Machine Head - Darkness Within - lyrics

- Here in this darkess that I lay,
Depression heavy in it's weigh,
And how my body aches to leave,
To sing it's final eulogy.
My sons I love you evermore,
And though the road beckons once more,
I see the damage that I've done,
And search for redemption.
But I am just a broken man,
Whose soul cries out to understand,
How the madness shatters me,
Upon the stage on bended knee,
I scream aloud at skies above,
That answer mute bereft in love,
I struggle not to fall from grace,
I sing the hyms of my disgrace.
We build Cathedrals to our pain,
Establish monuments to attain,
Freedom from all of the scars and the sins,
Lest we drown in the darkness within.
Mysteries forgotten chords,
I strum in vain to please the lord,
But he has never answered me,
And faith has waned eternaly.
In empty men who pass along,
The woes of all religions wrong,
Now the shadowed veil it falls,
Heed the Clarion call.
So pray to music,
Build a shrine,
Worship in these desperate times
Fill your heart with every note,
Cherish it and cast afloat.
Cause God is in these clef and tone,
Salvation is found alone,
Haunted by it's melody,
Music, it will set you free.
(Let it set you free)
We build Cathedrals to our pain,
Establish monuments to attain,
Freedom from all of the scars and the sins,
Lest we drown in the darkness within.
MUSIC MY SAVIOR,
SAVE ME,
MUSIC MY SAVIOR,
SAVE ME,
MUSIC MY SAVIOR,
SAVE ME,
MUSIC MY SAVIOR,
SAVE ME
We build Cathedrals to our pain,
Establish monuments to attain,
Freedom from all of the scars and the sins,
Lest we drown in the darkness within.
We build Cathedrals to our pain,
Establish monuments to attain,
Freedom from all of the scars and the sins,
Lest we drown in the darkness within. - เพลง
I love how at 1:37 the music seemed to catch fire instead of just exploding into mayhem like I was expecting. Really does it for me. (This comment makes sense in my head)
Perfect comment!
That moment is the foundation of the entire song
Such a fucking awesome song
A solid comparison. The outro would be that fire burning out.
couldnt agree more man :) compared to normal MachineHead songs etc this its PERFECT escalation
this is a really good cry song, this was one of the only songs helping keep my dad alive, eventually he lost his battle to depression, but this song will forever remind me of him ❤
This is music.
Good song when you're having a very depressing, low energy type of a day.
so like every day then.. sounds good, very good
+Deku same man same
Imperium gets me going in the morning
My girl just broke up with me and I can confirm this is very true
ahah exactly :)

!
Goosebumps.
I love how this song is screaming back to me when I’m screaming inside.
It helps me to heal from the pain.
I love this song so much... I discovered it so late, but I'm a headcase now!
My god, this song made me cry and gave me an eargasm.
we built cathedrals to our pain... established monuments to attain... freedom from all of the scars and the sins... lest we drown in the darkness within...
Says a lot with just four lines of lyrics. Music is amazing makes you think and describes life in multiple ways.
Is it past tense... i always thought it was "build" and "establish" as in we're still doing this shit
@@beardykins3073 It is present tense
I'm getting "Music my savior, save me" on my arm this summer
My friend gave me this album as a gift (when we were younger we used to exchange metal albums). I listened to the entire thing with my girlfriend on a road trip.. Still one of my all time favorite albums and this song IS my favorite.
This has got to be my new favorite song, Im glad my friend showed me Machine Head a few years back.
Those fucking DRUMS!!!
Totally agree!! This Dave McLain is a fucking genious.
i wish the intro wasnt quite so random.
Joko515 what do you mean random???
By all the demons of hell... One of the greatest eargasm of my life
By the *what?*
Every song from this album gives me goosebumps. I need to buy this!
This is the song I was listening to when I got a phone call from my dad who told me my mom had passed.
+Deon Wallace it's sad
+Deon Wallace That's tough, buddy! Here: let me give you a virtual hug!
+rock00dom Thanks :)
Deon Wallace :)
+Deon Wallace : sorry buddy..may her soul rest in heaven
I've been to Machine Head concert few months back. Before they played this song Robb made a speech about how where they grew up they didn't have religion. All they had to help them through their tough times, set them on the right path and even believe in is MUSIC. So they actually take music as their religion, so to speak. Though, you might find it odd that they also have a song named Be Still and Know on the album but that's just because it was Phil's deceased grandmother's favorite passage.
That solo!
Nothing better than a song about love for music.
One of my favorite songs! Such a strong build up. Great lyrics.
I keep discovering bands from my childhood now in 2020, I´m happy about it.
These songs help to make you feel connected when you're down and out...it's a double edged sword though, cause sometimes when you're so depressed it just adds fuel to the fire...nevertheless, a beautiful piece of art. Much respect 🙏 🤘
Always one of my fav song, since my studies, when I was a little metalhead, perfect song
This Record was great on it's first listening. But a lot of fans had this band held with huge expectations after the release of the blackening. And understandably so. This Record was very impressive on its first playthrough. But many fans had to let it grow on them over the years 2 really appreciate the beauty of this record. In a way it's like Slayer when they release Raining Blood. And then South of Heaven came out with the follow-up and was not what people were quite expecting after listening to Reign in Blood. It was a little bit criminally underrated. But as the years went on, it definitely stood as high as its predecessor. Same goes with this record. Seven magnificent songs. I love records that take a little bit of time to fully appreciate. Cuz they turn out to be some of the best records you can possibly ever appreciate.
I listen to this song a regular basis. I've been in my darkest days struggling with addiction. It's such a well written and soulful song it resonates with my entire being. Being sober and battling addiction depression and horrible anxiety it clears my mind on a spiritual level
Sposati almeno 6 in compagnia nel buio ..
Most applicable song to my life and how I feel most days
"MUSIC MY SAVIOR!".. that lyric....
This is what i call real music
Most gripping, uplifting, relatable and thrilling music produced by machine head
I'm thinking of getting 'Pray to music, build a shrine, worship in these desperate times' and/or 'Music it will set you free' tattooed. Simply because this song is amazing and I agree completely with the words.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS TUNE!!!!!! It is so very true, we build our issues up to a point that we literally live beneath them as we would a religion. It becomes the norm and dictates our lives to the point we are abiding by a set of unwritten rules. Rules we cannot change. Rules that we "HAVE" to live by, hindering any prospect of advancement through fear of change. Change that could potentially alter our own perception, ultimately leading us to a better place. This is why I love music, it heightens our perception, and gives us perspective in a way that can only be obtained through art. Without it we would be lost to ourselves forever. Lost and unfounded.
Dude that was deep....
this is quite possibly the best lyrics ive ever heard!!
MUSIC IS MY SAVIOR indeed.

Machine Head, had I heard of this band before this year (2017), situations would be different for me.

you guys every get fucked up and just close your eyes and listen to this song over and over??? i do it every night....
Did hear them on 3rd of June at Rock Im Park. And did not know this song before. But when listening it touched me instantly and I wanted to hear it as soon as possible in the clear version on youtube. Next day this song took be directly back in time to the gig. In the meantime I've heard all of Locust again. And now after reading the lyrics, I'm still so impressed about the band and this album. Pure genius! I'm glad that there are musicians, that make others look so un-fucking-believable naive.
Great song. Great message.

Classic Phil Demmel solo. Very simple yet powerful!

Very powerful. So much emotion.
