I am almost positive that that little wrench money clip is actually a tie clip. The "Hand" is protection from the Evil Eye called a Hamsa, popular in North Africa and Middle East. Thanks for the fun! 👋
I love how any time Melissa gives a piece of Jewelry a second look Alex asks her if she likes it and might want to keep it. Not that she could not just keep any piece she wanted to have anyway, but it is sweet that he asks her.
I love these box openings, it's so exciting to see what treasures you find! Years ago I went to antique shows and would buy a bag of old jewelry. I would spend hours looking at every piece and would end up with black hands but I would have so much fun looking through and cleaning all the nice finds. 🥰🥰🥰
I noticed one of the items was Sarah Coventry. That jewelry was popular in the 1960s and 1070s in the US. I believe you could only order from an individual (kind of like Tupperware or Avon). Very good quality costume jewelry.
Yes, I remember my Mom having a Sarah Coventry Parting in the early 60s. It was just like Tupperware in that one friend would have a party and then convince her best friends to 'book a party'. At the end of the day, the entire group of friends had ended up going to numerous parties and buying more than they wanted or needed...because it was for a friend. It would eventually just become too much and a few feelings would be hurt. It would start all over again with Tupperware and then Stanley... LOLOLOL
Alex "Melissa, I'll video you going through this suitcase full of jewelry." Also Alex... "Oooh... Look! A bag with a watch in it!" 🤣 I would be the same way. So eager to see all the Goodies!
The pearl beads are probably covering over opal glass, if they’re from the fifties or sixties( or earlier) . The ring with the amber colored stone is maybe topaz, my birthstone. The hand is called a Hamsa hand or Hand of Fatima; it’s good luck. Rhinestones are really collectible. The baby spoons are so sweet!
could still be topaz , topaz can be light yellow all the way to smokey brown, hard to tell with out a jeweler looking at it though, if it's good quality costume it could be citrine
@@tammyschenk7877 I thought topaz also. Topaz can be light brownish yellow. My Grandfather had a real onyx ring with topaz on either side and they were similar in color to the stone in the ring on this video.
I never hesitate to buy jewelry with shorter chain because I can add extender chain. I often buy jewelry from estate sales if the findings or spacer beads, stone beads etc are in good shape or unusual. I take it home clean and disassemble it and reuse the pieces in jewelry I make. Hi from Belgium! This suitcase was full of mid-century European kind of jewelry. The Venise pendant earrings may be made with venetian glass, worth checking! The double bohemian crystal necklace with the earrings reminds me of one I Inherited from my grandma ( from the 50's) You found a fatima hand, it is a Middle-East protection symbol!

Costume jewelry all the way up to the 80s and 90s is selling really well right now. The good costume jewelry. Sarah Coventry is one of the ones to watch for when you go to a sale
I remember my cousin selling that, the rage was to have some of those pieces. There was a back chain necklace that everyone wanted you saw it in magazines and on shows on tv. It drapped down your back and could be worn a couple of ways. Earrings with L & R on the back. I remember seeing them in late 70's. My cousin was 10-15 yrs. older then me so I adored everything about her back then. Its so funny what we remember. LOL
I love these unboxing videos for jewelry. Lots of good stuff to see, you will for sure get your money back, even selling the suitcase and green jewelry box. Can't wait for the next one.
Just a hint so you don't miss anything. Get a 10x loupe and use it everywhere on every piece. Also, just because it is in a box, certainly does not mean it came in that box originally. Real gold Necklaces can be added to costume pendants (and vice versa), so check them separately of one another. Buy a presidium gem tester for your gemstones. Your "amber" stone is most likely a citrene or could be a golden topaz in an 18k setting. So, get a gold and silver test kit. Easy to learn the marks for gold and silver. Hope this helps you find all the gold and silver!
If I was Melissa, I would set some of my favorite pieces back just to wear them once or twice and then give them back to Alex for a sale. It would be like a forever rotating jewelry collection!
The suitcase alone is treasure. I enjoyed looking with y'all. Vintage Costume jewelry is a Jackpot. Very sought after. especially the SPARKLY pieces. Bling is always in style. The Mother's Ring made me Sad. My Momma passed last August. She was a simple jewelry wearer. Her wedding ring and Mother's ring was something she treasured. We would never let that out of the Family.
you are living my dream of looking through things for a living. i love looking through boxes and finding cool little trinkets, especially metal ones because i love feeling the weight of it in my hand. it's a sensory thing. but on top of that it's stimulating because i love to just search things and explore, and looking through random drawers is a great way of doing that!
I think the small gold leaf is a gold-dipped Maile leaf from Hawai'i. Maile is an endemic climbing vine with fragrant leaves that is used for high status lei. In the 80s and 90s they were dipped in gold to create necklaces and earings. Not of huge value, but nostalgic. The pair of drop earings you thought might be bone carved into rose blossoms might also be from Hawai'i as they resemble a style of jewelry made in the Islands carved or molded to resemble a jasmine blossom that was called Pikake, in honor of Crown Princess Ka'iulani. The Princess, who loved a particular variety of jasmine, kept pet peacocks at Ainahau, her Waikiki estate, so, in Hawai'i the flower was named Pikake in memory of the Princess of the Peacocks. Not terribly confident in my IDs as it was a quick look.
U are 100% correct, bcuz I own one. I just couldn't remember where I got it until I read your comment! 😂 My father took my sister and I on a 7 country/2 week adventure thru Asia. Our last stop was a 2 day stopover in Hawaii, at which point we were told we would be flying home alone while they stayed in Hawaii! (we were 18 and 20 and already living on our own). My Dad had decided to fly his 2 sisters out to meet him and his new wife in Hawaii, where they would get to spend an additional week, and then all come home together. My aunts had never really been too far from the small MO town we all came from. Both were very hard working single moms by then, and neither had money for such exotic travel. When he came home he bought each of them a new car as well. I found out later that my Dad had been diagnosed w/Prostate Cancer and thought he was dying. Thank God he survived and lasted another 35 years! 💝 Thanks for reminding me where my gold leaf came from, as well as remembering that beautiful time w/my Daddy and Aunts who have all now passed on to bigger things. 🙏🏽 ✌🏼
@@Lucinda_Jackson Thank u so much.🙌 It was a wonderful and exciting time and something I'll never forget! My father went on to see 230 countries before he passed 5 years ago. He lived an amazing life and was my best friend.💝 My whole family has passed now so the memories are all I have. This was a nice one. 🎁💕✌🏼
Alex, the necklace in the beginning, that you thought was abalone, is actually mother of pearl. Mother of pearl is white, while abalone has blues, teals, aqua, and purples. The fountain pen nibs may be gold, as many of the pens were back then. I have two vintage Sheaffer fountain pens with gold nibs. The earrings from Venezia may be Austrian crystal and the faceted metal pieces at the top of the earrings are marcasites which are fashioned from pyrite. These could be very high end earrings especially if the crystals in them are vintage Swarovski. The AB crystal necklaces, bracelets, and earrings go for a pretty penny. The pin with the petit point that you referred to as a hat pin is a stick pin usually worn on the lapel of a coat or woman's suit jacket. The pin originally came with small stopper on the end to prevent it from falling out of the fabric. The Sherman set is stunning. Weiss and Lisner are also high end brands when it comes to older, mid-century pieces. 💖🌹💍💎
Sara Coventry is a 50's and 60's costume jewelry. They used to do home parties kinda like Tupperware. The hostess would set all the pieces on a table and guests would pick out and order pieces. I have quite a few pieces from when my Mom use to attend parties. We even had one at our house. They still look like new and are very collectible.
They were still going strong in the 70s. I remember working with a girl right around 1980 and she had a pair of SC earrings that she bragged about and was heartbroken when she lost one.
I liked the way this was handled with the help and knowledge of Melissa too. You just need to invest in another camera so you can have camera in hand but also another camera on a tripod from another angle and also for when you need two hands to open or handle something. It was good to have Melissa there this time, so you could film her handling and checking items and also discuss them. As you'll be using social media more to sell, it would be good to have two cameras at an unboxing like this and then edit it together.
Oooh, I love the heart locket! And the butterfly. Neither look particularly valuable but they're pretty. This gave me all the nostalgia feels, as it looks like my mom's jewelry boxes.
May I just say how well your looking it must be 'less stress' the jewellery is very interesting...amazing how stuff from that era is fashionable now...
Pretty cool stuff. A little too fast for me my eyes were looking at stuff I had hoped you might have picked up to show but I know it's gotta go fast. I hope to catch a sale and maybe see some of your other videos. Loved it all.
@@janeysiegrist5061 yup! I’ve always wanted a ring like hers. She left it to me in her will, but her son wanted it. How could I tell her son, “Uh, nope. Hand it over.” She wore it all the time unless she had it at a jeweler’s being repaired. So when Hans asked me if he could keep his mom’s ring for his daughter I just hugged him and said, “With my love added with your mom’s. Yes. Please give it to her!” We were best friends all through school - from 1st grade all through high school and even after. She’s been gone 10 years now and I still catch myself thinking in need to call her. Sigh. Getting old totally sucks.
That was fun to pick through jewelry. Good thing Melissa helped with her knowledge and loop. The only piece I cared for was the Sherman Brooche and earrings that matched. Thanks Alex

Can’t tell for sure watching but; I used to bring in semi precious & Swarovski crystals for jewellery findings in my previous job. -Red bead stand could be coral/glass. -The next were Agate beads/ semi precious -Fresh water pearls -green circle on the 10k chain I would bet to be green aventurine ……..or a green jasper. I doubt jasper.
My grandmother never bought real jewelry even though they could afford it because my grandfather had a job as a postman. They lived through the depression and WW2 with 7 kids. So the woman who frugal, she liked pretty things but knew hard times could happen any time, so she just had costume jewelry.
There is a lone gold earring that looks like the one my ,other lost small pierced with a wee pearl in the middle shaped like a. Crest. Oh it made my heart jump.
hi Alex & Melisa - the "hand" neck lace does indeed mean something good - its the Hamsa Hand, it banishes evil and negative energy and in return attracts happiest, luck and good fortune xx
That was fun! Since I make and sell jewelry, I got what was left of my grandmother's huge jewelry collection after she passed. She had an entire 9 drawer dresser plus several jewelry boxes full of mostly costume jewelry. I did find quite a bit of sterling silver and some real gold. I loved researching the antique and vintage jewelry she had. Thanks for the video!
Now that was fun. I took a whole bunch of jewelry to our local Filles D’Isabelle store and it was fun to see them going through it. It’s a similar to a rebuilt recycle store.
This reminds me of the box I brought home from my MIL after she passed. Little trinkets with lots of memories and little value. So fun to ponder where they have been in their lifetime.
That jade looks like some different types of BC jade I've seen. See if it passes light with a bright flash light. If so it probably is real jade. You can also use a hardness tester on it but be careful you risk a scratch if it is real.
I love costume jewelry. After looking very well throughout this suitcase, u may find more really nice gold or silver items. It’s a shame that shipping from Canada is so expensive. I bought a very small brooch from one of Betty Joan’s items. It was 2 tiny bells. It cost more for shipping than the what I paid for the item. She was an amazing woman. I just wanted something to remember her by. Congratulations on y’all’s new adventures, I wish you Melissa & all 3 kids the very best. I first found your TH-cam channel when u first started cleaning out Betty Joan’s home. I was hooked. Watched every episode & continued to watch all you & the family & friends did. Sarah Coventry jewelry was popular in the 60s and 70s and was given as prizes on game shows and sold at parties like Tupperware. As far as I know, it was fairly decent quality.
In watching both of you interacting with each other, Alex's eyes look warm and happy. I know in my heart the decision you made on the store was the best one. My mom, long ago, sold Sarah Coventry. Everyone got jewelry for Christmas and birthdays, lol. What a fun time seeing all the oldie but goodies, lol 😊💍💎
The hand is called a Hamsa its to bless you and keep evil eye away. Also the 18k yellow stone with the diamonds on each side looks like a Golden Beryl or Citrine either way get checked out cause if its golden Beryl it's worth a Ka- Ching. I collect gems, designer costume jewelry so all should be check out . Even the designer boxes are sort out for trust me. What you think is plastic if it has a name imprinted should always be checked out. The brooches and the old clip on earrings are making a huge interest to people collecting vintage. Looked like fun I enjoyed watching. 👍😊💍💍 PS Glass Pearl's only Jackie Kennedy would wear and some are worth a pretty penny . The glass Pearl's are always looked for trust me. Also the biggest thing now is old vintage perfume bottles and cookie jars .
I didn’t know that about Swarovski. I had noticed that it wasn’t a “thing” any more, but just chalked it up to having gone out of fashion and that it would be back.
Sarah Coventry was party sales during 60s-80s, like Tupperware. Her jewelry was very popular and well made. Unfortunately at the moment it’s not very valuable, but still treasured by collectors. Very pretty ring. In fact I’m in love with most of the jewelry, but like Melissa I’m crazy for the Sherman…WOW thats beautiful!!
When we bought my mom's, it was called a family ring. I think we bought it in the 80's, if I remember correctly. My mom bought me one called a daughter's pride ring. My big birthstone was in the center, with my parent's smaller stones on either side.

**check under the cardboard inserts** in the jewelry store boxes. Sometime things get stuck/ stored in layers for security.
Yes do, I often stick my mixers or like pieces under the upper display felt. If only to consolidate
If I was Melissa, I would set some of my favorite pieces back just to wear them once or twice and then give them back to Alex for a sale. It would be like a forever rotating jewelry collection!
Exactly what I do!
You never know what you’ll find in a box. Nice box of jewelry.
Thanks for sharing jewelry find ♥️
you are living my dream of looking through things for a living. i love looking through boxes and finding cool little trinkets, especially metal ones because i love feeling the weight of it in my hand. it's a sensory thing. but on top of that it's stimulating because i love to just search things and explore, and looking through random drawers is a great way of doing that!
The Princess, who loved a particular variety of jasmine, kept pet peacocks at Ainahau, her Waikiki estate,
so, in Hawai'i the flower was named Pikake in memory of the Princess of the Peacocks. Not terribly confident in my IDs as it was a quick look.
I have a gold dipped oak leaf that I got back in the 90's. It was a thing for a hot minute. Lol.

What a wonderful trip! And such fun and touching memories! 🥰 Your family sounds just lovely!

Love the estate jewelry unboxings. My favorites pieces are the Christmas tree brooch, the rosary and the baby spoons. Thank you for sharing this!
Fun video. Don't forget to check in all the pockets of that suitcase!
Sara Coventry was a line of costume jewelry that was sold at home parties kind of like a Tupperware party.
That was fun! I love the green jewelry box. The ring with the large stone was interesting, too. And baby rings in the tiny boxes. Good haul.
Nice treasure! I like that you got something for the ladies!
That suitcase is pretty sweet and probably worth a pretty penny too.
I knew Alex would not be able to keep his hands out of the jewelry! So much for Melissa getting her chance to take the lead!
That suitcase is beautiful ! Looks like it never left the house
Oooh that's a really nice Sheaffer Snorkel from the looks of it with the box. Very nice find.
Very awesome to see yu Alex and Melissa doing this very cool
Some lovely pieces,
May I just say how well your looking it must be 'less stress' the jewellery is very interesting...amazing how stuff from that era is fashionable now...
at 9.25; the little metallic looking things; marquisites!
I really enjoyed watching you two with the jewelry! Learned some new stuff!!! Have a Blessed Easter!!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
Pretty cool stuff. A little too fast for me my eyes were looking at stuff I had hoped you might have picked up to show but I know it's gotta go fast. I hope to catch a sale and maybe see some of your other videos. Loved it all.
The yellow colored stone is topaz. I have a friend who had that exact ring in the 60’s.
Yes! And it’s beautiful!
November birthstone
Every time I see a Schaeffer pen I think of my grandpa..🥰
Topez is really valuable now, most of the mines are gone now, and the one country that it can be sourced from does not allow them to be exported.
That was fun to pick through jewelry. Good thing Melissa helped with her knowledge and loop. The only piece I cared for was the Sherman Brooche and earrings that matched. Thanks Alex
Hey Alex, don’t forget Melissa should have First Dibs. Lots of lovely items.
Hope it all does well at Auction ❤️
You surpassed your investment almost immediately!
AWW, MADE ME SAD THAT THE FAMILY DIDN'T KEEP THE FAMILY RING & BABY SILVERWARE BUT I KNOW WHEN YOU'RE CLEANING OUT AN ESTATE YOU CAN'T KEEP EVERYTHING. GREAT FIND!
and sometimes there is just no more family to pass things on to
@@sherilynl4038 True!! ):
Oh! My! Score! Love watching you kids going through this trunk! Lovely
Good one, Melissa...lol. loved that comment..."Well, obviously since we are making this video."
Deserved more accolades.
I'll be chuckling in my sleep over that one.
Of course you will make your money back and just the excitement of opening the case with your wife is priceless 😉
My grandmother had the same crystal necklace and earring set as the set you found right near the end. Lovely finds!
Years ago I was a fan of Cody Creelman, Cow Vet. He changed course and started a regular veterinarian office. Most of us left. I miss him. I’m hoping that your new venture does really, really well, and I’ll check in now and again. I’ll miss you and the delightful crew of regulars! xxxooo
Can’t tell for sure watching but; I used to bring in semi precious & Swarovski crystals for jewellery findings in my previous job.
-Red bead stand could be coral/glass.
-The next were Agate beads/ semi precious
-Fresh water pearls
-green circle on the 10k chain I would bet to be green aventurine ……..or a green jasper. I doubt jasper.
Nice little treasure trove. I love going through old jewellery.
Sarah Coventry was a jewelry brand that was sold at home parties,I remember it being quite expensive for costume.
hi Alex & Melisa - the "hand" neck lace does indeed mean something good - its the Hamsa Hand, it banishes evil and negative energy and in return attracts happiest, luck and good fortune xx
I bet your grandma is happy that you got the pieces. Sounds like you were/are kindred spirits, both appreciating jewelry.
Would have liked to see Melissa do it on her own.
That’s so special. Wow. 💎
Nice suitcase, too!
This was so much fun! I am so happy Melissa was there, even got a peek at Chewy. I love that pink jewelry box, will have to check the auction. 😊
Now that was fun. I took a whole bunch of jewelry to our local Filles D’Isabelle store and it was fun to see them going through it. It’s a similar to a rebuilt recycle store.
The suitcase appears to be in excellent shape. It’s beautiful by itself.
@replicanna Yes, I saw that flash, too! it's just about visible around 17:59
I also went back and watched the Artist home clean out. Now I can’t wait to see y’all new home finished!! I’m so happy for all of you.. Spending time with family means everything..Best wishes!
I think that possibly jade disc had an Asian character etched on it. It seemed to reflect in the light.
I noticed that too.
Yes, I saw it, too!
That was fun! I liked the snap on Money clip
“It’s more fun to do things when your spouse is involved”
Life goals
You got some lovely jewellery items in that case well done and thanks for sharing 🧡
The hand is a Hasma hand. It means unity and protection.
I really like all the vintage presentation boxes that some of the jewelry came in. Great finds!
I think that snap-on piece is a tie clip, not a money clip. Great find!!
Swarovski has stopped making beads now. Those may be worth more than you think. The first clear necklace looked like Swarovski too
I didn’t know that about Swarovski. I had noticed that it wasn’t a “thing” any more, but just chalked it up to having gone out of fashion and that it would be back.
10k ring with 4 or five stones looks like a mother's ring. Birthstones of all the children. Love your channel!
Dream “team-up” treasure hunt episode! ❤️👍
The ring with all the different color stone is a mothers ring. The stones are usually the color of birth stones of the family members.
When we bought my mom's, it was called a family ring. I think we bought it in the 80's, if I remember correctly. My mom bought me one called a daughter's pride ring. My big birthstone was in the center, with my parent's smaller stones on either side.
Thanks for sharing👍👍👍👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀🍀
