Downtown streets open as Mexican Independence Day celebrations continue Sunday in Chicago

- Hundreds of revelers are expected to pack downtown and the Little Village neighborhood on the city's Southwest Side again Sunday, as Mexican Independence Day celebrations continue. Sunday's celebrations come a day after Chicago's Office Emergency Management (OEMC) implemented rolling street closures and restricted access to downtown Saturday night in response to the crowds. The Mexican Independence Day Parade kicks off at noon Sunday in Little Village. The OEMC could restrict traffic in and around that neighborhood at some point Sunday.

Why aren’t they celebrating in Mexico? If they are so proud of Mexico how come they refuse to go back and fight for their country?
Having a country ran by cartels is nothing to be proud of. It’s just another excuse for people to get drunk.
That’s the beauty of this great country you have the freedom to celebrate anything you want and not get punished for it. St Patty’s day has a lot of Irish flags and proud Irish people but no one says a word.
