that Shop cosmetics wouldn't outshine ingame ones because ingame ones would look just as good? complete lie. The fact that patch 2.0 basically turns D4 into D3R shows they had no direction for the game and just wanted to cash grab a base game + expansion before POE2 release.
the campaign was fun but with POE2 on the horizon im not spending $40 on an expansion that IMO barely adds any content. if it was adding like 4-5 new abilities per class and a hundred uniques maybe i'd consider it
um no most of the d4 team was not only new also had no experience with arpgs etc... so not sure where you got that from.. that was also during and around the merging of activsion blizzard and microsoft, the game we knew was rushed like every other game that exists has been for decades.

Anyways, much appreciated for what you do and never change. Honesty is a core value that is severely lacking in the modern climate, that's why it's so refreshing when someone like you embodies it so well.
I appreciate your open and honest opinion. This honestly sounds like the same shite they already pulled with D3: bad at launch (like, really bad) but ending up halfway decent in the end. I already gave Blizzard that second chance with D3. This sort of stuff (charging way to much for an incomplete product and then charging more for the rest of it) isn't ok and I'm just not willing to give Blizzard any more chances. I love the classic Diablo games of old (including D3) but enough's enough for me. I also still haven't forgotten about Warcraft 3 Reforged, either.
As someone that made the mistake to buy D3 at launch, and now D4 at launch, you are right. I wish at least i learned my lesson for 4. Money, and much worse, time wasted. Levelled to 50 and uninstalled. Not going thru all this shit again. It's just not worth it and there are a lot of great games out there where i can enjoy my time. The only good thing to come from Diablo was resurrected and they straight abandoned it when D4 released. Fuck blizzard.
All i want to know is does the season start with the launch of the expansion and can i paly the new campaign of the addon in the season while skipping the old campaign?
Same, I'm pretty excited about the direction of the game and the Expansion as a whole, but at the same time really bummed out about the state of Necromancer especially, considering it already feels unpolished, slow and clunky compared to the other 4 launch classes. @@subzero308 Have you played other Builds and especially other classes though? I did Sorc this Season and it's wild how much QoL terrain skips like Teleport give, how snappy skills like Flame Shield and Ice Armor etc. are, how free all the generic/open Paragon damage multipliers are to slot into any build. How many gearing/aspect/skills/passive options you have. And then you come back to Necro and the clunky after-casts of Curses almost feel like a bug/framedrop you have to constantly cast, watching Corpse Tendrils trigger to pull one group of mobs has you meanwhile clearing 5 screenlenghts on other classes, Blood Mist completely takes out all gameplay momentum as only proper defensive option, and getting the Paragon multipliers like Flesh-Eater and Blood Begets Blood is linked to awful clunky gameplay that so many builds have to force into their build because there just aren't any generic options. Minion (and Blood Lance/Wave) Necro is like the one exception where you don't have to deal with a lot of those things, because there are either enough alternative options and/or these things are part of the natural gameplay of those builds. My issue with Necro design is more apparent in almost all other builds, with things like having to spam Corpse Explosion five times every 6 seconds for Flesh-Eater, the weird ~0.5second after-cast on Curses, which have no visual indicator on mobs either, as well as how slow and near mandatory skills like Corpse Tendrils and Blood Mist are. Having tried other classes now, it's jarring how fluid they play and how many Aspect, Skill and Passive options they have in comparison.
Random question. If you haven’t completed all the renown, will you still be required to do that in order to get all the paragon points? Or is that going to be done now?
the tldr pretty much sounds like... if you're having fun playing d4, you'll have fun with this... if not, you'll not come back just for this... personally I'll give the season a go without the expansion for a few days... wait till the expansion goes on sale for Christmas and see if I feel like spending it on the game... or something better...
The summary of improvements at the Start of ur Video is really good, i didnt remember how this Game was. Unbelieveable i got a Char to 100 in Season 0.
I love the "yeah maybe I'll make a guide on rune words, I dunno, just pick up two runes and put them in your gear." Low-key perfect summary of why rune words in D4 feel so lazy in their design.
Just a note about not having enough flowers all the time: do legion events. They give you so many of the lesser resources that you need for portion crafting and stuff like iron and leather. One legion every once in a while will make it so you never have to go out of your way to pick flowers again
Think the problem with D4's runewords is that the runes have no solo effect. When I was a kid, runewords in D2 were almost a legend, some kind of magic that people said would happen if you combine some stones that gave you little bonuses. With D4 we have a system that you combine 2 stones that won't do anything alone, and that don't need any discovery.
the problem with d2 runewords is the rarity adn the fact you ran them over everything they dominated everything and it was always the same ones majority of the time which wasn't interesting or fun and rhe over reliance on the act 2 merc for 99% of builds was also really bad
@@yulfine1688 I mean, i played a TON of diablo 2 back in the day, did all the content on hardcore, and i can count the amount of high tier runewords i used on 1 hand. I remember using a decent couple of lower tier ones that were handy levelling up though.. Granted, i always played solo selffound. dunno if people actually traded.. or even how, pretty sure you didnt have a trade prompt And i have no idea what content got added after i left, so maybe later stuff actually required it But yea the act 2 merc was too good...
The issue was, the D2 rune system was great for people that were playing 1000+ hours, it was not fun for someone who played a few hours a week or even 10 hours a week. plus, the exploring the recipes will never, be exciting like it once was because, the internet wasn't full time theory crafters. etc. so i dont know if that can be recaptured. And to make them as game changing, they would need a lot more sockets, which would have to fight with mainstats, and be even better, I think this system allows creativity, but you can understand what you get. I am not sure if rune words of D2 would work well in D4.
They can make the runes multipurpose. You could socket them somewhere else, e.g. in a paragon board or in the skill tree and get a totally different effect. There's a lot of room to grow!
Did they fix somehow the affixes reroll from the Occultist so that you can pick up categories of 4/5 affixes like with tempering? I know that you can basically reroll at the Occultist “forever” but it’s a huge gold drop after a certain point and 9 on 10 you’ll never get the stat you want, there are just too many openings.
Game looks good, and im glad its in a better state for people like you. I agree $40 isnt exorbitant, but i can't justify it morally, even if i will enjoy the game. I want diablo as a franchise to thrive, but I dont want this business practice of releasing unfinished games to thrive; and im going to vote with my wallet, even if its only $40. Doesnt feel good to be played like a fool by game companies over and over again.
Hey Raxx! Great Video! I have one question and I can't find an answer online. My girlfriend and I woulkd love to play the campaign together. She hasnt finished the base campaign yet, I have tho. Will it be possible, if we both start a new character to play the new campaign as spiritborns as soon as the expansion drops or does she have to finish the base game campaign first or do we even both have to finish the base campaign first. Maybe you can help me out with this one! Cheers!
I agree I feel u should get 50% off for the edition u bought at launch... I bought the 100$ edition at launch and the 100$ Edition this time as well... I like the game nd play daily but I agree there was a lot of problems in the first few seasons.
they did, it was cheaper than the basegame and expansion, and considering our groceries are 50% more expensive since last year it is discounted, plus its the same price as LOD on launch, in 2000 or whatever.
I remember buying Warhammer 40k ARPG and loved it (people hated how slow it was but I liked it). After a short time, whilst I was almost fully geared up after grinding a couple of hundred hours, they decided the game had failed and they were refactoring it. But in order to keep playing I had to buy the expansion and my old character was pretty much dead in the water. I uninstalled that shit quicker than WWE2k
@@subzero308 wait... you think they should give you a discount but you pre-ordered the $100 version? You know they get away with this because people keep paying right? You understand that right?
Hate to break it to you, but they did. You had multiple chances to get it discounted. Maybe somebody should have made a rage bait video to let you know. 😂
Raids suck. I don't want to come back from work and then fail a raid for 2-3 hours because people can't do a simple mechanic or someone is constantly leaving. It's Destiny 2 raiding all over again.
do you want everything handed to you jesus stop crying, as for ssf mode there's a good reason they don't have one you can't have many mechanics with solo only and it adds in content not everyone has to do calm the fuck down, its not mandatory there's nothing god tier its cosmetics, the scroll drops everywhere and hordes will be great for them the citadel is clearly for the more hardcore playerbase, not for the casuals. Not every damn thing has to cater to you casual players you destory games just as much as the super hardcore players do or more often actually.
Thanks for this Raxx, nice take on the expansion cost. I can't pay for the expansion because I felt like we beta tested D4 for a year for 70 bucks !... I will try season 6, someone needs to do a review vid for season 6 w/o the expansion ! Rock On
@14:00 he gets to the point that is a deal-killer for me. I have played D4 completely solo up to this point and have gotten 3 characters to LVL 100 and really enjoyed it. As a non-traditional gamer, I do not have friends who play video games much less Diablo4 so if there is a mechanic that physically requires 2 people to cross a threshold, I am SOL. I understand I could go into any D4 forum and find some randos to play with but of the few times I have tried this, there wasn't a single session that was worth the crap I had to listen to/deal with. I just don't get why these companies feel like producing games that force co-op is the way forward. Have it as a feature for those who have the ability to play co-op but why would you completely dismiss a not inconsiderable portion of your player base by requiring it? I just don't get what it provides that is worth turning off so many potential players. Rant off...
To give part of the player base that wants more of the multiplayer content some genuine challenge. I think it's great. I'm most likely to enjoy thus content with my girlfriend. But I do also like to join up with randoms or discord pugs. It'd be a shame if you didn't get a chance to enjoy it but nonetheless not everything has to be for everyone.
@@Paroofek it would make more sense if the original game released coop. It wasn't and now I'm out an opportunity to continue the campaign. Why switch mid-course? There are plenty of coop games I would love to try but I choose not to buy them because they are coop and wouldn't have bought into D4 if it released coop. Too bad yu can't see someone else's perspective.
@ChuckHickl they did mention at the very beginning, when the game was first announced, that they want to go for more of an mmo-esque vibes. I was very much looking forward to a more social and multiplayer focused gameplay. I think your claim that I can't see someone else's perspective is unfair and somewhat hypocritical. You claim the game has moved away from what you wanted it to be. What about everyone else for whom the games is moving towards what they hoped it would be.
@@Paroofek not what I "wanted it to be" but what was advertised and sold to me as single-player capable game. this is something I look for when purchasing a game and I know what to look for so I don't end up with a game I cannot play so to have the rug pulled out from under me halfway through a storyline upsets me. not sure how that is hard to understand. there are a wide variety of these type of games that provide an "mmo-esque" vibe and as this is my first time to play a game in this genre that was single player, I have really been enjoying it. I guess I'm to feel satisfied that I got some of the story. Hope you find what you are looking for.
So, I am new, so I am starting with the first campaign, even though it said it recommended the new one. Is there anything wrong with trying to learn the history and lore of Diablo 4 by playing both and will I be able to play the vessel of hatred with my same character?
Love your content Raxx. Been following you since D3. Here's my $0.02.... I still feel like I paid Blizzard $70 to play test their beta, and now that they finally have a good game, they want me to fork over another $40. I'm a long time Blizzard fan, been playing since the Starcraft days, but I dunno man. Maybe.... and I mean maybe, if it goes on sale I'll pick it up, but I'm still disappointed and feel like Blizzard owes me a $70 game.
Raxx Thank you for the way you played the Early release man! I hate when people get to the game early and spoil everything for us non-Streamers and then it takes the fun out of it.
I don’t know about anyone else, but this expansion doesn’t feel worth $40 at all. It doesn’t even feel on the same level as Reaper of Souls, and that is really disappointing as D4 was possibly my most anticipated game of all time 💔
Definitely appreciate the honest content rax 👍 Between the citadel and the runewards i was looking forward to i wont be wasting my time. If they want to attempt mmo tactics like the citadel they can do that but walling those scrolls behind a paywall and group content is a big "fuck you" to solo players and ive had quite enough of that type of content in mmo's. Theres a reason i play arpg's.
I mean, the game is good now, not great, but it’s good. It just sucks that it took this long and an additional 40 bucks on top of the initial game price.
The run down of why D2 runewords are so cool really highlights how fun the experience of leveling up your character and just *playing through the game* is in D2 and I never felt that in my short time with D4
Please give them feedback about not being able to solo ALL contect. Not everyone has friends to team up for raids or feel comfortable playing with random pepole. I stopped almost completely playing with random pepole in D3 as there was too many toxic players and it was just waste of time for me trying to find a good group. Also sometimes you just can't find the group, no pepole joining then its just frustrating.
Thanks for your Review, Raxx! I just bought the expansion. While D4 isn’t the best game ever, I played every season for 1-4 weeks so far and I always had fun. Additionaly I still have a friend who is pretty hyped about D4 and having friends to play with was always more important to me, than the game itself 🙂
The last Season got me back to playing D4, and it was fun for a bit. I pre-ordered the expansion (normal version) because I'm interested in the new areas, and the new class. I'm not sure if I'll like the playstyle, but it'll be fun to experiment.
Hey Raxx with the removal of capstones do you think Blizzard would add Elias as a summonable boss at some point. He became a bit of a joke after tempering was added but in preseason and seasons 1 and 2 that guy kicked my ass and I will definitely miss the fight.
Diablo 3 mercs were just fine, particularly the enchantress. She has some powerful aoe cc. As long as you approached the mercs with the understanding that they deal zero damage, and just use them for utility, they were important. Except Lyndon. There was little way to make him useful, but he had the most entertaining lines.
So much about Diablo 3 is a ton better IMO. The ability to scale the difficulty at all times; the ability to pause dungeons in single player; and tons of the characters were fun and clean. I decided to not buy this expansion and play d3 when I get the itch
Another thing I would add in the QOL was the fact that there were no seasonal leaderboards. Leaderboards gave a competitive end-game purpose in D3 when running greater rifts for example
I know you said we can continue to do the seasons even without the expansion; but how does the season journey interact with players who don't own the expansion? Will there be new seasonal journey goal options that expansion-less players can't do?
Just like games should never require solo play... Yet people who like Coop we get F'd over all the time meanwhile solo players get whatever they want.. And it has Matchmaking that u dont even need a mic or anything for. Solo players just cry about everything.
its one bloody section of the game meant for the MP people and its not easy meaning its for the more hardcore players stop crying about every damn thing not catering to you. Seriously its not mandatory there's nothing super special its cosmetics chill
Few content creators can get to that type of "fame" and still be a down to earth person (TotalBiscuit, Day[9], Reckful]) and you, Rax, are in the top ranks. Thank you for all the content, you rock man. I still have the full stream where you said good night to me lol such a small thing but it was so cool even if it is a little silly.
my biggest problem with d4 and most games these days is... ITEMS wanna know the best feeling in the world (of warcraft)? finally getting the "deathbringer's will" trinket, or the dragonwrath staff with double spells. one single item and BOOM, your dps increases 20-30% ...something to farm, something to focus on, an item so powerful that when you get it and try it for the first time you think "YES! it was worth all the effort!" when everything is balanced, everything is mid, everything is MEH... that is blizzard's biggest failure, that's why runewords are gonna dissapoint everyone, and why people think "do i farm 5 hours for a 2% dps increase? nah, no thanks"
Well even now, getting shaco for the first time to drop does feels that way for a lot of builds or last season having a decent fractured winterglass drop for a sorcerer. Just playing in 4 man teams in the most efficient way, those drops may come too fast and too often to feel as an accomplishment. If in less off a hurry solo or two man play can be more fun actually due to worse magic find. 😇 Problem though you often do need those items too much to make your build work. A bit the same as with D3 and where D2 in opposite shone before runewords era, when certain drops were great, but you did not needed them to complete game.
Correct. The loot is still boring. It's mostly vertical progression which becomes boring because the only growth is your character doing 5% more damage. That's the problem with most Arpgs. Grim dawn has been the only game where loot can actually change the way some skills work allowing for a ton of varied builds that used different skills. The constellation system that grim dawn has added even more customization. It was the right mix between simplicity and complexity as opposed to diablo 4 super simple system and PoE over complex system for that sake of being complex
@@ReneMaas-ic3lvno it doesn’t, you know that shako will drop after few runs, the excitement is gone after season 2, but any season I’ve played d2 and something like griffon, soj or high rune drops, even socketing 4os eth base in the cube for a runeword I’m just off the chair screaming.. dopamine is unmatched
@@ReneMaas-ic3lv Shaco is the most bullshit, lazy item I've seen in an ARPG. It's only there to ensure people grind for something that is way overpowered. Now that's a good thing usually, but 1. it's generic. So all builds need it and it's likely better than all other items. Kills build diversity in the head slot. 2. To get one isn't just a fucking chore. I mean, I don't mind grinding Countess for high runes for a full day, but you can do that for weeks on Duriel (I guess Andariel too now? Not sure because fuck this game) without getting it and no way to work up to it. It's just spend an hour here grinding for a chance to kill a boss for a miniscule chance to get a generic helm that makes all other helms in the game useless. Fuck the Shako. It was better in d2.
@tehf00n to be fair, that has been the formula in all diablo games. Especially the second coming of christ, d2. People always talk about how d2 is the best game, but it has no endgame and literally all the good drops have a chance to drop equal to winning the lottery. Even worse is that if you are lucky enough to get the good drops, they're useless because all you can do is start a new game plus which makes that drop you worked hundreds of hours to get too weak for what you're doing. But we apparently want d4 to be more like that... 😂 And don't forget that if you're playing the remastered d2 there's a chance you'll lose those good drops because of memory limit bugs. I recently went back to d2 remastered and found that my sorcerer and barb both had multiple mythics just gone. Literal hundreds of hours gone because of a stupid bug dealing with memory space. Made me instantly delete the game and not want to ever go back.

honestly, its a hard pass to buy the expansion for me, the new character/area doesnt make me want to give blizzard more money than i have already, ill wait till its on sale or something, atm, dont care, game is missing so much content for the endgame.... why pay them for failing to live up to their promises.
Bro D3 is fucking clean. Scratches the Diablo itch so hard. And you can pause dungeons! And smoke weed or whatever haha. Fuck this expansion
I left after first season for until coming back for season 5. I had a great time with five and really enjoyed the end game. Put in 180 hours on my Sorc for 1 season. Idk about you, but 150-200 hours is worth 40$ to me.

Same, I was kinda excited to try it out until I realized I need to buy it. 110€ is too much for a game that maybe now reached playable status.
hard disagree. put over 100 maybe even 200 hours into diablo 4 pre expansion.

Thought the whole point of an arpg was to make the most op character to pretty much just smash everything possible by yourself
Dude and I got so annoyed when they would one hit the world bosses. Wtf is the point. Let me fight him alone or couch co-op or whatever.
Diablo 4 was the last Blizzard title i bought fully blind. I'll wait this time to watch and follow content creators like raxx.
When the paid sponsorship goes off you can wait and see.
That's where im at. I still feel like buying on launch was a bad move on my part. No update has changed that opinion yet.
@@AlexAlex-od7fjIf you don't understand how the game works you follow templates for builds. Also, there are a number of cheap ways to refund passive points to redo your build. Sounds like you haven't ever played PoE, or perhaps haven't played for years. If you have, then you are just bad at understanding the game.
@@RudeDude69 You can see the cracks in poe after hundreds if not thousands of hours in. You see the issues with diablo during levelling and it only gets worse.
A lot of the negative things you listed about launch just made me think "but that's still broken!" We'd be complaining now if these things hadn't been been even worse at launch.
so many bugged " builds " or interactions , never seen game in such state.. and ppl cry when something get fixed.. then you do not follow broken build and you can not finish content because it is built around bugged builds, worst dev team ever such a trash

Stash space is a complete non-factor these days man. If you are hording that many items at this point, it's a you problem. The codex change completely solved the stash issue.
@yGKeKe yeah this be facts for sure, I made 5 characters last season 1 tab for each characters BiS items and a tab for miscellaneous
I paid for a "full game" for 90 usd with early access etc. And a minimum of 5 seasonal content throughout the year. They gave me like 2 seasons of content and some sort of finished game at the end, but "the end-game" is in the xpac. Why woud i paid more when they still owe me the basic game w endgame in it?
exactly
When did they say 5 seasons in a year?
Exactly that and one thing most content creators for Diablo are currently not mentioning is the fact that Blizzard has already pretty much confirmed that more expansions will follow (For sure with the same pricing). So this one is only the beginning.
They are begging for more money before fixing the base game and bringing it up to par.
That’s the funny part, they don’t owe you anything.

Your comment about runewords in comparison to D2 is spot on! I hope Blizzard will listen!
Its crazy that over a year later you STILL cant just straight out recommend Diablo 4 to anyone besides already existing players/fans.
I mean, are they incapable of adapting or learning.... sjeez..
Pretty sure there're other ways to get the unbrick scroll
They announced youll get the scrolls with the season journey and has a small chance to drop in overworld albeit the chance to get them will probably be terrible but, it isn't locked behind a paywall since they will be available base game. I do agree with runewords being meh though it's true.
SAME. Burned out with group play from various mmo's like neverwinter. DONE with all that. Blizzard can keep it.
Someone thinks they could do better than the OG devs of D1 and D2 and failed, repeatedly.
Shell out for some rare and expensive runes
Another interesting idea would be using runes to augment stats on gear in a better way as well.
Enjoy the game whoever does, really enjoy it, it is a really pretty game I guess.

come a long way? It regressed to fuck when they released it with no end game. It's not been getting anywhere but back to the wanky position it is now, which is worse than D3 before it's expansion (ok maybe not but you get my point). For this game to come a long way it needs to at least match Diablo 3 first. Then Diablo 2. Then maybe they come a long way to make a better game. But you are right, Path of Exile is the future.

Fanboys need three strikes, they will stop buying after 3rd expansion probably
Go try throne and liberty if you want fun without hit to pocket
How are they going back on Loot Reborn?

Your reviews are by far the most fair I've come across. Your style is a perfect balance of "what's good, what's bad, what needs improvement," and the way you lay it out is excellent.
Keep up the good work!
One of the biggest gripes I have about the game is the dungeons and the bosses. It seems to me that there are like 3-4 templates with little to no variations. And the bosses seems just too dull and pointless. Also, I get bored easily with the leveling, so my wish is that there would be more endgame activities. I don't really like that most, if not all, changes are to make the game easier. I really don't understand that.

Raxx thank you for all the hard work and great info. I'm a "No" on the expansion, primarily because I had a very difficult time in the PTR. I will watch your stream playing the expansion and see how it goes. Perhaps you will change my mind.

Every other build has been Decrepify, Blood Mist, Corpse Tendrils (Grasping Veins) Bone Storm (+Shielding Storm) + Corpse Explosion/Consumption engine for a whole year now.
@@subzero308 Idk why my detailed response was seemingly deleted, but yes, Minion Necro looks pretty good.

Granted, i always played solo selffound. dunno if people actually traded.. or even how, pretty sure you didnt have a trade prompt
And i have no idea what content got added after i left, so maybe later stuff actually required it
But yea the act 2 merc was too good...
@@draftingish4833 There's been multiple arpgs and mods now that have done runewords better. D4 could easily make them work they just don't want to.

Will it be possible, if we both start a new character to play the new campaign as spiritborns as soon as the expansion drops or does she have to finish the base game campaign first or do we even both have to finish the base campaign first. Maybe you can help me out with this one! Cheers!
Blizzard should give steep discounts to those who bought the game at launch. Especially anyone who bought a hire tier edition
Finally a word from Papa Smurf our main man Rax! thank you for all the awesome content!
No SSF mode for the Raids may be the last straw, and why can't Bliz work in a "No Change" button for master working like how rerolling a stat works.
We don't want solo raids just to cater to you!
Raids suck. I don't want to come back from work and then fail a raid for 2-3 hours because people can't do a simple mechanic or someone is constantly leaving. It's Destiny 2 raiding all over again.
@@gundamnit3594 then do other content.
Raids won’t be 3 hours either
do you want everything handed to you jesus stop crying, as for ssf mode there's a good reason they don't have one you can't have many mechanics with solo only and it adds in content not everyone has to do calm the fuck down, its not mandatory there's nothing god tier its cosmetics, the scroll drops everywhere and hordes will be great for them the citadel is clearly for the more hardcore playerbase, not for the casuals.
Not every damn thing has to cater to you casual players you destory games just as much as the super hardcore players do or more often actually.
If whatever unique or essential rewards from the raids can be achievable via other content, then OK.
Not interested in purchasing at retail price. I’ll wait for a sale.
I already have been locked in whatever Diablo 4 releases since launch, but appreciate the video Raxx! :D
I hate when people get to the game early and spoil everything for us non-Streamers and then it takes the fun out of it.
this might come as a surprise ! just don't watch any content if you are scared of spoilers
I don’t know about anyone else, but this expansion doesn’t feel worth $40 at all.
It doesn’t even feel on the same level as Reaper of Souls, and that is really disappointing as D4 was possibly my most anticipated game of all time 💔
Definitely appreciate the honest content rax 👍
Between the citadel and the runewards i was looking forward to i wont be wasting my time.
If they want to attempt mmo tactics like the citadel they can do that but walling those scrolls behind a paywall and group content is a big "fuck you" to solo players and ive had quite enough of that type of content in mmo's. Theres a reason i play arpg's.
Honestly, the Runewords system is the biggest let-down of all of the announcements for the expansion
Any rendition these wackos woulda come up with was always gonna be trash.
It's pretty insulting that they are even calling them rune words
I mean, the game is good now, not great, but it’s good. It just sucks that it took this long and an additional 40 bucks on top of the initial game price.
I bought the expansion so I can play and watch more Rax vids.
Based
The run down of why D2 runewords are so cool really highlights how fun the experience of leveling up your character and just *playing through the game* is in D2 and I never felt that in my short time with D4
It's a cosmetic only dungeon dude, get over yourself.
@@yGKeKedoesn't seem like you paid attention, it's not cosmetic only
That chipotle analysis was spot on, love your work Raxx.
$40 unless you live in Australia, here it works out to to be $70, not going to pay that amount for it.
Base game and xpac is worth at MOST 15$ each, everything else is overpaying
Diablo 3 mercs were just fine, particularly the enchantress. She has some powerful aoe cc. As long as you approached the mercs with the understanding that they deal zero damage, and just use them for utility, they were important. Except Lyndon. There was little way to make him useful, but he had the most entertaining lines.
So much about Diablo 3 is a ton better IMO. The ability to scale the difficulty at all times; the ability to pause dungeons in single player; and tons of the characters were fun and clean. I decided to not buy this expansion and play d3 when I get the itch
The correct answer is no, you shouldn't.
Another thing I would add in the QOL was the fact that there were no seasonal leaderboards. Leaderboards gave a competitive end-game purpose in D3 when running greater rifts for example
I think I'll just wait poe2
I know you said we can continue to do the seasons even without the expansion; but how does the season journey interact with players who don't own the expansion? Will there be new seasonal journey goal options that expansion-less players can't do?
I hate the raids, Diablo should never require mp. I want to play Diablo not wow
@@subzero308 go play wow
@@bauman921and you can go play poe
@a_vida_è_boa everbody already back on poe and stopped playing D4.
D4 sucks ass
Few content creators can get to that type of "fame" and still be a down to earth person (TotalBiscuit, Day[9], Reckful]) and you, Rax, are in the top ranks. Thank you for all the content, you rock man. I still have the full stream where you said good night to me lol such a small thing but it was so cool even if it is a little silly.
my biggest problem with d4 and most games these days is... ITEMS
wanna know the best feeling in the world (of warcraft)? finally getting the "deathbringer's will" trinket, or the dragonwrath staff with double spells. one single item and BOOM, your dps increases 20-30%
...something to farm, something to focus on, an item so powerful that when you get it and try it for the first time you think "YES! it was worth all the effort!"
when everything is balanced, everything is mid, everything is MEH... that is blizzard's biggest failure, that's why runewords are gonna dissapoint everyone, and why people think "do i farm 5 hours for a 2% dps increase? nah, no thanks"
Problem though you often do need those items too much to make your build work.
And don't forget that if you're playing the remastered d2 there's a chance you'll lose those good drops because of memory limit bugs. I recently went back to d2 remastered and found that my sorcerer and barb both had multiple mythics just gone. Literal hundreds of hours gone because of a stupid bug dealing with memory space. Made me instantly delete the game and not want to ever go back.
